Originally a 22m2 art deco apartment, Nanopad was redesigned to showcase it's unique features and better take advantage of it's shape. Floating and compartmentalised storage opened up previously closed in spaces, allowing the addition of a kitchen, and an extended battened bathroom. While still maintaining the art deco detailing inside.

I stayed in this apartment in 2018 (Airbnb) and it was AMAZING!!! Everything was incredibly designed and though out. I know it looks very small, and it is, but once you're in the space you can really appreciate the design. Such a cool apartment

People are being hella disrespectful in the comments. This architect took time out of her day to show us her work and people who are presumably not architects or co workers are insulting her. It's meant to be a short term rental living space (0:18), meaning that fine dining or other things that may be in a larger house are really not needed. Show some respect, it is nice to have your own opinion, but also be mindful of other people's feelings :)

I see many unfavourable comments, but I actually like it. The bed is very important, I do not like the fact that most people with small homes seem to put the sleeping area last. The bed is not only for sleeping. And the kitchen at the front door is an excellent idea.

I think its unfair to level so much criticism when the client’s brief isn’t considered or mentioned. If he/she asked for a space reminiscent of a luxury small hotel room (many of which are around this 22sqm size), then this a good & beautiful rethink of the space. If I wanted a pied a terre in the city where comfort and luxury were my priorities and not cooking or “studying” or even having proper meals, then this nails it! I find Murphy beds, and worse still sofa-beds, a tiresome way to continually re-arrange a room so that it serves multiple purposes for everyone to be satisfied, whereas this client clearly didn’t ask for a table/desk. I perhaps would have put some kind of fold-up workspace as I personally value a flat surface for eating or doing work and I total respect that many (including me) would find this arch over the bed to be bothersome. End of the day, its a good interpretation for a very awkward space

Yes. I agree with this. The room fit quite well with its owners intention - for short-term rental. The lack of a desk or dinning table is terrible for long term stay, not to mention the room doesn't even have a washing machine and the fridge is tiny. However the large permanent bed will be much more appealing than a Murphy bed for those who are seeking to rent the space for a week or so for vacation in the city and will not be cooking much. The archway is very difficult to work with really. It is more or less a hotel room equipped with a better kitchen.

@2028 JC you’re using the wrong words here, it’s not a bad design because it doesn’t fit the needs of any person. That’s not the purpose of this particular design. If it were the design for ALL the apartments in the building, then I’d agree with you. It’s not universal, meaning that it wasn’t designed with intentions to have many different end users who will have different preferences, and you need one design that will please as many people as possible as well as meeting their needs. This was designed for one client, in a space that both designer and client wanted to preserve as much as possible, leading to the design that was shown in the video

I don't think I liked this very much the first time I saw it, but looking at it again, I see the wisdom of it. The couch area looks a lot more comfortable than what is shown in many larger units on this channel. I believe this is the smallest unit on this channel. I also like that there's no foldaway furniture. You can also get all around the bed and nothing looks crowded. I cook a lot and I think the kitchen placement makes sense. I think a lot of the kitchens in these units are too big given how little space there is. You really don't need much space to cook in. I've prepared multiple course dinner parties in a kitchen with just a couple feet of bench space. I could see myself living here comfortably.

i looove the bathroom! also to everyone that commented the bed took too much space, i have a friend who works from home and most of the time she spent in her apartment is on her bed, be it sleeping, working, eating the dishes after she cooks them on her kitchen, all with the aid of a rolling desk over the bed. so i think there must be a solid reason on why the architect keeps the bed like that, most probably suited to the owner's needs and habits. IMO the bed looks cozy and inviting :)

For one or two, this is an ideal space. I love the TV low under the bed platform, that way entertainment is an event. Also, completely unbothered by the sleek kitchen greeting you first thing. That looks like a party! Or snacks! Haha I could imagine unwinding in this space after work and lounging lazily all weekend 😊 Also, the bathroom is fit for a queen with all that storage!!!

I used to live in a similar sized apartment in this building and LOVED it. My place was super simple, just a bed in the room and that was about it. But the building was so cool! I would design this differently. It looks really nice, but I don’t know about living in it full time... A Murphy bed would be a better option to free up lounge space, and I would love a desk by the windows where I could work. Kitchen in the entry is perfect for me. The least used room tucked away.. Love the bathroom!

"We thought it was really important to be able to sit back (on the couch) and look out of the widows." Why? You're going to be blinded during the day when you watch TV, and you have a much better view of the outside if you sit on the windowsill. Also, there's no table to eat from or place a coffee cup, so it's really odd to have a kitchen with a stove in the first place. Honestly, placing a bed in the middle of the apartment was a mistake.

