Arianna - could you at some point describe a bit of your journey as a mother, how you developed your philosophy and finding what works for you? I'm finding myself feeling kind of sad that my own parenting views were very unclear, including (especially) to myself and I'm heartened to noticed how much clarity you have. My youngest just finished 10th grade, but you never stop being a parent and I think I could learn a thing or two from you about how to form and act on my own opinions in positive ways.

I would probably just say no haha. It’s okay to tell kids no 🤪 They can have color in their room in lots of other ways, just like I already did in the older girls room! I had school bus yellow walls growing up and had to repaint them...so I know it’s not worth it 😂 Sure, things could change, but if it was anything it would probably like an accent wall.

Haha, I personally find it strange that parents expect their kids to go to bed at the same time every night. There is a reason they have trouble “getting their kids to sleep”. Adults aren’t tired at the same time every night, and neither are kids! It’s totally depends on the days activities :) children learning sleep regulation on their own is far more valuable! It’s probably why my two older girls have not really had any issues going to bed at night! They play until they’re ready and then hop in to bed on their own and go to sleep ;)
@samanthanietering22035 жыл бұрын
@@ariannapflederer We do the same time in his room every night, but don't expect him to fall asleep. Some nights he's asleep right away and others he plays for and hour and tucks himself in. Like you said it depends on the night. We don't fight it and I think that's what makes bedtime easier in everyone, and why there's never been a fight to get him to sleep. He's also never had a crib and went too a floor bed at 7 months after bedsharing.
@stacyfiguracion56555 жыл бұрын
@@ariannapflederer I see what you mean...but science sort of says otherwise about the bedtime thing. Melatonin regulates our schedule. We actually do get tired at the same time every day...as adults we just ignore it when we want to stay up later. However, with little kids we can lean into that hormonal shift and have a bedtime routine that helps trigger their bodies to know it's bedtime. I think a lot of montessori stuff is cool...but I have always sort of questioned the whole getting out of bed and playing thing. Not sure I can fully get on board with that. But that's okay because we are all different!

No, I do not. I talked about in the video that there are some things I’m not so fond of. Like oversheltering from electronics. It is our future and what most jobs will be when our kids are entering the work world. But I am a big advocate for no screens in elementary school and limited in middle and high school. food is nice there are safe ways to bedshare and lots of benefits. Statistically more babies die alone in their cribs than in beds with parents. Each parent has to do what makes them most comfortable and leaving my baby alone in the basset terrified me. I’ll do the same with future biological children. My foster babies go in cribs and I don’t sleep well at all... no sleep is more dangerous in my opinion. My pediatrician knew we slept with my son and has read the research on both sides. While it’s not the choice he made for his own family, he doesn’t try to scare people who do.

I love it but young children need to see lots of colour for their brain development
@ariannapflederer5 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. Your room is in large part for sleeping. Toys are colorful and the majority of their awake day they should be outside or in other parts of your home. My oldest had occupational therapy when younger and professionally speaking she said it was actually better for kids to have little color in their room as the stimuli keeps their brains going and doesn’t allow them to calm and relax. Lots of color in their room is not recommended by child professionals! I would say that in my experience it also rings true because while other parents have struggled with their children sleeping, we never really have. Despite giving them floor beds early with access to toys even. They have always chosen to play for a short while and then go to sleep on their own without issue :) their world is FULL of color, they don’t need it in their rooms where they should be sleeping 😉

She has more toys in other parts of our home. But that is it in her room! We keep minimal toys for our kids. I have lots of videos on my channel about minimalism and kids toys 🙂 she is a bit older now, so her toys aren’t all the same. She has her Hape activity cube, a shape sorting box, the Grimms stacker, the grimms nesting bowls, and 4 books. She typically wakes in the morning and plays for about an hour on her own before asking to come out 🙂 I wouldn’t suggest under storage if you are putting an infant in the bed. The floor bed is Montessori specific and very important to allow them to truly maneuver their entire room. It also would not be safe to have a raised bed for a smaller child as well ☺️

