I got great results by making mould slightly deeper and filling it with some acetone before putting goo inside, then let it settle down in closed container. Eliminates literally all voids from surface of cast, because acetone rises on top (and in fact if you have goo in tall jar bottom can harden despite having acetone on top)
@MiniatureHobbyist2 жыл бұрын
Ahh I might have to try that then to make perfectly flat panels =)
@PhilTheEar2 жыл бұрын
So you just pour enough acetone to cover the bottom of the mold?
@willmarsden7657 Жыл бұрын
Hey mate, might not get a reply here, but can you explain your process more in detail: I'm looking for smooth tiles is all. Thanks!

This is excellent. I have a bag full of sprues waiting for my local Warhammer store to get a sprue recycle bin but this seems a much better way to reuse them!

Oh! I wonder! I scored a whole bunch of those railway-hobby rock moulds that I usually use plaster of paris in. I can't see any reason they wouldn't work with sprue goo, and I'd love to reuse more of my sprues -- time to experiment!

Dungeon floor tiles are one of the most useful things for any dungeon master. I still have my foam ones from when I played DND in person. I may have to do this for the sake of nostalgia

This looks like a great technique to make walls. Create two slim halves that look like bricks, then glue them together and voilà! Large wall sections for building ruins/castles/etc.

i wonder if one of those vaccum chambers could help getting rid of any bubbles//pockets when doing moulds.

I wonder if sprue goo will work with an injection molder or if it's better to melt the plastic with heat like the Crafsman does.
@MiniatureHobbyist2 жыл бұрын
maybe but when the acetone evaporates it does leave air pockets, if you heat sprues they tend to burn more than melt =P
@Merlynn1322 жыл бұрын
@@MiniatureHobbyist Maybe a low level heat to melt them? Crafsman grinds them up first too. But yeah,we need to think on better ways to recycle sprues. Still,if you can get the sprue goo into one mold,why not an injection molder? I wonder if anyone with an injection molder would be interested in risking their equipment to try it out....
@nekrataali2 жыл бұрын
@@Merlynn132 I wonder if tossing the sprues into an old blender and turning them into dust would change the consistency?
@Merlynn1322 жыл бұрын
@@nekrataali Well,technically,yeah,it would. But would they melt instead of burn as dust?

This is great because it's the kind of thing you just keep on the back burner and slow-bake a tile or three a day until you can cover a table, or you run out of sprue. 2-3 months of this and id imagine you can have a nice pile of tile
@MiniatureHobbyist2 жыл бұрын
Exactly, its free material to use so its a marathon and not a sprint lol =)
@alexcutler47382 жыл бұрын
great vid mate! Is there a way to make the spru-goo thinner or more liquid? It doesn't look like a ratio of spru to acetone thing but could make it a bit easier to work with?
@MiniatureHobbyist2 жыл бұрын
Cheers, not that Ive found, leaving it for longer makes no difference, after 8 hours its goo but then doesnt get any gooer, maybe something other than acetone would make it thinner but not sure what that would be, if you find out let me know =)

This is awesome, I love your channel but I have missed the sprue goo videos. I never like to waste things so they scratch that itch. Have you ever found any texture rollers that won't melt when you use them on sprue goo?

Just recently I had finally gotten my hands on the Gasland's skid dice and was about to settle for a game...When I was hit with a gyrocopter problem. Gyros can fly up to 10k feet in the air, but still can crash into terrian, that means in 32mm scale a 104 YARD (rounded down) piece of vertical terrian piecce would have to be placed on the field. Any Gooey ideas?

For texturing the foam, you 'd get a better result by damaging it manually with a rock, one by one. Takes longer, but you have control.
