Today we're sharing our basic, go-to tips and tricks for training a miniature horse. Our daughter Abbie will be training Smokey the miniature horse stallion. He needs some work on manners, respect, and basic life skills. He's high energy and if left without any training he'll be difficult to handle.

your doing great but just a few tips. sometimes your body language can come off as a bit aggresive, when hes doing good try to hunch your back, walk slowly, look away from his face and take a deep breathe, when getting him to move dont just move closer to him, press out your chest. doing an outwards turn while lunging isnt always disrespectful, sometimes you got them to turn to quickly so its easier, you stepped back when he reared teaching him he can move your feet, dont introduce him to a bag too quickly, make sure hes really good with you and your tools, when he stand still with the bag make sure to take away the pressure. other than those few things your doing great!

Just a little tip for the part when you were working him in the round pen...if you are trying to make him go and your trying to be gentle with the wip and its not working.. Hes gonna learn to not do it. So in the future if they dont respond to what you were doing, make them go. Your the boss of them..so if they dont respond to the little wip movements, crack the wip on the ground so it makes a sound...then they will most likely get frightened by it and learn that it means move your feet. I did see that you did it a little bit tho and it started to work.. (no hate..just trying to help 💕)

Please watch some Steve Young Horsemanship KZbin videos . You will learn a softer versions of what you want to accomplish. He doesn’t rear and buck because his attitude they have only legs to protect them. Please watch you could help so many others without them questioning your methods. Please watch he will be much calmer and will yield instead of run. Please watch

I have a 4 month old mini that I need to begin working with but I have NO experience! He is halter broke and walks on the lead but walks right next to me. How do I teach him to respect my space? He also bites a LOT but he is very young! I jerk his halter or pinch his nose but that doesn't seem to work. Suggestions? Thanks and keep up the good work!!

What about starting a league for miniature horse racing? Perhaps, you can train mini horses to compete against other mini horses and give them races that they can win, knowing that they would stand no chance at big horses in the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness Stakes, the Belmont Stakes, the Haskell Invitational, or the Woodward Stakes. If only we can find humans that are smaller and shorter than the ones who ride the big horses, we can have miniature horse racing.

A lunging whip is an extension of your arm, if used correctly. It is also a great tool to add and release pressure.

@@DariaHarruff it’s just normal communication. Same thing with horses. If you don’t communicate and respect, and listen to your horse, then your horse WILL take advantage of you. All horses have a “pecking order”. You should always be at the top. Otherwise it could be very dangerous with you.

What do you do when they bite and jump up
@lifebyhannah392
@lifebyhannah392 2 жыл бұрын
Keep their feet moving. I don’t know the backstory of this horse or how much work he’s done, but if you have a horse who has behavior issues, get them in the round pen, keep their feet moving, change directions, get them focused on you. This is a great exercise for respect and trust, BUT, the biggest sign you want in this training is join up, a horse will tell you when they display licking and chewing, starting to smaller their circle around you, putting their head down, inside ear on you. They are then asking to join up with you and you be their leader. When they display those signs, that’s a great time to release pressure, lower and back off with the lunge whip or tail of a lunge line. They will slow and turn to you, that’s when you can angle your body away from them, and they will come in gently to be part of your “herd” Also, horses bite usually, (not always) as a later resort, so make sure you are paying attention to body language and not ignore first initial signs. Remember that you are listening and communicating in their language first, our language second.

You are not consistent and obviously confusing the horse. Maybe spending some time watching experienced horse trainers could be of great help. When you put a video out you are responsible for teaching other novices...and you are not knowledgeable enough for that responsibility. It's great your family is offering support and maybe you can all enjoy watching videos. But there is an important thing to remember...find out who is making the video and learn if they are knowledgeable!

He wasn't trained so it could've been dangerous to try the hoof trim. As far as weight he looks great. He looks like a horse should, I see way too many mini horses that look like fat donkeys.