@iXoXoMaddi
@iXoXoMaddi 6 жыл бұрын
pixelbasedlifeforms a good sleep is so important. You spend 7-9 hours in your bed sleeping (maybe you snooze your alarm so maybe even more hrs). And you might work. You get ready in the morning and evening (time spent in the bathroom), you prepare some meals (kitchen-time). The litte rest of time is spent either in the living room OR outside (friends, restaurants, walks). That’s how i evaluate it. Also i think it would bother me „unfolding“ my bed every evening and bring it back up in the morning. So i understand why they did it. That’s the good thing about architecture: it serves everyone’s unique needs. 😊

As someone that's also currently designing my own 24m² appartment, I have also purposely decided to let my bed take up a big part of my space Simply put if u do not need or want the extra space for anything else, why not leave the bed out as some kind of decoration, to me at least, a room without a bed feels empty, wheras a room with a nice bed in it feels really cozy and bedroomy The goal of these "tiny appartments" isn't to save up as much space as possible while still keeping it modern and stuff, it's simply to create a comfortable and modern place of living for that one person who will need it Also not everyone likes modulable stuff (such as me cause I'm a lazy fuck)

Depends on whether you like murphys. I personally prefer coming home to a fully made bed, rather than having to get it out of the cupboard. I had a fold out couch once in my 15 m2 student appartment and never ever folded it up, because I hated it so much. So basically I could have just bought a bed for much cheaper ... I don't mind the bed right in the middle of the room, I had a much bigger problem with the plywood on the wall with the windows. I get plywood in modern spaces, but it just isn't one of those asthetics that goes well mixed in with art deco I guess. Probably different if the original house had been a bauhaus 😅

This kitchen location would not be permitted in the UK as it breaches health and safety regulations. Huge fire risk I’m afraid.

Great architect who can create a geat living space in a nano space. Well done keeping the art deco, but modernizing it too. 😊

trial tr - If you’re referring to the way the lady is speaking, I think you’ll find it’s her accent; I’m fairly sure she has an Australian accent, same as myself. Our speech tends to rise at the end of our sentences, making it sound like we’re asking a question. If this isn’t what you meant, please forgive my misunderstanding. :)

It may just be me but I really do like the design of this space. For a short-term rental, I'd rather stay in a space like this than a full fledged apartment, or any hotel. It looks so zen!!

It's a very challenging space. I would have put the living space closest to the windows, as that would utilize windows the best. Bedroom can go without windows as darkness is good for sleep. Put the bed along the wall where the painting is. Rip out the wall opening.

Since this is a secondary apartment in the city, I think it is well done. Chances are, the kitchen will not get a lot of use. I would also assume the occupant is wanting more of a hotel-like experience. All work will be done in the office. Dinner out at a restaurant and then coming into this space to rest, relax and shower. My assumption would also be that dirty laundry would be carried home on the weekend where their social life exists. It isn’t suitable as a full time abode.

I actually like it. there's no need for a table if she doesn't use one! Not having an entrance and saving the space for the kitchen is weird, but its ok!!! you already enter a building and your floor. From the inside, the kitchen looks very good.

Why is the bathroom so big when they only have a shower and toilet ?!? Wasted space could have made the kitchen bigger don’t like how the kitchen is locked away. They could have designed it so their is a raised floor and the bed is hidden under the raised floor saving on space for the living room

The bed takes a good chunk of the main area of the apartment. I could see if the bed was elevated high (like a bunk bed) and giving more space in the living area, like having a office area underneath the bed with some shelves and have some space for a dining table.

the design solution here is genius! sorry to disappoint you guys who think that the designer "failed", but the world doesn't revolve around you lol it may not fit to *you*, but it will fit to many other people who really value the availability of a bed more than a kitchen.

the kitchen in the front of the door...hmnn... it feels lonely. but i loved the living area and how it was connected with the bedroom and bathroom. now that was beautiful work. My favorite part was all the natural lighting!!. And then the floating furniture and all the hidden lights to make the rooms feel a bit bigger. I loved this area!!

I created my studio apartment 25 sqm very similar. I wanted to looks like a luxury hotel room with big bed and nice white luxury bedding and lots of oversize mirors. And is works for me.I live in my apartment last 11 years. Is actualy much easie to made a bed every morning and keep place nice and tidy - then have some folding sleeping bed or sofa and lot of furniture around.
