there is one use you forgot : testing paint : since it's sprues, it's the exact same stuff of the models : so if you want to test if something works, you apply it on a part of dried "grey stuff" and that you won't ruin your model. I discovered that Distress Crackle paint DOESN'T work on this but serves really well as a good glossy varnish.

With the half ball (13) and tires (12) in the silicone moulds, I found that leaving the mould with the sprue goo in an airtight jar with a bit of acetone lets the bubble slowly work out over a few days, then remove the acetone but keep the mould in the jar for another few days, and it will come out without the bubbles (ie bullet holes). Basically the bubbles are caused by the acetone pushing out too fast, and if you slow down the evaporation by keeping it in an airtight jar, the bubbles don't form and you get a better finish (but it is far slower). (also; please be careful heating parts glues with CA superglue, as it release cyanide fumes when heated.)

You have recruited me into the Cult of Sprue. Sprue goo is such a versatile medium, I have managed to make sprue bricks(with your coffee grinder trick) and by forming it over wire mesh have created two large projects, a bloodthirster bursting from a swirling well and a Plagueburst Crawler with a slug body instead of tracks. I have several other projects in mind, including basing a whole DeathGuard army and a Diorama of Leman Russ’s vision. I’m incredibly grateful for your videos that totally inspired me.

Finally I can recycle my old sprues! Been hoarding them (read: keeping them from sitting in landfill for the next 1,000 years) for a while now. Sent you a small box of sprues! I stole some of the nibbly nobbly bits to make a pile of coins though. Thank you for making these videos.

For years I've melted sprues and stretched them out to make the wire shape like you did at 3:29, then clipped the wire to the desired length, leaving a little bit of the sprue end to make radio antennas. While the sprue is still hot from the melting, you can bend it if you want your antenna to be bent.

Hi MH-Here's something I do, that #9 reminded me of. When you drill into minis you typically get little spirally bits. I save those up and them as flock for grass or Spanish moss. When I'm running low, I just grab an old sprue and start drilling away.

Great idea - combine that with some of those "cables/wires" used as vines, and the sprue shavings, trees, and foliage, and you've surely got something that looks really organic and natural for do-it-yourself swamp terrain.

Hi there, watching a program for kids there were some creepycrawlers and i though it could be a fun project for your sprues, a big woodlice animalwar for orcs or something like the ones in "Naussica" the movie by Miyazaki but turn into rides for hordes. Aniway pal, cheers and take care! Interezting channel BTW!

Another idea for the long wires is cutting those into smaller rivets.
@pietrayday9915
@pietrayday9915 3 жыл бұрын
#18 ( 21:37 ) - those wire/cables also look to me like... Tentacles/Tendrils Vines Worms/Snakes Rope (better if you can find a way to texture it) Stems for alien plants (would work well with the foliage trick, vines, a variation on your tree trunk, and some sort of creepy flower for Triffids!) Straps/Bands (lay lines of those cables out on your nonstick tray and roll them flat; should go nicely with your barrel trick, cannon, pipes/tubes, etc.) #3 ( 43:13 ) those awesome bricks look like they would work as... Metal Ingots, Gold Bars Wishing Well (when built in a ring, like the tea-light campfire ring) #31 ( 13:00 ) - those tubes/pipes look like they could use "elbow" bends, which could probably be made by rolling some of the ooey-gooey-spruey stuff into tubes of about the same diameter, bending, and cutting them. Use the flat bands (flattened wires/cables) to hide seams... # 11 ( 33:50 ) - combine the PVC glue-and-tissue trick with basically a short table (#17) and you've got some nice crude beds with blankets, and I bet the ooey-gooey-spruey stuff can be quickly and easily hand-formed into a pillow, too... This video is full of great stuff, but for some reason, my favorite, as simple as it is, is the bottles trick: that one would never have occurred to me! It's genius - makes me wish you had some clear/transparent/translucent plastic to do that with!

Hi I had a few questions about the gooey stuff, once its melted do you have to use it relatively soon, like within a week or can I just let it sit? also is there any safety precautions I should be aware of, like do i need to wear gloves or be in a well ventilated area? otherwise I'm a big fan and really excited when I collect enough sprues to start making larger projects
@bigbangattack97
@bigbangattack97 3 жыл бұрын
yes well ventilated area is a must as well as gloves as theres probably fucked chemicals in said melted goo. Im not sure how long it stays that way, probably as long as theres acetone still in the solution.
@pietrayday9915
@pietrayday9915 3 жыл бұрын
Acetone is some nasty, nasty stuff, definitely use with ventilation, and I'd suggest gloves. I don't know about how long the solution lasts, but since acetone is a solvent, I'd assume it will last until the acetone dries out... then just add more to dissolve the plastic again. Sounds like it's worth testing out to see what happens: at worst, you'll be out a small jar of nail polish remover and some sprues, which I would imagine won't be trouble to replace....

Fantastic video! I'm curious, can you re-ooey gooey the sprue plastic, like can you just keep putting the panel trimmings back in the acetone or can it really only be melted back down the once? Thanks for this, it's so inspiring!!
@charleshowie2074
@charleshowie2074 2 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you have discovered this by now but in case you haven't - Yes. You can de-melt/dissolve trimmings of solidified Ewwy-Gooey-Spruey-Stuff back into the jar just fine. I actually find it returns to the gal state faster than 'virgin' sprues.
