That is beautiful Les - excellent build and it runs very smoothly. The only scratch-built Hit and Miss Engine of that miniature size in the world :-)) Thanks for showing this - Paul

Les, I noticed you have your spark plug wire arranged so that you you can see it arc from the wire to plug. Do you think that at all weakens the spark at the spark plug electrode? I like that concept instead of say an LED to let you know when it’s firing. Thanks, Matt

Another question Les... I see a flash between the top of the spark plug and the ignition wire on every revolution. Is that a neon lamp for an indicator or a true spark. Broken wire or timing delay circuit? Thanks Fred
@LeslieProper3 жыл бұрын
Hello Fred, The plug wire is just short of making contact with the spark plug. What you are seeing is the spark jumping to the plug. It may be my imagination, but the engine seems to run better when there is a gap to the spark plug. It also is an indicator that the ignition system is working. I read somewhere that fix for a failing ignition coil was to separate the plug wire a short distance so the spark had to jump to the plug. I don't know if there is science behind this or if it is just nonsense.

Did you build this on Sherline equipment?

Hello Ryan, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Yes, totally built on my Sherline lathe.

Absolutely beautiful work and resulting project Les... Quick question... Does your carb/mixer have any "venturi" feature to it to accelerate the intake charge? I have a Thompson 1/4 scale that I am contemplating modifying the mixer to incorporate a venturi if it will improve the combustion charge. Thanks in advance. My Thompson can be viewed here >> kzbin.info/www/bejne/anPUqYhsd62crM0
