Ministry made a live video of this tour. It's called, In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up. It's amazingly good. Worth checking out on your own.

Nick, you are probably going to laugh at this ... Al Jorgenson used to DJ a country music night on Wednesdays at a bar called the Crash Palace on Lincoln Av. in Chicago in the early 90's. Not a big club but a bar, probably 30' by 100'. We would go occasionally not because we liked Country music but because it was Al Jorgenson. We would all be out on the dance floor on those occasional weekend nights when we were clubbing and All Day or Every Day is Halloween came on at 3:30 am. Coming out of the club and getting into a cab in the summer daylight at 5 am meant that the coming day would be a very long day! We are all old now and SVPs or EVPs at financial services companies so those days are long over but it was a lot of fun and we glad we have those memories.

Hell yes!! This is so badass! First time I heard these guys was the song ‘Stigmata’ off the 1988 album that came out just before TMIATTTT, called The Land of Rape and Honey. It blew this metalhead’s mind! That tune, ‘Just One Fix’ and ‘N.W.O.’ are all perfectly insane. Cheers!

Looking forward to seeing Ministry live next month for the first time in my life. Been a fan of them since the 90s. These samples all come from Full Metal Jacket - an incredible film (but I do love all Stanley Kubrick films that I’ve seen). Love to see the reaction for a first time listener. Key thing about most of the heavier music, like industrial and punk: the message. Industrial in particular tends to make use of sounds from things not designed as instruments (drills, hitting corrugated steel etc). It is drum heavy, with electronic and rock mixed.
@hellokimie Жыл бұрын
I would say Stigmata is a signature song.

Also...Ministry concert was the only mosh pit I ever backed out of. The crowd ultimately ended up moshing around a pile of burning blankets (lawn seats)...I had to back out 'cause I thought someone was gonna get pushed into the flames.

There newer stuff is sooo0o0o 🔥 too! The album "AmeriKKKant" that came out after Trump was elected was executive produced by Da Bomb Squad (Public Enemy, KRS-One, Ice Cube, etc) & they added a turntablist/DJ to the band. Check out the songs "Twilight Zone", "Victims Of A Clown" or "Wargasm". Amazing album.

By the end of the 80's punk had long gone and it's children the goths were pretty gone. Early 90's this new type of metal punk rap caught all of us. Just one fix was my favourite.

Not a drill. It's a camera. Industrial has 5 main features: drum loops, repetitive guitar riffs, electronic noises, sound samples and the mighty vox.

Industrial uses a vox, which makes the vocals.
@antichristian744 ай бұрын
“vox” just means vocals. he used distortion, a harmonizer and often delay and chorus to get his vocal sound. the harmonizer was what would double his voice lower to get more of a growl. some times he would run a cranked/maxed out compressor running into another compressor to get the distortion. this would allow him to talk normally without distortion, but when he yelled it would distort heavily. delay gives echoes and the chorus would give the warbling/underwater effect.

"Industrial" started getting used by impactful bands, in the '90s. Mostly: terribly. Nine Inch Nails (Trent Reznor) "commercialized" the sounds and textures, for "the youth of the day." ...and Ministry [which was Al Jourgensen, yes, but, the band would not have become what it was without the addition of: Paul Barker and Bill Rieflin [drummer]. Barker and his brother were in The Blackouts (out of Seattle), with his brother. The Blackouts were being produced by Jourgensen and, effectively, he allowed the band to dissolve and took Paul Barker (the bassist!) into the fold. "Thieves" is, absolutely, "the primary" song (or one of) by this band. If someone made a Ministry playlist w/o "Thieves", "Stigmata" and "N.W.O." on it, most people wouldn't recognize wouldn't recognize shit on it! REAL Industrial music is: Throbbing Gristle; Einstürzende Neubauten; Test Dept. ... arguably: Cabaret Voltaire. It is based on what Iggy was inspired by, in The Stooges: Mechanical sounds! ...As you read: the first Ministry album [With Sympathy] -which Al has LONG hated & almost denied the existence of (with a different partner: no Paul Barker)!- is actually, EXCELLENT, on its own. The 12" es they started making ["Every Day Is Halloween " is a huge one. A "goth party necessity".] and, then, the album: Twitch (which preceded the "Industrial" sounds & textures [those began with: Land Of Rape & Honey (the album preceding this one.)]. Trent official introduced the public to the ideas, but: Ministry were first and, just, bashed people in their faces with their shit!🔥🔥💜 I recall putting this song on in a car, in '89 and people in the car demanding the car get stopped and leaving the vehicle. Literally! 🤘🤘 "Thieves" was the heaviest thing out, at the time. Death Metal and Grindcore were, basically, "trying to catch-up" to this, here. 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘

B.T.W.: The touring (and, occasional, studio) drummer of this late-'80s/early-'90s period of this band [Ministry], was, ABSOLUTELY, "the secret" to this band. BILL REIFLIN. 💜💜💜💜🤘🤘 [Jourgensen's abusive nature and addiction to numerous drugs, caused him to leave the outfit - after which he, actually, became R.E.M.'s second drummer, for a long period of time.🤷 -Seems crazy, right?]. Sadly, Bill Rieflin was taken, too early, from us, in 2020 [along with: Neil Peart and Sean Reinert]😭😭😭... Billy Rieflin and Paul Barker were one of the tightest rock rhythm sections of all-time! 🤘🤘
@SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra Жыл бұрын
Your "opinion" is, absolutely, wrong, Nick. 100%: As any actual Ministry fan will tell you: Signature MINISTRY tracks include: THIS one ["Thieves"]. "Stigmata" and "N.W.O." (among others). also: "Every Day Is Halloween" (from the "interim period" -between "synth-pop" and "industrial metal") ...also, maybe: "Effigy" (from their debut: With Sympathy.) 🤷 Throbbing Gristle (effectively) "started" "industrial music" (likely, also, influenced by: "musique concréte"(. Einstürzende Neubauten, effectively, "established" it as a valid, worldwide, "style" (later expanding their musical styles beyond it!). Test Dept. (and, maybe, Cabaret Voltaire) "developed the sound." The first band to flirt with the contextual sounds of "industrial" were, really: The Stooges [who quoted the ideas of "factory sounds" and so-forth, as inspirations to them and their music -although not directly employing "tools" or "factory noises," etc. in their compositions!] (although, of course, most people associate The Stooges with the creation of: "Punk Rock " and (the later) "hardcore punk") and, much later: Killing Joke (who started to employ digital keyboards and the sounds those could make, in their, dirge-y, metal-influenced, pseudo-punk, music). The first ones to, really, bring it to "public consciousness" were: Nine Inch Nails and (following the success of Reznor's "melodic industrial" styles): Ministry - although, of course, Ministry, as an outfit, really preceded Trent's N.I.N. Skinny Puppy preceded both of those modern industrial-influenced outfits. Yes Similar outfits who came-up (but had less success, commercially -meaning: outside of the niche markets which: Industrial, Goth and other "darker," often "computer-based"/"sequencer-based" styles of music.) just before, or simultaneously (to MINISTRY & N.I.N.) were: Front 242, Meat Beat Manifesto; Front Line Assembly (arguably) ...but then the: everyone must make angry or depressing music, "thing" hit and, all-of-a-sudden, you could, probably find a guy with a sequencer & a drum machine, at your local pub (trying to program "depressing dance tracks")...🤷🤷
