Great point! Sometimes minimalism can be a source of pressure and of making you feel like no matter how much you declutter, you always have too much of everything. For that reason, I prefer to think of it as "essentialism", cultivating what you love. Beautiful video as always!
@FairylandCottage5 жыл бұрын
I like that word 'essentialism' otherwise we are just in the trap of trying to live with nothing and feeling inadequate if we have anything eh!

I'm practicing to stay in the moment! My head often tells me of the things I "need" improve my life or help me with my job. Currently I'm dealing with my compulsive buying of almost 12 years. I got rid of my store credit cards, I unsubscribed from all the marketing emails, I deleted the Amazon app and I avoid going to the mall. Surprisingly, I am not in debt but I realize of all the money I wasted...but I have to forgive myself and move forward. I am a work in progress and hope that soon I will be able to be happy and grateful with the things I have and also have a clean and minimal home!! A minimalist life💖

What wonderful work you have been doing! well done. I am impressed. It is not easy to make changes so I honour you. The results will show themselves to you in your life you have now. Sometimes we like to be hard on ourselves because the significance we felt from our addictions gets lost when we change our behaviour so we continue to be hard on ourselves to meet our needs even if it doesnt make us feel good. If you fancy, look up Choice Theory by William Glasser. He helped me a lot to change my mental chat....

Hello! My virtual friend in Australia 🇦🇺 told me about your page & you tube after my life took a huge change recently. I was forced into releasing everything almost I had. What could be packed in my small car! First many things went to charity shops, my beloved bicycle went to my daughter in law, treasured photos ( before digital age) huge bin to my son for safe keeping. It was like settling my estate myself! 😂👌. I took my fav mugs, plates, wine glass, glasses, flower vase etc. Things I wanted with me. My bin of yarn, sewing box, CD's! movies and of course my books! After carrying boxes of books to my car I am recently warming up to kindle books 😂 My virtual friend thought watching you would make me feel better about giving up my things I have had since Well forever! She was right, and now you are reminding me to live simply as I did when my kids were little. I live with my daughter right now, I have inspired her, through your videos, to declutter. She has taken to it nicely and happier for it! I sew more ( repurposing her things & repairing my grandsons cloths) knitting cotton face wipes with my cotton yarn I have and cooking ( reminding my daughter it's healthier) I have spent yesterday watching several of your videos, and need to go back for some recipes but thank you for your inspiration, getting back to basics, & the Joy of life! 😂👌💋♥️🇨🇦Debi

I love how simple and straightforward you’ve made this concept! People do get caught up in the extremes of movements, and when they do (when I do), we lose the purpose: to make our lives better and more our own. Thank you for this lovely little video!

When I was first married 42 years ago, I came across a book called, Living more with less. I read it over and over because with each stage of life, our needs change and we adapt. I appreciate your videos so much. It reminds me that the things we enjoy and spark joy are important, but when things become a burden, then I know I have too much and it’s time to reevaluate and purge out the “things” that no longer bring joy.

As silly as this sounds, this short video is life changing, it’s like I had a sudden epiphany. I need to LOVE everything I have, otherwise it has no place in my life. I took 3 minutes to go through mine & my husband’s shoes. Turns out I only love about 7 pairs! I was also holding on to shoes that I USED to love, when I realized they had been replaced by NEW favorites & therefore I no longer needed to keep them! After three minutes, my closet floor was simple and neat and I had a huge pile of shoes to get rid of. It felt so cleansing! I took a picture of the simplified shoe closet along with the pile of things I no longer wanted. I refer to these pictures to help remind me how I felt when I purged

