I like not having overhead cabinets too, makes the place look more spacious and prevent storing up junks. I'm only 5'3" and my top shelves are useless.

Hello from Manila, Philippines Sophie! I just looooove your home! It is minimalist in essence but it is artsy, warm, cozy & has modern rustic or modern country & also Asian decorative elements. It's tastefully eclectic & yet soooo serene. It is far more stylish than most of these antiseptic, boring, generic "Scandinavian style" minimalist homes. Sorry but those minimalist, super neat, ascetic, austere spaces would drive me crazy & would make me feel like I were living in a "hospital". Lol I find that type of minimalist home simply depressing!!! Art works, beautiful things & furniture give me joy. Your home inspires me!! It is something to emulate & something that is possible & realistic in the Philippines! We have lots of really beautiful solid wood furniture & crafts! Sooo glad I watched your video!

Your home is beautiful. I really like the simplicity and the fact that you and your husband did a lot of the work yourselves. It's nice to find a like-minded person on youtube. My husband and I have done similar with our home. We have worked hard, made lots of sacrifices, and now because of that we are out of debt and are able to live a more quiet life. We are in our mid-forties so this did not happen overnight, but I definitely do not have any regrets with the financial choices we've made. I am able to work a casual job and take shifts only when it suits my schedule. Lots of people think we are "rich" which always makes me laugh. We are absolutely not rich, far from it, but we have chosen to not live the way most people do in the materialistic society we live in.

The balcony is my favorite part! I especially love the turtles! I am curious, when you say you rent out the downstairs and the cabin in the back, do you mean for vacation rental (airbnb?) or long term renters? I am hoping to move to Maui in the next year, and I would love tips on where to search for long term rentals. Watching your videos is so inspiring, and I'm so impressed with all the creative work you did on your beautiful home!

Thank you Micheala 🥰 I love the turtle tiles too! such a cute feature. I rent out for long term (longer the better). I suggest you look at fb marketplace and craigslist. Sometimes zillow too. I really suggest you don't rent something (or sign contract) sight unseen. Sometimes the photos don't tell the whole story and it's a good idea to get a feel for the location! I hope this helps

We have been coming to Maui almost every year for many years, and usually stay with friends on island, so we will make sure to be there before we commit to a place. We were originally looking to buy, but renting sounds better, to test it out. We would love to live in Haiku or Kula/Upcountry! Thanks again for sharing your art with us!

Wow, what a beautiful home. I don't know why, I really like how the dinner room table has a bench and it matches really well! Oh man, I had no idea your balcony extended as far as it does, that's really cool! I can see how all the decluttering paid off. I did finally get some decluttering done, as I'm in the process of moving (also a reason why I haven't been as active on KZbin lately). @@MalamaLife Thank you Sophie! Yeah, still busy, but things are starting to calm down. I'm been doing a lot of thinking about my channel and how I want to move forward. Hopefully, it will be something I enjoy, is artistic, entertaining, and philosophical :)
