For those saying it’s not white, I don’t think you’re realizing how this would look on the tabletop. The eye catches light on something this small in very odd ways, so in order to make it look more realistic, it needs those dark shadows. Without the exaggerated grays the hood would look lifeless when not holding the mini to your face or zoomed in via a camera. I think it’s one of the best “white” paintings I’ve seen.

Right. Because I'm sure most of the people watching this have never painted a mini before, and certainly have never seen what one looks like on the tabletop. @_@ This hood's going to look grey under anything other than ultra-bright fluorescent lighting, and that only because it would wash out the whole mini. It looks nice, but white it ain't.

John Kidby I completely understand most people watching this have probably painted a mini, I was only pointing out that what something looks like on camera or up close often is not the same on the shelf or tabletop. This seems to have a more lifelike white to me at miniature levels than almost any other white I see. Nearly every "white" miniature I see is covered in plain white with streaks and brush strokes. This essentially ensures the eye picks up the form and detail really well while still giving the illusion of white. This is similar to the styles that use grays, blues, and purples to identify a miniature in "black". There's absolutely no need to be so divisive and negative about this technique.

Not trying to be negative - as I said, I think it looks nice. It just doesn't look WHITE. It's a near miss, but I think it skews too heavily towards grey, particularly on the large side "panels" (for want of a better word). It's a tricky balance to strike, which is the main reason that white's such a notoriously difficult colour to paint. I'm just trying to give some honest criticism, which I would hope that a fellow painter would be big enough to take under consideration for next time. Always room for improvement, and all that.

Looks nice, but it doesn't look white. Too much deep shadow. More of a blue-grey finish I'd say.

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

Looks good, but not white, almost more of a NMM grey, to much shadow next to highlight for cloth IMO.
