For those of you who wanted to know up front what "a decent amount of money" means, jump up to 6:12 to hear that it "can cost thousands of dollars". This video is probably meant for someone who intends to conceptualize, produce, market and sell enough minis to cover a cost of thousands of dollars, not so much the guy sitting at home with no artistic ability who wants to create customs for his D&D party for a couple, three hundred bucks. Still, great info and ideas for people who do intend to start a mini company. I'm a low-grade concept artist and on-the-side game system creator/hobbyist who would love to have a line of early stage post-apoc survivor minis with a Division/ Division 2 aesthetic, so if I ever got the time, inclination, initiative and money (which I won't) this would be a good place to start learning about the process.

Remember to pay your artist friend or pay their lunch and thank them if you ask them to make something for you because artists are underrated nowadays. People just assume that artists like to work and draw and therefore don't need anything in return if it's for a friend, family or higher entity. You shouldnt ask for a friend discount either. If they give you, you accept, if they dont give you, dont ask. They will spend time on your thing. Appreciate your artist friend(s)

Boy howdy, that's a nice lookin' mini! I hear what you're saying about over-sexualised mini's and fantasy art; I once spent a miserable evening looking for pictures of female elves that didn't look like strippers. This mini nails it.
@kallisto91664 жыл бұрын
@Nick Smith It's not simply about large breasts or nudity; it's about the preponderance of hyper-sexualised images designed only for their appeal to the male gaze. An image of a busty woman need not be stripperific, nor need nudity be sexist, but way too often it is sexist, male-gazey and not to my taste. I guess you know it when you see it. I'm no prude, nor do I object to people doing whatever they like in art, but the fact remains that I wanted a particular look to depict an NPC; sensible anatomy, practical clothing, etc. and I found it very difficult to find. Had I been looking for elves with boobs the size of your head dressed in gossamer bikinis, now that search would have taken no time at all. As it goes, I'm not a big fan of giant exaggerated swords on mini's either. Make of that what you will. Ultimately I want everybody to be able to get what they want, but I do feel that the exaggerated looks are crowding out the market, both in fantasy art and in miniatures. It's nice that Scott is catering to an under-represented market. YMMV
@banredassaultsuvs3614 жыл бұрын
There is no such thing as "over sexualized". Sexualization and arousal is in the eye of the beholder, and the onus is on the viewer, not the art.
@kallisto91664 жыл бұрын
@Nick Smith I have already made clear that there is no "line": YMMV (Your Milage May Vary). You know it when you see it, etc. I find it perplexing though that when I refer to over-sexualised art, you assume that I'm talking about the art you personally like, when in fact that might not be the case. You talk as though there is no such thing as overtly sexualised fantasy art or sexist mini's, when I think we can agree that such things do exist. Certain vaguely sexist tropes - boobs-and-butt poses, boob armour, chainmail bikinis and so on - are, in my opinion, more than adequately represented in the market whereas realistically proportioned, fully clothed female images and figures are under-represented. There's nothing wrong with sexy. It's just that sexy need not be sexist. The line between the two is, of course, largely subjective and based upon personal taste. We may differ about where that line is drawn and that's okay; again, YMMV. Art is not a zero sum game; just because I want X doesn't mean that you can't want or have Y. I just think that there is less out there in the fantasy genre that caters to my tastes and that Scott's mini is a good example of the sort of thing I would like to see more of. I have no idea what your tastes might be but as far as I am concerned, you are welcome to enjoy them. As it happens, I do generally prefer realistically proportioned mini's of male characters as well. I prefer realistic weapons and armour. They work better with the somewhat grounded tone of my campaign, as do female figures that are actually wearing clothes. Figures in RPGs are primarily intended for simulating combat after all, not sexy fun time. That you interpret my opinions about art as "digs" is disappointing. I did not call you sexist, nor opine that artists whose style I dislike are perverts and I have condemned no-one, so please quit the strawmanning. Not all criticism is condemnation. I feel like you're taking umbrage at nothing.
@natmorse-noland91334 жыл бұрын
Nick, before you waste more digital ink on a defensive reply, maybe try googling "the male gaze". It's not something kallisto made up, but a well-established phenomenon in art and media criticism.

I am really proud of that as they were the first figures to be released from this whole range and they somewhat kickstarted the production of other minis (and I am very glad that they also sell well, I don't get any profit tho, but I just wanted minis and I got them so I am super happy).

This video is great. . . if your aim is to mass produce minis to sell. What if I want to have 2 or 3 miniature made for a diorama that I'm working on?
