I have been around boats all my life, but I haven't owned one for quite a while. My experience is for freshwater, though. My grandfather owned a marina on Lake Jordan in Alabama. I have replaced the gear box on the foot of a trolling motor a couple of times. I could order the part from a local auto parts store. I guess everything now is made to be disposable, except that cast iron cookware, haha. I'm disabled/handicapped now, but I use what I know from boating to help people who want to use deep cycle batteries and/or solar power for any reason. It's the same principle, except there are more options now (portable solar generators, USB, LED, Bluetooth, anything 12V, etc., which use much less energy). I live in hurricane territory, so I try to stay prepared. It's good to see Tammy feeling so much better!

Too bad you didn’t have this project in about 10 days when we’re in St Mary’s. My husband, Butch, is a master, mechanic, welder and fabricator. He would have been happy to help you!!

When you first said that was the hardest thing you ever did to put that trolling motor on, all I could think of was when you changed out your daughter's battery in that Ford! After watching you today, you are right this was the hardest thing you probably have ever done.

Great video, the Minn Kota manual for mounting a riptide (I have one) states that you need 3 botls/screws on each side, and not to mount the motor more than 1.5" from the gunwale. The original mounting location is too far forward of the gunwale, can you move it back so the mountplate can be bolted in correctly?
@NICHOLSRETIREMENTEMPIRE2 жыл бұрын
Sure could I was not the one who mounted the 1st trolling motor for this boat and I believe I did have to move this one forward

Chris, Now that you have a spare, use it as a template to fabricate an aluminum base plate that you can permanently mount to the boat, put countersunk stainless bolts from the bottom through the base at the trolling motor mounting points, once you have your mounting plate permanently installed on the boat, you just put stainless nuts and lock washers on from the top for easy on and off of your motor. I watched you change the ridiculously complicated battery on your daughters car, so making this plate will be easy.

Who repairs your trolling motors? Would love a recommendation for someone in the so ga area.

I have only lived here a year so I do not know anyone to fix them. Me and my fishing buddy Paul have worked on them ourselves. He is a good repair man but I just watch YT and try myself.

Chris, everything we buy now is short term garbage. It doesn't matter what you pay. We are at the mercy of big business, marketing and imports. Hey Tammy honey!
