Brilliant simple project. You might get better surface texture if you rounded the edges of the lower bearing. Ideally it should be a continuous radius, but for a shop-made tool, just knocking the sharp edges would give good results.

Thank you Neil Hitze, Yeah I should have made the lower bearing's edges round. I might do an update on this project if I can manage my time.

I absolutely love this project! I make jewelry and it would be a perfect size for that type of use. I'm less familiar with car fabrication, but I've been watching videos to get ideas. For jewelry purposes, I would make a couple of suggestions. Have a variety of easily interchangeable lower ball bearing sizes for curving/doming at different heights. And if possible (I'm not familiar enough with the process to know if this would distort the mechanism) be able to shift the angle where the top and bottom wheels meet - perhaps using some sort of heavy roller ball for the top and a way to rotate the lower wheel around it to generate waves in the forming metal without having to flip it. I'm with the other commenter, I would be interested in knowing your price point for selling this as a consumer product! The Eastwood is around $275 right now and it's actually a little too big for my considerations. I'd love to hear back, whenever you have a chance! Again, awesome work!!

I'm so glad that you liked it. Yes, interchangeable rollers are popular among commercial units, and it's a great idea. I'm not an expert in English wheels, but I never seen one with an adjustable angle. I guess the operator just adjusts the sheet's angle with the roller surface just by holding the sheet at the desired angle. Hmmm, People actually like this project...I'm so happy! TBH I never did the math, but I guess if I do a refreshed design, which I promise to do, I might consider it. Thanks for showing your interest.

Thank you for your interest man. I think I can make an improved version of this because at least one of these ballbearings needs to have some curvature at the outer ring to perform well. Which country do you live in?

I just wanted to mention that! The lower roller (doesn’t need to be a bearing thou!) should have a little bit of convex curvature to perform way more efficiently. The eastwood mini English wheel lower roller set has this… but I fell in love with your design as it’s very compact and would be a perfect tool in my model making arsenal! I’m in Canada.
