Hey there all! I often feel like painting instructors sometimes don't really get down to the nuts and bolts of the hobby--like, how much paint do you actually want on your brush for X technique? So this one is a really short take on that topic. :)
As I mention in the video, I did a 90-minute FREE online course about this and paint consistency for different techniques for ReaperCon 2020 and you can find that here on Reaper's KZbin! This should be a link to it.
• ReaperCon Day 1, Anne...
If the link doesn't work, just search for "Reaper Miniatures Thinning MSP Paint" on KZbin and it will come up. The course will always be there for you if you need help thinning your MSP paints for various techniques. :) Yes, I considered this topic so dang important that I made it available for free forever!
Thanks for watching everyone, see you next month!
Happy painting,
--Anne :)

I've been painting for a while, but recently picked up a great tutorial book (The Art of Tommie Soule) to hopefully jump from beginner to intermediate. That book starts out at great length about brush loading, but I wanted to see a video. I think you've done an excellent job here. Thanks!

Awesome video Anne! Your Patreon video on brush loading and unloading was probably the thing that improved my painting the most - that’s a must for any more advanced technique. You’re absolutely right that most people that teach painting don’t clearly explain and demonstrate these fundamental skills that so many people struggle with.

Thank you so much ma'am, you're the only one who has so accurately managed to diagnose why I'm having such a issues when I'm trying to paint fine details!

Oh damm, the trick of using a small brush with thinner paint to get even thinner layers, I had no idea :O Great content as always!

While I like the videos by the "big" names in the hobby, your videos feel like I'm in an actual workshop. The explanations and detailed explanation really helped me understand the nuances of brush control. I'm painting my first Astartes in the 'Heavy Metal style and was having one hell of a time with paint drying on my brush during edge highlighting. I've clearly needed to thin my paints more than I have been.

Super helpful video Anne. Thank you for posting this! I think I understand how to thin paint and load my brush for base coating but I'm still figuring out highlighting and glazing. These tips should help me a lot. I'll watch the ReaperCon video as well.

Hi Anne, I recently found your channel and absolutely love it! Went through all videos this morning. Amazing, totally wished I would have found it sooner! The question I have is did you ever make the layering video the next video in the session. Wanted to know if it could be uploaded so it could complete the series? That would be awesome! Thanks

I find the best way to unload a brush when using thinner paints like 1:1 or a glaze, is to generally tap just the tip to a piece of tissue. That capillary effect that wicks wet paint up towards the ferrule, is the same effect that will draw excess water out of the belly of the brush, leaving you with thin paint on the brush but without the excess fluid.

Hi Anne. Thanks for your helpful videos. Would you use the Reaper Wash Medium the same as the Brush-on Sealer when creating a wash?

Essentially so, but you won't need to add water since it already has that added.
