My buddy found Hirst Arts a few years back, I bought some castings from him and we made some pretty increadible terrain pieces. I wish I had some pictures to put up or a vid, but I stand by these molds for sure.

I appreciate how simple you made it. Makes it seem much more doable and less than the pain in the butt I thought they would be. Can anyone share their experiences with painting them up and possibly quick and easy methods to do that? That would be great.

If you sieve the plaster into the water it also helps reduce air bubbles.

There's some really great tips in this video. For my own experience with moulds and casting, getting the bubbles out is the most nerve wracking and obnoxious part of the process. Typically, I'd pour the mould and then shake it, which frees the trapped air. But pounding on the table while pouring plaster into small moulds is a really great plan. Sad to say, it would never have crossed my mind if it wasn't for this video. Thanks!

Candies? They're like the LEGO candies!!! Thats awesome. I wish you would have shown the scraping and stuff.. It wasn't entirely clear...pretty clear..But I don't want to screw up if I ever try. Thanks

another good way to get the bubbles out is to leave the molds on a vibrating table as they are setting these are expensive though so if you like cheap stuff you have two options you can steal a vibrator and fashion your own vibrating table (expect the owner of the vibrator to get pissed at you) or a less life threatening solution is to place the molds on top of a tumble dryer whilst its in use

@Totallydistortedfilm yes wet-water is a mixture of jet dry and water to lower the viscosity of water and lubericate the mold

@cyberakuma666 A cheap electric toothbrush worked really well for us. But we used dental stone not hyrdocal. The dental stone is really tough, but super heavy. Our octogonal tower fell off the pool table and we had 1 chipped block and just had to reglue the two halves together. Weldbond glue is a must. Good bonding strength. Don't forget to sand the blocks a bit if they are a little high.

i LOVE the hirstarts moulds, I have 33 of them. Damn exchange rate sucks right now, I really 'need' to get some of the others!!! WOW, you leave them for an hour before you de-mould! Use hydrostone man, it sets up in 15-20 minutes depending on ambient temperature.

I just use my hair trimmer for my resin castings. I lay in on its side on the table, it vibrates it like hell. Too bad I live in an apartment, otherwise i could have it going for alot longer. Still have have almost no problems with bubbles, and i don't cast under pressure or anything
