@@alonashen5926 idk if there's a definitive definition - but for me, it has to do with getting rid of unnecessary stuff. This can also be in a two or three room apartment. Open space, no clutter. Emphasis on usability.

@@-Medici Thanks for your input I'm just wondering why many people don't consider this a minimalist home.
@IndigoChina4 жыл бұрын
@@alonashen5926 There are different types of minimalism (subcategories) and in different areas of life. For example, utilitarian minimalist would only have 20 or something pieces of clothing whereas a non-utilitarian minimalist could have 80 items of clothing. Perhaps, unlike the utilitarian minimalist, this person has to wear a lot of uniform for work but loves to dress up when theyre not in uniform. Perhaps they go on holiday to hot locations a lot, enjoy swimming or snorkelling often, perhaps they play a lot of sports or go hard at the gym.. all of these lifestyle differences would mean they could own more clothes compared to the utilitarian minimalist. They may find a lot of purpose and enjoyment in their clothes and fashion whereas strictly utilitarian minimalist doesnt. However, what these two minimalist have in common is that they have everything they need. Perhaps one of them may have a collection of clothes, books or whatever they adore however the rest of their life takes on a more utilitarian feel. They use what they have often and nothing is sat lying there, unused or unpurposeful. Minimalism is about decluttering yes, but it also doesnt have to be aesthetically bare. Thats a nice aesthetic that many strive for but, many people also forget that minimalism is a mindset and a lifestyle. You have the things you need and some things that bring you joy, but not in excess. Overall, minimalism is what you make of it but I personally wouldnt consider the place in this particular video minimalist. Its just small, somewhat organised and tidy. I enjoyed the video but, if I was critiquing, I spotted many areas that could have had a minimalist touch to it.

Minimalism does not mean empty. You define your version of enough, you get to define your level of gratitude. If you love holding physical books then you keep all your books or maybe pair down just a few. If you no longer use several kitchen appliances then you let those go. I love plants but I only have the discipline to keep up with 1, that’s my preference and anyone who chooses to live in a jungle is their business. “Use things, not people because the opposite never works” __ The Minimalists.
@CatchyCravings5 жыл бұрын
Amen! You are the first person to talk about minimalism in it's true essence here in the comments. It really IS very personal and is all about consuming consciously and using and buying without excess what THEY need and THEY are happy with. Thank you so much for this comment! I wish you all the best.
@willlexie4 жыл бұрын
I read so many mean comments in this video. Let me get this straight. MINIMALISM DOESN’T MEAN YOU HAVE TO GET RID OF EVERYTHING. 1. When someone decided to become a minimalist, it doesn’t mean that person have to get rid of everything that s/he bought before living as minimalist. If she (and her boyfriend) happens to have “many” shoes and “many” books, it could be the one that they bought before. 2. Being a minimalist can choose things that s/he doesn’t want to OR can’t give up. For example: If a person don’t want / can’t give up on physical books but give up on clothes, beauty products, foods, accessories, or any other things, that person is still minimalist. Not giving up on something doesn’t automatically means that person isn’t minimalist. 3. Minimalist isn’t about “having less” or “having smaller” or “poor”. Minimalist is a mindset of having enough, rethink before buying/having and conscious consumption. If you think ‘Ohh she has too many stuffs, means she’s not a minimalist’, please take 5 minutes on your smartphone to google more about minimalism and don’t be such a judgy person. *Thank you for sharing your beautiful apartment. I hope the negative comment won’t discourage you to be minimalist nor stop making contents.

Im sorry I keep commenting. A few ideas to help. Get a island/ table available at ikea it comes with drawers and place it in the actual kitchen space. The stools are stackable and fit under. This would free up so much room. Or if you don't want to do that at least turn the existing table flat against the wall. You would then have enough room to get a 2 cushion loveseat and coffee table set up to face the balcony you love but dont use. You can place the councel table directly behind the couch with the plants on top would look great from either side. The alcove used for your bedroom can be extremely romantic. Remove bookcases get a platform bed frame or just a standard 30 frame and have a real bed in the space with a tiny shelf on wall as a nightstand . Fill the wall with a mirror and art. Hanging plant. Separate the bookcases to make a wall into the space or doorway. Or a curtain could be hung as well and the bookcase be put on the wall where your art curently is. You can create under the bed storage for the shoe issue and 2 shower caddys for his and her toiletries. The bed down all day long made and looking pretty would be a nice place to read. Relax. I hate that you dont have that currently. A love seat as well just will add cozy feel you currently have no where to unwind i cant imagine that. It looks like office space not a home. Hope you see this and take some of my advice. Im studying interior design.

I would invest in a full time bed where the books are... you could hang shelves above the bed for most of those books... you’d also be able to store bins of books, etc under the bed.. Hello! Is it fine to sleep on the mattress only? I will be living in a micro apartment and would prefer to put the mattress up everyday. Hopefully being all day is enought for a mattress to “breathe”??
@CatchyCravings11 ай бұрын
yes, it is impotant to not keep your mattress on the floor all day, since moisture can stay trapped inside the mattress. So putting the matress up is a great solution :) or add a slatted frame unterneath, that way, it isn't direktly in contact with the floor and can breath :)
@rochellewilkins46873 жыл бұрын
It’s a cute place… well put together but instead of a huge book case, you need a Murphy bed with shelves attached to put some of your books as well as have a proper bed to sleep in. And maybe adding a few matching floating shelves on the bed area walls will ad more space for the rest of your books. That would double the functionality of your space. I love the space regardless but you deserve a bed sis! ✌🏾♥️

I like your apartment! Suggestion: have you tried looking at platform beds? Since its more elevated, the bottom part can be used as storage + bookshelf

I think it will not look bad if u put a full size bed. It will be ready to use anytime as for sleeping reading seating etc. It will be a sofa bed too.

The one thing that will sure eat a lot of space for my future house (or a house this small would) will be my book shelf. I will be needing a whole wall just for it.

Nice studio :) You can get rid of your allergies by going plant-based (particularly stopping dairy which we're just not made to consume) & not using harmful chemicals for house & personal hygiene. Wish you the best
@CatchyCravings4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! We actually do eat plant based and only use natural cleaning products (vinegar) and cosmetics :)

I suggest Murphy bed for your bedroom/living room. Other than that it’s very nice. Thank you!

I'm binge-watching your videos from your first video to your current one and of course no skipping of ads🤗as you make such great and useful videos and content. By watching ads, I think of it as a gift of appreciation for you, and if you have time, I hope you make an updated version of your past videos so that more people, especially the one who uses a filter for the upload date (This Year) if that makes sense, will see your amazing, useful, and inspiring past videos and discover you and your great channel and content.

Where did you get the box shelves with the snake plants sitting on top of it? Thanks.

I got the shelf at IKEA 5 years ago. But i wouldn't recommend IKEA Any more. The quality isn't great and I now prefer sustainably sourced solid wood furniture 😊

you have a great space for living room opposite to your bedroom,,, you can invest in some small sofa and a bed frame for your bed, where you can store more things underneath..

Great apartment, the kitchen/dining is just perfect. Love the terrace, sweet! IKEA makes several slim shoe cabinets that would fit nicely in your entry area, great way to conceal the shoe clutter. Also... have you considered a sofa bed? It would be a good solution; especially with built-in storage (affordably priced at Ikea). Nice place, good luck!
