Safe travels, just found your channel. Hope you’re not anywhere near China right now. I hope before you took your trip, that you pared down your packing list. The Bose headphones (canceling headphones) seem bulky. There are noise canceling earbuds available.
@Sarahstratttv4 жыл бұрын
Hi thank you for your message!! I love my Bose headphones, I don't mind that they're bulky. :) Worth it to me. I also have my airpods for when I am at the gym etc, but I use my Bose ones for everything else including editing videos at cafes etc. I am not traveling at the present moment, I strongly advise everyone to stay inside their homes for the next several months and avoid traveling at all costs. I have been self-isolating at my home in London UK for the past few weeks and will continue to stay here until it's safe again. I actually accumulated more things, a 40 litre backpack was not nearly enough for me, I learned that very fast and I do explain in other videos why it didn't work for me! Turns out I am not a minimalist! HA! I love to have the proper care for myself, and it didn't work trying to be someone I am not, so to each their own. Stay safe right now in these trying times, stay inside and absolutely do not travel. Watch travel videos instead and plan future trips to take once this all settles down! :)

I think you won the prize for most minimal capsule wardrobe! I love the Osprey backpack, my hubby has an Osprey about that size but it’s a rolling luggage, made very well. If I was 40 yrs younger I’d be a digital nomad, but that was unheard of in the 80’s. I’d get my 2-3 weeks paid vacation every year and that was it. I envy everyone that can travel full-time. 👍🏼😊

I know several people who travel with their kids! I'm not a parent, so it's easier for me to pick up and go, but I imagine that one day if I have kids then I would still want to travel and explore too! Maybe homeschooling while traveling? and staying in places for longer periods of time instead of jumping around from place to place too much? That might help with her having some stability!

What did you do if the Hostels were fully booked?
@Sarahstratttv5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your support and for watching!! I do have several spare batteries! For each different electronic piece I brought 3 batteries. So there are always 2 back up ones that are fully charged. I have also since filming this acquired a GoPro too! And as for Hostels and the Airbnbs I stayed in- I made to to book things well in advance. I wasn't traveling like a 'backpacker' per say. I was pre-planning everything and I also rented airbnbs with the entire apartment to myself and stuff so I could feel at home as well! I stayed in Florence for 5 weeks at a 1 bedroom airbnb alone! It was amazing!

You are able to bring one purse and one carry on bag, so I consider my backpack as a purse and the bigger backpack was my carry on. @@Sarahstratttv Oh really, I had no idea. That sure change things! Thanks for answering

Joyosagsm you do need to be mindful though because not every airline will allow you to have both a personal item and a bag. Especially the smaller domestic flights in Europe. 25 underwear?? Girl, seems like alot to manage😅. Unless they are "disposable" undies. I feel like 14 is plenty. U can usually wash a 3- a handful ever few days in a bathroom or with a "Scrubba"(Google it-amazing) you can wash all of your clothes and then air dry over night or for a day. I like Exofficio sythethics(super short dry time) or merino wool bras and undies like from Icebreaker(short dry time & the comfy bras never feel dirty but wash every few days). Merino wool in general is amazing for travel and naturally antibacterial. Safe travels. I love that little hairdryer! I wonder if they make a tiny hair dryer with the brushes so u can do a blowout and not take a separate big brush.

Then I stayed at Airbnbs, either private rooms or rented out entire apartments for long haul stays.

Wealthy Optimist Sounds like you were just a North American who could not let go of her comforts. No judgment, it is difficult for me too but you just have to embrace it. I have been told that! I actually worked on Once Upon a Time with her and they wanted me to. be her stunt double but I was far too tall for her unfortunately!

Patricia Ferreira I definitely will be coming to Portugal! I’m thinking in the spring I’m going to do Spain, Portugal and a few other beautiful places in the area. What are some good spots to see in Portugal?
@tichaferreira6 жыл бұрын
Sarah Hall • Wealthy Optimist well I am from the north from one city near the sea Viana do Castelo. From there you can take a train to Porto. I recommend you to visit Porto and Lisbon. From Lisbon you can go for a day trip to a magic place Sintra where you can visit a Castel and Palace. And if you would like to go to good beaches in the south visit Algarve

I have traveled to 9 countries. I have one recommendation. MODESTY is the best policy. People in foreign countries have much contempt for Americans because they dress too casual, with tank tops and jeans with unhemmed and torn areas. Too much skin showing. Churches, museums and other places require modest clothing, arms covered and sometimes a scarf for covering the head.

I’m not American.

@@Sarahstratttv the advice is still good though isn't it? Lots of people in the west dress very differently and wear "beach attire" when it's inappropriate. I'm an anthropologist and been doing field work with other folks who didn't understand that just because they got hot and sweaty didn't mean they could take off shirts and show bare skin. The solution was to wear MORE clothes to protect ourselves from the sun, rather than less, to take more breaks, and to drink more water. I'm sure you know all that now, but I'm just saying 🤷♀️.

Do you not own ANY childhood mementos? Where’s your high school diploma? No other sentimental clothing is being stored anywhere? Did you throw away all your baby photos, pictures of friends and precious family photo albums? I don’t think so! It’s hard to believe that you don’t have personal items stored at a relative’s house or storage unit somewhere
@Sarahstratttv5 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you for your comment Lisa! I do explain in the video that there are several sentimental items I couldn't part with stored at my mum's house in the basement. I am an extremely sentimental person, and I went through everything and got it down to the minimum and stored those precious things in long term safe storage boxes at my mum's! Hope this helps answer your question, and I do explain it in the video!

I can understand everything but not the fact that this video is called “minimalist travel”. Lol you packed like a ton of unnecessary stuff and you call this minimalistic? ...
@Sarahstratttv5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your opinion Leonarda! Everyone has a different view on what is 'necessary' to them. There are things that I would consider very important, that you may not care to bring- and that works both ways. I am sure everyone has their own opinion on what is important to them when going traveling for a long period of time. :) Everything I packed was essential to me, and packing everything in a 40L backpack is very minimalist for myself. I am sure other people would also have a different opinion on what minimal is for them as well. Perhaps minimal to one person is bringing only 10L of stuff, and for another person it means bringing 100L of important things. Thank you for watching and sharing your insights! Great way to look at it from other's point of view :) Happy New Year! xx
