Thank y'all so much for watching today's video! I would love to know - what is your hot beverage of choice - coffee or tea? Or something else? I love a good cup of coffee in the fall ☕️ 💕

I love coffee!

My frequently used electric kettle is the only appliance that I leave on the counters. I would put the cookbook and its stand back where it used to be as it is colorful and doesn't take up much space. You did a great job.

Putting the toaster on a small cookie sheet will give you an auto crumb catcher. Bonus easy storage for the cookie sheet. Keeping the coffee maker in the corner, still below the coffee beans. Would fill the corner and leave the rest of the straight counters virtually empty. Personally I am a spoon rest fan, keeps the counters clean while cooking.

Thanks so much for the ideas! I love the cookie sheet idea, that's so smart!! That's funny that you mentioned the coffee pot, bc I ended up moving it into the corner later and like it much better!

Great tip, I have my toaster on a serving tray for crumbs and when I know we'll have guests I can easily take it out and wash it to use it.

For your knives, you should empty out a drawer and get a wooden drawer knife block organizer. It works great 😊You should also raise the shelf in your spice cabinet to fit the cooking spray. For drying your dishes, you can use a drying mat only. When things are dry, put them away and fold the drying mat and put it under your sink.

I'm from the UK and I keep my kettle on the stove, I drink 20 + cups of tea a day.. Loving you declutter videos. I'm also minamlist and ran out of things to declutter. Because of the lock down here there is nowhere to take the declutter to x
@HeatherMitchellxoxo3 жыл бұрын
Wow that's a lot of tea ☕. I can definitely agree with you on leaving the kettle out, it would no doubt make your life easier. I'm glad you enjoyed!

We live in a 450 square foot house so I’m really excited to see how much you can minimize your countertops. I use a dessert plate as my spoon rest, wash it and put it away. Multipurpose items are life-savers. I store my lidded containers together but nested. The nested stackable containers sit on top of the stacked lids. Easy peasy
@HeatherMitchellxoxo4 жыл бұрын
I love the dessert plate and the nested container idea 💕 Thank you for sharing! 😁 I totally agree about multi use items. They are the way to go!

If you own the house you could add in a slightly smaller (height wise) over the sink that has a slotted base - dishes can drip dry into the sink but you can shut the cupboard doors so you can’t see them
@HeatherMitchellxoxo4 жыл бұрын
Great suggestion 😁, thanks! I actually considered that as well. It would definitely be a helpful addition.

I have had that and it worked so well. Made washing up so much easier too.

Congrats, it looks amazing!! I don’t know if it would work out, but maybe you could try putting the knives next to the fridge?

That's just what I thought when I saw that space! Either that or putting them in drawer which would mean moving some other things....

I put my toaster in an upper cabinet. Not sure I love it being there but it’s the most convenient spot. It’s tough to put away the pretty things. I like your copper stuff. As for hot drink-I prefer coffee but I like tea also.
@HeatherMitchellxoxo4 жыл бұрын
I agree, it is hard! That's why I decided to keep our little shelf for decorations 🥰 But so far, I have really loved having the counters free. It can be difficu when there aren't a lot of convenient spots to put things though!

Do your spice cabinets shelves adjust?If you can move the shelf up a little so the oil and cooking spray fit.
@HeatherMitchellxoxo4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the suggestion! I don't know why I didn't think of that when I was filming! I thought that maybe the bowls and plates wouldn't fit if I did, but I adjusted it and everything fits perfect now🙌🧡

I love your counters cleared off, even though your copper things are pretty! I consider myself a minimalist even though I have SO many more dishes and utensils than you! I also have way more things on my counter, which I don't like but my husband had a fit when I tried to put my knives into a drawer! I keep the toaster on the counter because my husband uses it once or twice every day and because of the crumbs. But I did move the coffee maker into a cupboard since we only use it in the morning. I had to leave my paper towels out because I use tons of them every day! Also my utensil/wooden spoon container and my electric kettle since its used several times a day. And a crock for scrubbing sponges, scrub brush, because I don't want to get it from under the sink several times a day. But I did get rid of the 3 glass jars with dried beans, oatmeal and pasta that were for decor and I keep a majority of the peninsula completely clear!

Well it sounds like you are doing a great job and have the right mindset for sure 😉 Sometimes we have to take it one step at a time, one season at a time, untill we get to that perfect place we desire. Thank you so much for sharing Dana! Keep it up and best of luck to you on your minimalism journey.

I only have 3 knives and they are just in my utensil draw. You could get rid of the stand or get a magnetic strip to put the on the wall so as easy to access. X

We ended up doing this and it was a huge help. We realized that we were only using a few of the many knives we had and this allowed us more space and peace of mind to not have a drawer full of knives to fumble around in. Thanks for sharing Rebecca!

Sorry for the multiple comments, as I was watching your video I kept thinking of something, you did an amazing job. I did see your chargers, I actually use a shelf for the outlet that I found on Amazon so when I am charging my phone it doesn't take space on my one little counter and holds my Alexa Dot

The one thing I have is also a kettle on my stove, my kitchen is small and I only have a little square of countertop space for my dish drainer rack and another little square next to the stove. So my kettle goes on the stove but we use it at least 2 or 3 times a day. I do keep my most used utensils for cooking in a little utensil holder cup, this takes up less space than having my knives out.

The best part of keeping a simple setup is finding out what works best for your space. It is up to each of us to find what unique setup works best for us in any give situation. Thanks you so much for sharing! It sounds like you made the most out of your space and that's awesome 😊

Our air fryer, fruit bowl, spoon rest, dish soap dispenser, and scrub bush are the only things we leave out on the counters. I hate cleaning around stuff, and so this is totally worth having everything else put away. The toaster is the only thing that sometimes stays out for more than just one use, but only if we have something like bagels that week where it is being used daily. It still has a home in the cabinet though, so it can be tucked away for less used weeks.

I liked the spoon rest. Wasn't really clutter in my opinion, matched your other stuff. I Really want to take stuff off my counters but I have no place to put my appliances.

The spice cabinet does not appear to use the upper shelf; since that shelf is adjustable, why not raise the shelf enough to fit a full roll of paper towels? Raise the shelf, put in an extension rod (running through the paper towel roll), and you'll have room for your cooking oils as well. Likely, you can place your copper tea kettle on that upper shelf. Two problems solved, perhaps even three.

Knives in the lower cabinet when you have a baby is just not a good idea. Though your baby may not be able to access the cabinet now, he will be soon. Better to be safe than sorry in my opinion.

Doing the same with my counters this week. I could never put my coffee pot away. We use it two/three times a day. I do put toaster away. I put my paper towels away and we are trying paper napkins for awhile because I can keep them in cabinet Can you not adjust shelves in spice cabinet?
@HeatherMitchellxoxo4 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness, Karen, I don't know why I didn't think of that! Mom brain I guess. I've even adjusted my other cabinet shelves 🤦♀️I went and adjusted it right after reading your comment and the olive oil fits perfect now, thank you for the suggestion! I love the idea of paper napkins. We rarely use paper towels anyway.

You could have use if it fit the serving tray from the coffee for the toaster, I have a tray under my toaster and ordered a toaster cover, I had a big old blender and actually donated it and bought a nice small personal smoothie maker and its out on a microwave cart since we drink smoothies everyday .
