Minister class strike craft firing 'Scorpion' missiles [SAN]

With the arrival of the strike craft, a strike craft flotilla was formed in 1977 under the command of Captain Glen Syndercombe. This flotilla was renamed SAS Scorpion in 1980. The flotilla was formed into two squadrons in 1985, with 4 ships being in service at one time in Squadron 1 and two in service with Squadron 2, which was based in Simon's Town.

3 was stationed at Simon's Town and 3 based out of Salisbury Island, Durban. Today the remaining vessels is based in Durban as part of the SAN offshore patrol flotilla.

Three decommissioned Warrior-class strikecraft were refurbished by SA Shipyards and recommissioned as offshore patrol vessels (OPVs). SAS Galeshewe was decommissioned in 2020. Today only SAS Makhanda & SAS Isaac Dyobha is currently employed with anti piracy patrols.