Baby’s aren’t minimalistic tho they like color and toys
@ariannapflederer5 жыл бұрын
Minimalism is about living intentionally, not a style. And yes babies like color, but child professionals actually say that a child’s room should not be full of tons of color and a lot of toys. Their bedroom is for sleeping. Natural colors like you see here help their brain to relax and go to sleep. Bright colors and too many toys keep their brain stimulated and make sleep more difficult! Their entire world is full of color and we obviously have toys elsewhere in the house. If you are focusing on your child’s room as their source of brain development when awake...I would be concerned. That means they are in their room way too much!
@Jill.McGlothlin425 жыл бұрын
I will never understand the point of being a minimalist? I love having decor all over my home and having things. Each to their own, but I just don’t get it.
@ariannapflederer5 жыл бұрын
Minimalism is about only having what you need to live intentionally so that you can focus on what really matters. If consumerism is more important to you, that is your choice :) it is not ours!
@Jill.McGlothlin425 жыл бұрын
Arianna. You do know you can have both? My family and my home is very important to me.
@ariannapflederer5 жыл бұрын
The issue lies in the feeling that things are important. They’re things. The need or want for things is societal. I don’t for a second doubt that you care about your family and I am sure you are a wonderful mother (father/wife/husband, not sure). But I know for me and countless others who are learning to move away from consumerism...we are able to spend more time with our family when we have less things. I clean less, I pick up less, I stress less. Research wise, kids also function much better, learn better, and play better. Anxiety has also been tied to too many things because your subconscious brain is focusing on too much. There is nothing wrong with having things, it’s the need for excess things that is the issue.
@juliaarnold10785 жыл бұрын
Overcomer i like minimalism because I function better in a more open and less cluttered space. I also like to spend my money on experience and things i feel that are important. I dont find most ‘things’ to be important. My happiest memories are things that i have done and experienced with my family. Not the things i own. I also have more freedom to buy higher quality items, that are usually more expensive. I spent a total of just under $5,000 on baby things the first time around. This includes nursery renovations and furniture. I have reused everything i have bought for all 5 of my children (this obviously excudes things that will eventually run out like nappy rash cream, baby food, baby paracetamol ect) it comes out to $1000 per child and i plan on having one more which will bring it down to $830 per child in the first year. Another thing is being able to relocate with ease. We have my bedroom, the nursery and the older 3 kids room, the play room, the living room, 2 bathrooms, 1 laundry and a kitchen. 8 rooms total. We have so little belongings that we could spend 1 hour packing each room and 30 minutes cleaning each room. That is 12 hours total so i could decided on a tuesday that i wanna go live somewhere else and we could be out by wednesday night and 100% unpacked in our new home by Thursday night. Minimalism gives you alot of choice and freedom.

I love it, but are those all of her clothes

No, haha. I just did the wash so they were in a basket. I did a video already on her wardrobe. She has 18 pieces 🙃

Does she need more clothes? Who is the baby dressing up for. No one. Babies don't need more than just a few pieces.

They were just washed, so they were in a laundry basket not yet put away. And as you can see we are minimalists, she has 18 pieces of clothing which is plenty!

would definitely recommend NOT having your dog in the bedrooms, especially your children's bedrooms. when i saw that he/she was lying on your babies play mat i couldn't help but feel my skin crawl. it is so unhygienic and very unsafe for your baby. domestic animals bring in all sorts of bacteria into the home, even if they only go outside to run around and use the restroom. please stop this for the sake of your children.but other than that i am in love with the minimal look and the simple beauty of the room!

The dog lays and walks all over the floors the kids crawl and play on. I’ll bet the rug gets washed way less than the bedding. And the kids play outside in the same grass and dirt the dogs do.

I’m not concerned. There’s a reason children with dogs in the house have less allergies and are sick less often :) three kids in now and it’s never been an issue 🤪

Darci Ní Cheallaigh You would hate to see what my baby will be coming home to then 😂 two big fox red labs that she’d like CRAZY! I can’t wait for my son to grow up with dog hair all over him! Being introduced to pet fur at a young age is good for children.

@@meganpeck1787 oh trust me i can imagine ahaha!! i grew up with a big German Shepherd and i truly believe that it is amazing for children to grow up with animals, especially big dogs as the stereotypes for big dogs are always so negative. i'm just trying to wrap my head around bringing an animal into a babies bedroom that's all, considering you have to be so careful with the sanitation of babies. i don't see any benefit from it. And in all honesty, it should also teach the dog to have a bit more respect, such as when animals go into the dining room or sit by a human's feet when they are eating. bounderies with aniamls are vital! :)

I have three dogs, one a Great Dane as well. And a since past service dog. So one of the most highly trained dogs you can have! So I am very familiar with dog training and what’s appropriate and what’s not. Parents are a little over the top now a days with sanitation, and unfortunately that’s why kids are constantly sick. Besides the most mild case of hand foot and mouth our kids have never had more than a cold and a few stomach aches! And since going vegan, no stomach aches (unless my second born has too much gluten because she is sensitive to it). I truly do appreciate your concern 🙂 but, this isn’t my first rodeo and I am confident seeing as my children’s immune systems have been far above their friends!
