Great video, thanks! Really looking forward to this, I'll treat myself to the base set. Just have to decide if it'll be for the English Civil War or 30 Years War! Out of all three ranked up Warlord games (Black Powder, Hail Caesar and this) I feel that Pike and Shotte will benefit most from going to this scale for those of us with smaller tables to play on. The way the units are composed doesn't really suit play on a 6x4 table at 28mm I feel so (as you point out) the unit width and size of epic will really suit this period. One thing I find rather strange is the decision to package 30 years war and English civil war sets seperately when it comes to single boxes of infantry and cavalry, I'd have thought it would have been easier to have one sku and include both flag sheets in the box.
@MiniatureRealms Жыл бұрын
I think one sku and two sets of flags in a box would definitely have been cheaper, I can only guess they see the benefit of being able to market them as separate things, and I guess they can see from the sales of each theatre which one is more popular.

Bought everything the moment the preorder went up. Wish list for ECW only - A siege pack would be great with petards, mortars, walls (breached and solid), gabions, earthworks. A Scot/Irish set for Covenanters, Montrose and Irish forces to slap Cromwell around. An alternative foot unit with unarmoured pikes and firing muskets that can be mixed and matched with these first sculpts. Perhaps some bigger formations to give deeper or wider units. A generic countryside pack with hedges, trees, field walls, roads, etc. Something to fit nicely at this "epic" scale. More village buildings and "local" features like village Cross, market stalls/carts, ducking stools, stocks, etc. Yeah, I'm excited!

Very nice coverage on this new release Stuart and thanks to Mr Miller for his valuable input. Personally I would love to see them release Polish-Lithuanians as Gustavus Adolphus primarily came up with his tactical doctrine and unit organization in the late 1620s fighting the Poles in East Prussia. Thanks for the vid. I was super interested in this then the pricing came out , I don't understand why warlord changed from Pounds to US for ordering down under (NZ). The starter box deal $304 NZ now and it would have been $220 converting from pounds. Sadly they have lost a customer I will now purchase from other company's ie pendraken.
@MiniatureRealms Жыл бұрын
Oh no that’s a shame, that makes it £158 (rather than £119). I’m not sure their business reasons, but I wonder if your stock ships via US distribution now? That’s a guess, but could be a reason, could also just be US$ is their currency for all non UK/EU. I’m assuming you then have to pay shipping on top of that? For my business I ship internationally a lot, and I know for a box of that size and weight I’d be looking at least £30 to send it tracked and without extra insurance cover. I don’t know how NZ stock is handled, do they send via a distribution centre, or just direct to customers (think they do that for US customers).

Great video as ever. Seriously tempted by the Push of Pike set, simply because of the size of ECW battles /armies vs Napoleonic. Pleasing that this release is actually 2 armies in one box (or one very big one). For reading material you should contact Dave Ryan at Caliver Books (as close to an ECW expert that I've encountered). It was he that suggested "All the King's Armies" to me as an essential buy 20 odd years ago. Interesting to see it's still seen as a "must buy". The Hayornthwaite book that I've seen recommended is OK but both the plates and some of the text is considered very outdated in terms of current day understanding.

From my basic knowledge ( I'm more of a late Dark Ages/Early medieval/ ACW/WW2 fan) Powick Bridge (1642) was more of a Cavalry skirmish which the Royalists won. The 1651 Worcester battle saw the Royalist Scots take a beating from the New Model Army & was pretty much the end of the war. Personally think Powick would probably make a good game to learn the rules with.

I was hoping for a Peninsular war starter set, but looking at this morning on the Warlords site, it really is an amazing starter set. I think this was the only criticism of the Napoleonic Waterloo release that there was no combine starter set. Personally I didn't mind as I got all three and meant I didn't have to buy anything extra apart from commanders and the casaulty markers. I'm not at all knowledgeable on 17th century battles so will be watching with interest. After my Napoleonic project I was planning to start the Epic ACW especially when Warlord expanded the plastic range over the previous very expensive metals.
@MiniatureRealms Жыл бұрын
I love them to cover the Peninsular War, but I think they may want to cover a few other things off first, and they might find a way to cover that with a limited release as well (rather than a big starter). Given the size of peoples Napoleonic collections, and the apparent size of the armies people want to collect, I think the starter army sets for Waterloo made sense. But I’d love to see a slimed down starter set like the smaller ACW one now, would be a good way to hook new players in. That updated ACW range is really good now, they’ve learned quite a lot, and it’s a really good time to get into it.

Depending on how you paint them I think that in this scale these figures are applicable to any Western European army in the 1600s, so also good for the Dutch vs the Spanish, 30 Years War, ECW, Irish Wars including the Battle of the Boyne all the way up to the Nine Years War in the late 1600s. I'm not going to bite as I still have way too many Napoleonics to paint but if you are interested in the period they look like fantastic value. If they expand with Ottomans and Poles/Russians then they have covered 90% of the period.
@MiniatureRealms Жыл бұрын
I think Warlord will do loads more of these. I wonder if they see a Epic Hail Caesar as a ‘bigger release’, one more like the Waterloo range where multiple sprues will be needed, so will return to it when they have a big enough release slot. I think with this one being essentially two sprues, it’s much more in the style of the first ACW one, so more manageable. It’d expect we will see Epic Romans Vs ….. within the next couple of years, new Napoleonic nations (Russia and Austria), and maybe even another smaller release like this one, maybe 100 Years war etc.
