Dear Cathy I have seen this video many times and it has inspired me to paint at least 6 paintings from it. Even thoug you mention in the video that you could not connect to it. I feel like it goes straight to my heart. thank you and I hope you make more of these minimalist paintings.

So glad you connect to it. Sometimes I try to stop myself from uploading the paintings I don't like, or connect with, but then I try to remember that uploading everything is important. I really want people to see that exploring teaches you alot about yourself and uploading everything might help someone else, like it did for you. I do some minimalist ones from time to time, but I never know whats going to pop out of me. Haha! Anyhow I have this video too. I love the color combination, from my screen it looks like Azo Nickel Gold or Azo Nickel yellow, unbleached titanium and black...I like to watch your process...inspiring...I loved the finished piece.

Thank you so much Karan. I just wish I felt good about this piece. I still learned something, so thats the wonderful part about using an art journal. You find out what you like and don't like rather quickly. ;)

Hi Cathy. A really good video which I enjoyed watching. The whole colour combination works great. It's so interesting that virtually the whole image is on the vertical with hardly any horizontal aspect to it... with the exception of some writing across the top part of the picture. It works! @@CathyMevik oh Cathy I am so sorry to hear that your not feeling well I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers 🙏 and pray that you don't have it also my daughter lives in Massachusetts and she was sick for 6days starting good Friday her temp spiked to 102.9 she started with pain in her knees then each day it was something new from running to the bathroom to had a hard time breathing To a bad taste in your mouth ect and a wicked headache for 3 days she is much better now and so will you be too 💌🙏🖌️🎨

Haha.. I think that happens alot. Sometimes, when I edit these videos I wonder what I was thinking. 🤣😂🤣 I think it's hard for us to see our own work, and when I journal I don't stop and take the time to look at it from a better angle, like I do when I work on canvas. 💜

That was done in my favorite journal. It's from kunst & papier (www.kunstpapier.de). The paper is 135 gsm, so not the sturdiest, but it works just fine as long as you start with a layer of gesso.

Cathy! I love all of your demos and practiced some. At the beginning and after some carbon marks, you pressed a black material that covers more than the first, is that carbon or black paint from the tube? The final result is “something special”!!! Congrats! Petrin from Puerto Rico!

I love everyone of your pieces...I’ve viewed :) I would love to try but still can’t figure what paper to start with and do you prime or gesso first???

Thank you Judith. ❤ You can use any paper you like as long as it's not too thin. My journals have 130 gsm paper, and I do have to gesso them before I start painting. The paper is too thin to hold the paint if I don't. But if you enjoy painting on watercolor paper or mixed media paper, then you could do that as well. They are both alot heavier than the paper in my journals, and you wouldn't have to gesso the paper unless you wanted to. :) Have fun creating!

Hey Heike, I mostly use synthetic brushes. I use cheap and expensive ones and do not have any preferences with the ones I use in my art journal. 💜

I use the Amsterdam series, but you can use any paint you choose. My book is from a german company - Kunst & Papier, it’s 130 gsm.
