After all the advertisements on KZbin I took the plunge and got audible and it has changed my relationship with reading! As a student I never feel like reading for leisure by the end of the day but there are still so many books and stories I want to hear, so listening to audio books on my bus rides has made a huge difference. I feel more productive and I don't have a stack of books collecting dust.

I also love Audible! I have a Kindle account too, and I find it staggering how many books I've come to own digitally. It's helping me get to a place of letting go of more physical books.

Hello canna! This video is so true and timely! As i have embarked on this journey towards minimalism, the books were totally untouchables. I used to own about 150 books and I love most of them. But my little daughter had been sneezing a lot lately and got me wondering if my books were to blame. As her allergies worsened, I decided to finally let go. To be practical, I sold what I could of my fiction books which are more than half of my mini library. With each book sold (80%off still in good condition), I surprise them with a free one. And to every collection sold, I give another set for free. 😁 I never thought I would be happy to part with my beloved books.

How wonderful of you to do that... and I'm sure that the new owners of your books will get just as much joy out of them as you did! It's also nice that you can pass them on for others to share and enjoy as well! xCC

A great place to buy books is better world books. It's a website that sells new and used books and they give a book to charities for every book sold! I buy the secondhand version to save money and so I don't feel so bad letting it go!

Sugar Mamma more great advice!! I want to share with you, from one of your other videos. It was about thinking before spending, or something like that. Listening to you has tremendously helped me to not spontaneously spend. Over the past several months, there have been many times I was about to purchase & then stopped, waited & eventually I have been extremely pleased that I waited! Obviously it has been a problem! Minimalism is clearing my clutter & helping my finances. A huge thank-you!! You have been great help!!❤️

i am beginning my minimalism journey and recently got rid of my nooks and kindle and downloaded the Kindle app (free) on my cell phone. Now all my books are on my cell and I can read anywhere I go.

I love this video! And as matter of fact, this is the toughest part for me to get over with... as long as I could rationalize cleaning up the closet, getting rid of books is reeeeeally difficult. I know that to majority of them I will not go back, but I just can't get rid of them! What I did instead is promise to myself that I am not going to buy new ones, as long as I am convinced that the books is extraordinary. I started using the library again! and downloading more ebooks. I am always so happy when you upload new videos, they seem so relevant and honest! lots of love from italy!

I refuse to get rid of my books! It's pure vanity and I freely admit it but I have extremely little in the way of other possessions so I allow myself to indulge in books. I love looking at them and remembering what new idea or genre or topic I'd discovered at certain points and how excited and inspired I was. if I lost them all in a fire or something I'd survive, but Im not even contemplating throwing them out!

I think it's great that you are still getting so much out of them... and I don't think there's any reason to part with them if they still bring you joy in your life! xCC

I LOVE these tips! Thank you so much for this video. I was a literature major and I am an early childhood teacher so my house is filled with books. I felt guilty about getting rid of them but they take up so much space and some of them really hold no value for me anymore. I can't wait to apply these tips. Thank you again!

Time I reviewed my extensive book collection. Four decades worth, I love books, they are like my children. Giving them away seems a big ask!, However, I’m ready to cull & move on my collection of fashion & hobby magazines, to a charity. Then I’ll gently go through my book collection, one large bookshelf / case at a time, sort, reflect & let go if it feels right😀

Over the last year I've downsized my book collection from about 600 to about 350. I had some in storage in my attic and was shocked when I actually counted how many I owned all together. I started slowly and started with the low hanging fruit- books I didn't like that much, and it gets easier and easier as you go. I'm still working on it, there are many more to donate.
@SugarMamma8 жыл бұрын
Wow, that is a lot of books and the charities you donate them too will be so grateful for them. You must feel a lot lighter now that you have halved your book collection. xCC

I have gotten rid of 50-60% of my book collection in the pursuit of a more minimalist life. The only physical books I keep now are ones not available on e-book that I love and 1 book to read through at night (mostly because the rays of any device keep you up and do not help you fall asleep). For cook books, I just type up a cookbook and am going to have something similar to your system, but Word files. Thanks for the video!!!

That's so great that there are charities that will take books. I was so disheartened when I took a big bag of perfectly fine books to vinnies and they turned me around, it was heartbreaking having to recycle them so some of them ended back on my shelf :(

I have included some links to charities in the description box... perhaps you contact some to see if they would like your books. xCC

So surprised by this. Have 100% loved your videos and ideas so far. But as a mum, I'd say my (big) book collection has really inspired my two kids to read across the board. They see books they'd never have read otherwise. They know books are an amazing part of everyday life, in part because they're surrounded by them. They've learnt so much from them (as have I) and as they've got older they've picked ones out to read together or on their own. Also, authors are struggling so much these days to sell, as younger generations go online. They desperately need the support of all of us. Their income is so much higher from paper copies. If we really want decent works of art, they need our support to eat. Minimalism is wonderful and your posts have really helped my own experience. Yes, it's individual. But there are other considerations. Mx

I'll admit it as I've been trying to become more minimalist, I've reduced my books but have been increasing my children's book collection. (I've given birth 4 months ago). I only tried to buy the classics eg Spot, Hairy Maclary and Dr Seuss. I know my daughter Will read the books for years to come

As always great tips! Would have loved to get a peak at your bookshelves ;) I think a book is always better off in the hands of a new, curious owner than standing unread in a shelf for years. Canna, would you consider investing in better lighting (maybe with some tips from a professional) and a better thumbnail? You are so stylish, your content is so smart and motivating. I think some small visual improvements would have a great impact and possibly attract more viewers. Just a thought :)
