hey thanks so much for the one of a kind video here, helps those who first time potential buyers like me, get some kind of idea... I do a lot of research before buying. Thanks again.

Thinking about buying one of these. Thanks for the heads up! I too am worried about it being too long in the shaft.

Great video! Your jeep battery is probably about 55 amp-hr. Medium duty deep cell marine battery is typically 95-110 AmpH. Recommended not to discharge more than 50%. I pushed 1300 lb, 21' sailboat with my 27lb minn kota at 75%. No current or head wind.

Wouldn't the draw reading be 'slightly' different if the motor was pushing the weight of a boat through water, and not just the weight of the water in the garbage can?
@rickw91692 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course it would. The idea that you can get a true measurement of amp draw in a bucket of water is nonsense. All the motor is pushing is water. If this were the case, boat weight to trolling motor size would not matter....

How long would the charge on the battery last let's say at an average use at 50 to 60 %?

Hi there arne, thanks for uploading the video.quick question. We have a big canoe.3 people with gear everthing lets catch 1000 pounds lbs .we go fishing for fun in sea. Usually we row. Planning to get this motor.at half speed is it fast enough and strong enough to move us for 6 miles?? What do suggest?? Will it stand mild winds and waves of the sea???
@arnehansson81789 жыл бұрын
Meril Mathew Hi Meril, according to Minn Kota website a 45 lb thrust motor should be adequate for up to ~2000 lb boat weight. I would think this would do the job for you. Shaft would likely need to be shortened for a canoe. The distance you can cover all depends on battery amp hour rating and how fast you run the motor plus wind/current/tide. At full speed this one draws ~42 amps so even with a 100 AH deep cycle battery and a 50% draw down you would get a little over an hour at full speed. I should think you could drive a canoe at much less than flat out from the motor and get a lot more life from the battery. Hope this helps.
@drumskas7 жыл бұрын
that's where I'm confused. if it draws 42amps an hour, shouldnt a 100 AH deep cycle battery give you a little more than 2 hours instead ? I might be using the wrong logic here, I dont know, I hope you can help me again.
@hamiltobergeran53056 жыл бұрын
it only draws 42 amps at full power but curiously at half power it was only drawing 10. must go up exponentially near the 100 (full power)
@artsmith1036 жыл бұрын
With typical 12.6V battery 5amps is about 0.1hp. That's about the strength of a human. So figure 5amps per paddler equivalent. Matching 2 paddlers and using a typical 110ah marine battery you'll be good for at least 5 hrs. I did some calculations that 10amps would be about 1.75knots. So 5 hrs = a little over 9 miles. A few assumptions in those calculations.

Hi, Thank you for uploading the video! Would like to know what's the amp draw at 75% and 100% speed?
@arnehansson81788 жыл бұрын
+linus631 Linus 631, I don't have a figure for 75% but 100% is ~42 amps.
@doctorxring7 жыл бұрын
Yes, other tests on KZbin for this motor at full throttle indeed shows 42 amp draw run in AIR. But under load it will draw less. Your water test shows 12 amp draw while same test in AIR will draw over 20 amps. If you could run an amp draw test on the water at full speed that would be great !

@@arnehansson8178 100% on my 45 Endura max freshwater version is 31 amps measured by me on my inflateable. 42 amps is quoted in the manual as "max current draw", but that is "max surge current when you hit some weeds or thrust from zero boat velocity (instantaneous only), not max continuous amperage on 100% throttle". Minnekota quoted figures do not represent amp draw at 100% throttle. I can confirm the 31 amps from another KZbin I saw...its exactly what I got. And I got the same out of both battery packs (lithium iron) that I tried.
@FirstLast-ml7yf5 жыл бұрын
@@doctorxring No way that is right. Max current in air won't be much over 2 amps on any throttle setting. I get 31 amps in saltwater on my endura max 45 freshwater...probably same internals as this.I run the freshwater version in salt, with an anode on the prop.

How long does this trolling motor last you? I'm assuming that you're not going full throttle because I purchased this exact motor with the digital maximizer technology and from looking at your amp readings, if I use the trolling motor at a speed of no more than 50%, I should be able to get at least 10 hours easily on a 100ah battery. Am I right to assume this?
@arnehansson81788 жыл бұрын
+TheBeezy562 Hello Beezy562, Many factors are going to effect your run time and battery life (short and long term). I assume you saw me say that at ~50% on the speed control that the motor is drawing ~10.5 amps implying that you might get ~9.5 hours of run time with a 100Ah battery. (Reminder: At full power this motor draws ~42 amps.) Clearly this is possible but not advisable. Drawing even a high quality deep cycle battery below ~50% of rated capacity discharge repeatedly is not the way to maximize life of the battery. I can see why this Video has so many thumbs down. Its another incomplete current test video , one of dozens of click bait type disappointing videos here on KZbin. Tip a current test is not a current test if you do not test max current . You are testing its half current draw. The title should be - partial current test lmao
