I am an interior designer. I buy only real wood because laminate always gets damaged. You could buy 2"x4" cut to size 3-4 lengthwise then 2 on the short ends and screw them together and attach the base. That way you have a sturdy top and the bottom gets salvaged.

Minimalism is different for everyone. The most general definition is living with the minimum that you need to be comfortable. So a student might only need 1 camera, but a videographer might need 20. Or an average hobbyist only needs a small set of paint, brushes and a few canvases but a painter needs an entire warehouse worth. Not only to live comfortably but to be able to work and do what you love

Because of their quality and simplicity. Also it's better to have their ecosystem (iOS and OS X) instead of Windows and Android.

No need to dump the 'kitchen/work table'. The framing for the table and bench look fine. Simply remove the tops and replace with real wood. Finish the wood with a clear varathane or similar finish and it will last for years and look very nice.

I've heard that apartments in NYC are very expensive and small. Your apartment looks fairly roomy and not that small. I live a 'minimalist' lifestyle, myself, and can fit everything I own inside my little Toyota hatchback, which includes my Japanese-made twin-size bed that folds nicely and fits in the car. I have a dog and she goes in the front passenger seat during these moves. I move to different places around the country about once a year, or two. My job allows this, which is nice. I'm just casually searching for that 'place' that feels comfortable and is also affordable. I thought about going to Brooklyn where I have a few friends, but the expense is a concern. The availability of prepared food 24/7, that New York City is known for, is attractive to a guy who doesn't like to cook. The past few places where I've lived are Connecticut, Arizona, Oahu, Kauai, the Florida Keys, Portland, Vancouver, Coeur d'Alene and currently West Palm Beach. I'm currently looking at Austin, for my next stop. I'm a bit Nomadic. Thanks for opening up your home for all of us to view. All the best!

Came back because of India's Instagram story. I really liked this apartment tour, but sometimes I'm not the best follower and just leave a like and no comment. But here it is: I love how you transformed this space - especially the living room and the nice pink wall in the office. And I love the motorized desk. My university where I'm currently studying as an exchange student has a few of those desks and I love them! The new furniture looks amazing, besides the Ikea table - it's practical but it doesn't fit 100% with the other stuff. But I know what a struggle it can be to find the right stuff. My favorite piece in the whole apartment has to be the fake furnace! And in my opinion it’s still minimalistic. It’s not overpacked but also not too empty and it looks homey :)

I think it might help if you mount the TV to the wall. Just to free up that little bit of extra space. It makes a huge difference. Home Depot sells a studless mount that allows you to basically hang it on the wall like a picture frame. You can also order one on Amazon that way you can't potentially violate your lease by drilling holes in the wall. All you'll need is a hammer and the pilot needles that come with it 👌🏽

For your standing desk you can screw a bracket under the table. Then place an extension cable with outlets and just connect everything to that outlet. Then you will only have one cable. There's also these wires that can tug all the cables to one. Let me know if if it works

For those of you complaing about how much he has and calling himself a "minimalist". You can be a minimalist with 100K items if you'd like. It's about only keeping what is important to you and being able to focus on the important things in life. Not fitting in to every one else's view of minimalism. Minimalism is what you make it.
