If you’re building the MinimumRC BAE Hawk Red Arrow my assembly video will help, especially if you’re new to building in foam, Part Two of the build is linked here: • MinimumRC BAE Hawk Red... and at the end of Part One. The instructions on the MinimumRC website are brilliant but in conjunction with my video you’ll end up with a cracking model. Here’s the link to the product page of the model: www.minimumrc.....

I’m writing this while still watching your build. I build one about 1985, after having seen in Germany on an RC airshow, ordered one from England some university city, I don’t remember which one. It was a Red Arrows Hawk Mk 2, fuselage glasfiber, wings styrofoam covered with Abachi wood, I think. It took me about a month to finish it with a 10 cc Thunder Tiger engine, about 3,5 kilogram, wingspan about 135 cm, length about 90. It only flew once because of bad mixture in the engine, but oh I loved that plane, it’s the last one I ever built. But boy have things changed now. One almost needs a magnifying glass to see what we’re doing

On those ply servo mounts I like to take the screws out, put a drop of CYA in the hole and put the screws back in. Really makes the plywood more durable but minimal weight.

I built my balsa Min RC L19 Birddog in early December. Its been sitting & waiting for its trim flights here in the Catskills of NY. Pretty soon we will have weather conducive to flying. I did strenghten the wing to fueslage connection during my build because I am not a good enough flier to gurantee I don't wing in the grass a bit on landing. I also laminated a thin skin on the curved top of the rear fueslage. The later being so far from the CG inspite of weighing little required more weight to be added in the motor bay than I really wanted to be needed, but once added a tossed flight back in December went well. My only worry now is do I have to swap motors for a bit more power due to the added weight. Time will tell but it does look pretty & I am hoping it rivals the rubber powered Flying Machine I turned into a motorized RC plane with micro electronics for being an early morning, no wind, step out the back door, flight experience.

They say what ever weight you add at the tail takes four times the weight in the nose to balance and I can quite believe it. The funny thing is a very light aeroplane is delicate but it has no momentum so it doesn't break as easily, the opposite is true ... the more you strengthen a model the more strengthening it needs! If you have to add weight better to add a heavier motor (or battery) instead of ballast but whatever happens as long as the cg is correct it'll just fly faster ... funny old game model aeroplanes, have fun, cheers

@@CliffHarveyRCPlanes The Minimoa Sailplane was my first build. It has a fairly large wing and a long single plywood spar to attach and support the wing. In a dead stick landing into tall grass that was not more than a fast walk the plywood spar on the right side sheared off. Since then, given the amount of time one spends on doing a nice build, I don't rely strictly on their design in my construction. I have a tad of civil engineering education and can't help but notice the wing to fueslage connection is similar to a cantilevered beam and is subject to large shearing or bending stresses thus I add more section modulus to this connection by using what would be called a moment connection consisting of a plate of material, balsa or foam, that extends beyond the joint in both directions.

Used to fly glow/blasa RC aircraft many years ago, had been looking for something like a mixture of airfix but also EDF or similar, kind of wish I had not seen these now given all the other half finished projects I have (cars/campers/house lol), but I can see me buying a handful of these kits to add to the hoard, about time someone was making kits like these. Subscribed btw. :)

Great video! quick question. for regular servos 5-9grams I use a centering boards that I got online. Now, for this small servos with a pin so small, how do you center them? do you just connect a battery on the receiver and check like that? i was thinking on making an adapter from the regular servo style plug to the plug type used on the micro type of boards (don't know if they already sell those type of adapter cables).
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 9 ай бұрын
Hi Marc, because the rc equipment is inaccessible after the model is built it has to be connected to the receiver therefore it's all centred and ready for connection to the flying surfaces 🙂👍

Hello, I would like to ask a few questions about some of the minimum rc planes, if you would like to answer them: First of all, I have bought a few mini rc planes kits over the years(foam and blasa wood, and I have always struggled with flying them because they were always too heavy with the electronic that came with them, because I always made sure I was building them perfectly. So I wanted to ask if this have ever been the issue with some of the minimum rc planes, and if so, what did you do to get them to fly better? And if not, what mini rc plane would you reccomend from them? And would you reccomend buying a full kit from them with electronics? I have other rc planes that works wonderfully, but I have never been able to build a mini rc plane and have it worked well.

The packaging was disappointing. Could have been more robust. One set of 3D printed parts for the motor mount and ducting were crushed in the post between China and Australia. It's just as well that I ordered two BAE Hawk kits! I managed to order the kits without the receivers that I needed so I have started one kit but am stalled until the Spektrum compatible receivers arrive. It would have been a comforting if extra screws for holding the servos and servo control arms had been included with the kit. The screws are fiendishly small. Apologies to Minimum RC for any offence caused by these negative comments. I am keen to get on with the build particularly since it seems to have been raining forever here in Southwest Sydney and "cabin fever" is starting to set in!
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes
@CliffHarveyRCPlanes 7 ай бұрын
Hi Anthony, to be fair the boxes are pretty robust but the ducting parts are more vulnerable how they are packaged, short of packing the components in a wooden box I don't know how you could negate for bad post handling, that's bad luck! Yes the screws are very small a good tip is to assemble those components in a tray using a magnetic screwdriver and minimizing therefore any risk of losing them. I can appreciate the pain and going a little bit crazy in the workshop ... we've just started to get our spring and it's very welcomile indeed after a long time, cheers 🙂👍

For this build I use medium ca from Toolstation for the ply parts, for the foam I use UHU POR, Ebay if you can't find it elsewhere (it unsticks well using lighter fluid) and for other modelling balsa to balsa and to ply I'm using a white glue called Speedbond from Deluxe materials and 15 minute two-part epoxy by Zap (Z-Poxy). Everyone has their favourite but these four serve me well, cheers
