i LOVE this SO much!!! I just got into miniature painting again.. last time was like 15 years ago, painting Lord of the Rings metal minis... now, I'm 53 years young and just bought all the chromatic and metallic dragons.. am following your excellent videos to paint them! I really hope you paint the metallic ones eventually, so that I can follow along and paint mine! Keep up the AMAZING work and love your personality and kind nature as well!!!

I found your video after buying the adventurer's paint set and the young white dragon model for my game. I was planning for the dragon to be my first mini I had ever painted, but I wisely decided to try the character mini the paint set comes with first as practice. I was happy with how it came out so I booted up this video to watch it before getting into my dragon tonight. I was disappointed to see that you used your airbrush so much, but I figured I'd try my best to get a similar effect with my brush techniques I learned after doing it last night. I ended up being extremely happy with how it turned out! It didn't end up as professionally as yours, nor did I expect it to. But the end result was a really pleasant surprise for myself, especially considering my lack of paint colors and tools, not to mention experience. The sunset wings were a great addition that I received a few compliments on. Thanks again for this really great tutorial. You 100% earned yourself a subscriber.

@@DevsDice Absolutely, I see a Boxes of Shame vid pop up I immediately click! I know the feeling of being scared to do certain miniatures like that. Especially epic monsters like Dragons. The desire to do them true justice can be paralyzing. I'm sitting on A dragon and some beholder minis right now that I keep avoiding because of that. I'm glad you got the bump in confidence to bust out this amazing mini and I cannot wait to see which color you do next!
@DevsDice4 жыл бұрын
Thank you man! Yeah it is much scarier with Monsters that you like right? Cause just like you said, one wants to make them justice! Yeah the order was actually suggested by my wife so there is little to no "D&D" logic to it! :D

That looks awesome, the layers really add depth, I like the Icy gradient to the wing tips. I wouldn't have thought to add a pinkish color. I love the texture on the base. Lol I'm going to have to rethink my white dragon and step up my game o was going to to a pearl white highlight . So thanks for the great job as always.
@DevsDice4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the nice comment! Yeah I think pearl-white can work as well! I was actually debating whether to go for cold icy blue or warm cream white so but I think both work to be honest!

Just watched this and you did a fantastic job on the painting. The base turned out great and you layers on the dragon were very nice. My only thing that I would have done (OCD) is fill the wing gaps. That would make me crazy over time so, that’s a personal issue and in no way takes from what you did. You showed me what I am up against when I get these figures. Beautiful job!
@DevsDice2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much David! Yeah filling gaps is something I generally try to do but every now and then one slips through! 👍😂

Just watching this as the paint dries on mine. Almost done. I am trying to keep the blues more underneath the dragon, where it would provide some camouflage if you were looking up at it. This has ended up putting more grey black on the top side which makes it look more like a snowy owl. I tried to add some camo spots to it to heighten this effect but it did not come out very well

could you do the affect with the iridescent medium with a brush? Would you need to dilute it with a matte medium as well so its not as intense?
@DevsDice4 ай бұрын
One can use a brush and yeah diluting it could be good! 👍😊
@andrewl91913 жыл бұрын
I was a bit worried when there was so much blue on it, but the finishing white really turned it around. Do you ever put any kind of spray clear coat on a mini? It appears it's not as normal of a thing. When I was in college taking drawing classes, we had a matte fixative spray. I used that on Magic: the Gathering cards when I finished a painted alter, and I've also put it on a couple of minis at the end. I also picked up a glossy one which definitely looks different, but seems like it could have its applications. Thoughts? Does spray adhesive or clear coat from a spray can have any kind of negative effect on acrylic paints or any commonly produced minis? I know that spray cans don't like foam.
@DevsDice3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Andrew! I do use some matt, satin and gloss varnish when I am doing characters that will be handled a lot! The Army Painter, Vallejo and Citadel make these sprays among others! 👍🙂

Isn't a bit larger than it should be? The young dragon should be "large" which takes up 2x2 squares, right?