You really said everything, this is really the life advice that I know is true. I just left you a big comment on another video so I'll try not to gush again but this is the first time in my life I am hearing this kind of information, and just by following your channel and doing this, I am finding so much help, joy, peace, and healing. Where I live everyone does everything the same. Everyone is in this fight to be the most successful, to have a home that looks like a magazine, always the latest fashion of clothes and shoes, even your kids have to have the latest fashion and techs or they will be bullied mercilessly and here (Wiesbaden, Germany) you are very judged about everything. People judge you even on the foods you pick and the amount you make at dinner parties. There is just this mold of a person of what you are striving to look like and it feels like a jail to be this person, and like a failure when I just can't achieve it. But after watching your channel I feel like I can dare to be different. It doesn't have to be this way. It doesn't have to be about stuff. I don't have to be this person, or have a ton of clothes and shoes. I can be free of it and not suffocated by it. I have even been teaching my kids. We have been going through their rooms with them and giving a lot of stuff away. Even my kids are happier. Their rooms are not so stressful to them. And to my shock my three year old is absolutely loving helping me make the tooth paste and self care products. We have his room purged and organized, we showed him where everything's place now was in the room and yesterday he came up to us completely ready for bed. He was tired and so he went into his room, changed his own pull up diaper, and had put his own pajamas on and came to tell me he was ready for bed. We were completely speechless!! But his room is so simple now that it's like he is so comfortable and knows what to do and where everything is, and it's made him this confident little person. I never even realised how much stress all the stuff had put on my kids. But I am really seeing changes in them too, and seeing the little one put things back in this new place for it is keeping the room clean and it's just creating this atmosphere for him where he loves to be in his room! My older one lived too long in the chaos so we are still working on him but he even comments on how nice his room looks. Anyway I'll stop now, I'm just so excited that I have so much to say. Hehehhee Thank you so much for all this information, it's life changing! ❤

Volunteering at a thrift store (the one I love benefits women and children of domestic violence) really gives you a perspective on how much “stuff” there really is in the world. And how easy it is to accumulate more stuff. It’s actually quite insidious! I am constantly aware of my own stuff habit and have begun to get rid of something if I want something new. And love an opportunity to “gift” things to others. I am 70 now and do not need much. Many of my beautiful things are being carefully given away as quietly as possible. And it is so much fun!
@FairylandCottage5 жыл бұрын
yeah I'd say you see it all in the thrift shops because I have heard if things dont sell they have to go to landfill... We really do accumulate too much eh! gratitude for what I have is what I do and like you do 'gifting' to others.

I love your point that when we have less what we do have becomes sacred. It’s so true. Minimalism is a process that is different for everyone, isn't it? We all have our own set of values that are important to us. Living aboard is fairly minimalist, to begin with. I do however collect books so my husband has built me bookshelves/cases throughout. I also collect vintage handkerchiefs, I have close to 40. And cutting boards...my daughter thinks having 6 is a lot. LOL...I can have a small wardrobe/shoes or a very few nicknacks, but the books/hankies/cutting boards are a must. We're all different. Thanks for bringing to attention that minimalism isn't just about living with nothing, it's cherishing what you have and letting go of the rest. Cheers!

I guess I am a minimalist because this is how I live. You talked about utensils. I have one plastic spoon that is burned on the end and a masher. I had a turner but it broke. I was going to buy another but I have gotten to be a wiz at turning an egg with two spoons. Maybe one day I will buy another turner but who needs it when you can use two spoons? ❤❤❤

Great message! I also love your mug. :) (I'm the person who was in love with your bowls before.) And your clothes & style in general! I see Doreen Virtue books on your shelves. I wonder if you've heard she's started following Jesus of the Bible & left her New Age beliefs & practises behind. I had a similar experience 6 years ago after being a professional teacher of Witchcraft (& follower of Celtic Paganism) for a couple of decades, & I have finally found peace & joy. Anyhow, blessings to you ~ I am really enjoying your content & how you present it!

Such a kind, gentle explanation of minimalism. So many people get bogged down in what minimalism means & the right way to do it, that no one wants to try for fear of getting it wrong. Everyone should see your video to learn that it's alright to have your own, personal, minimalism choices. :-D

so true Gillian... these concepts become invented and sometimes it can separate everyone instead of making it simple and being kind to ourselves and others..

My watering jug finally broke and my husband said I should buy another one. I looked around and had a lot of olive oil bottles so I use them. Love your channel....
