Zichmoz Another way to do it is leaving the cane a little larger, and wrapping the cane slice fully around the ball, trying to bring the points together in the reverse side trimming off excess if needed. Here is a search showing many pretty lentil beads
Heather Wells Aha, so that's what those beads called. I now have an ocean or galaxy-themed lentil bead on my future craft list. Thanks for the reply and tip!

Ashley B I am currently using Triple thick. I am still looking for a good glaze to replace the old sculpey one. Future Floor Polish is used by many artists on Polymer clay, and I have heard good things about it. I am still hoping to find something clear, and thick.

I was not sure if you said to bake the cane for future use. If so what temp and how long? I will be doing the mini ones for my daughters Barbie food. You did get the mini cane by continuing to roll it right? Thank you
@heathernwells9 жыл бұрын
You are right :) I make the canes smaller by rolling it more. I form the canes and bak them. For peppermint sticks and peppermint candies I will bake the canes at the size I want them to be, and the I will slice them to the appropriate slices when I need them :) Thank you so much for watching :) Heather

I use an acrylic block from my stamping stash that works just as well. And Sculpey has a new starter kit that includes a thin piece of acrylic in it for rolling beads. I find it handy to get my snakes even too!

Everyone makes canes look so easy lol I've tried multiple times from spiderwebs to peppermint canes and everytime no matter the type of Sculpey or premium or premo I use it just blends together and never works idk what I'm doing wrong lol
@redhotsweetpotatoe9 жыл бұрын
Heather, I'm wondering, can you just twist the cane before slicing and get a swirl? As in twisting each end in opposite directions.
@heathernwells9 жыл бұрын
redhotsweetpotatoe I actually tried that a few times when I was designing them and tried to get a swirl and it never worked. because you are taking slices. I added a great deal of twist and it just didn't work. After being fustrated, I bought a tutorial and they made the same cane I did and twisted.. which I tried. Their photos had a little twist and they were a little sloppy. Following their instructions I still couldn't get the twist. Now years later after you comment, I think it is possible,you would have to do it when the cane was still fairly large and push inwards while twisting. Compacting the clay.
@redhotsweetpotatoe9 жыл бұрын
thank you Heather. You've just saved me a lot of stress and pulling out my hair. I would have tried it myself but am out of clay at the moment...now I'm glad I was. ;0)

Do you put on for shine?
@heathernwells Жыл бұрын
I would currently use a varnish for clay. As many other varnishes dry, look great.. only to get sticky months later. Once I get back into clay.. I will do so E product testing..
@coopersurgical17 жыл бұрын
what did you use to give the shine looks?
@aye_its_evangeline70957 жыл бұрын
She most likely used a glaze, which you can find in the same section you buy your clay at most craft stores such as Michaels. I use Sculpey glaze which I find right next to the Sculpey clay. It works pretty good, but there are better brands. Sculpey tends to wear away after long periods of time, and sometimes it becomes stickey to the touch. I started clay when I was about 11(I'm only 13 now so I haven't been doing it that long) and I don't know much so my charms are not anything great, so Sculpey works fine for now. But if you are looking for something that will last a long time and keep its shine I would recommend researching a better brand :)
@laneysanchez26956 жыл бұрын
I use Sculpey also , this is good to know about the wearing away, ty!

Maybe you need to chill it to firm it up.
@heathernwells Жыл бұрын
Usually that happens if the clay is too soft. In those cases I slide it in a ziplock in the fridge for 20-30 minutes
@cindymcpherson84144 жыл бұрын
Hi how do you get them so shiny??
@heathernwells Жыл бұрын
I think I used varithane. You have to be careful though some varnishes dry nice then get sticky months later. The old sculpey glaze is what I loved… but they made their formula thinner and it didn’t look good at all

I cant get canes down and I don't know why. After I reduce it, mines looks like distorted garbage. I'm about to quit altogether

You skipped over the hard part lol! How do you reduce it without messing up the lines? Thanks :)
@heathernwells Жыл бұрын
I never had a problem with reducing this style cane . I would pinch the ends a bit to prevent the pull from the inside then roll it. Is there is a problem reducing usually the clay is too soft. I will pop clay that is too soft in the fridge 20 minutes or so

@@heathernwells genius! I'll have to try that! Thank you
@sandrinou13294 жыл бұрын
my realisation doesn't do that. When I roll dought, the drawing pattern isn't the same like yours. I don't use polymer but cold porcelain, maybe it's the reason why it doesn't work. I don't know how to do... Could you explain me please ?
@heathernwells Жыл бұрын
It works well with premo and fimo… which are pretty firm I don’t know the consistency of cold porcelain. It may be timing it just perfectly. When it is hardening but still has some give… enough not to crack. I am guessing as I have not used cold porcelain
@sandrinou1329 Жыл бұрын
@@heathernwells cold porcelain is not enough hard like fimo. Effectively, when we roll and cut, it collapses..
