As a designer and long-time Mac user, I LOVED Bear, back in the day. It made writing so pleasurable. For some reason, I left Bear behind and forgot all about it. Today I'm looking to theme my Obsidian and came across your video. Now look! Obsidian looks and feels like Bear. Love it, love it, love it. Thanks Darin, you've made my day!

@@dsuthapong It really was. But now I'm in a deep, deep rabbit hole. I've gone a little futher than your theme and have learnt a little CSS, so I can create my own callouts (and a few other tweaks), and now I'm about to starting theming it in Bear's dark theme 'Charcoal'. My productivity has dropped out of my shoes right now, but I'm having fun making Obsidian lovely to use (I'm a designer by trade, so I'm prone to the shallow, shiny trinkets in life!)

For callouts, I like to use templater's callout option. You just set a hotkey to it (mine is CMD + OPTION + C), then it brings you up to all the possible callout functions. Its useful because you don't have to remember the different types of callouts (hints, tips, warnings, etc.)

This video (like all your videos was so helpful). At first I wasn't thinking I'd get much because I'm happy with my theme, but when you started talking about Callouts (I seriously spent over 10 minutes last week trying to figure out what these were because they looks so darn cool compared to normal expanding headings) and showed how easy that was, then auto slash commands THEN you showed about hotkeys to make your left and right panels appear/disappear - WHOA! So much value. I open and close those all the time and having shortcuts set up will save me going to mouse. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Ah… i have recorded the video to show you step by step. Please see here: October 23, 2023 kzbin.info/www/bejne/sIjWlYWffsiJhqM The overall steps are 1. Download Style Settings 2. Go to Minimal section > Ribbon You should see the option ☺️ if not… Are you using mac or windows? I’m not sure if this option is only available on mac 🧐

Whilst Minmal theme Setting - focus mode declutters the screen - it also seems to remove the working file/note name and when two notes are often used side by side - this element of 'focus' seems to work against you.
@dsuthapong
@dsuthapong Жыл бұрын
Agreed! The work around is the turn on the “stacked tabs” command to show the name of the note while in this mode. I’ll cover this in the next video 😊

Hello Darin, thank you for these tips. Looks and works great on desktop. However, on my iPhone the note title reaches into the left hand sidebar icon and overall everything seems to shift a little bit to the top sometimes and gets cut off because of the iPhone notch. Using iPhone 14 Pro Max if this info is necessary. Did you make the same experience and do you have tips to fix it? I also come from Bear and love its look. Do you have any further tips or settings to make it more like Bear? Thank you Darin, appreciate all your efforts and help 🙏

I understand. I agree, the linking process in Bear is not really efficient. You said you use Things 3 for your projects. That's interesting. That's basically the reason why I considered Bear because it has a similar touch and feel. Craft is basically in the same category. Have you considered Craft as your note taking app? What are your reasons you didn't choose Craft?@@dsuthapong

Created by Kepano - but before he became the CEO of Obsidian... Starbucks is hardly a recommendation for a font. : ))))) What isn't clear though is within the snippets - having multiple snippets in the designated folder... if I rename the file before dropping it in - say Darins-cursor.css so as not to over write or interfere with other, etc. That segment I feels was just too fast and not covering the needs of your snippet or your audience... BUT, very nice intro to some of the deeper recesses of Obsidian. Thanks.
