I've had the Ulterra Quest for about a month now and I agree that it's a beast. It will pull my 22' Tritoon (Pontoon) along at 3.8 MPH. I went a different direction on the quick release bracket and it serves a totally different, and useful, purpose. In addition to being able to easily remove the Ulterra Quest, it also allows you to easily move the motor back 10". This is great for moving the motor back for docking, trailering, and putting on the cover. This quick release is the new MKA-57 Quest quick release bracket and it is also a very heavy well built bracket. It has a lever that locks and releases it.

Thanks.....The Quest motors are very easy to do a manual stow if needed. So for me the quick release is just a nicety and not a necessity.

Great video. I was wondering if Hummingbirds Gen4 can read both Mega GPS built in transducer and its original transducer on stern of the boat. The first one is from Ethernet, and the second one is from cable, isn’t it?

By any chance did you try putting it on an old quick release bracket like the mka 16? I don't understand why they want to charge so much for the new quick mounting brackets if the holes are the same Tia

Thanks for watching. This boat is a new build so this is new motor. Had old Ulterras on my boat I sold. It is my understanding, and from what I’ve seen, the mounting holes are same pattern. But you must use all 6 holes. Must have a very robust area to mount this motor. This motor would not have worked on my old boat as the plate where the trolling motor would mount was not robust enough. This motor comes in at 110 pounds.

Surprisingly loud...I'm hoping it's because of the fact it is on a light aluminum boat....I wouldn't be happy if it was that loud on my Lund...my old Ulterra isn't nearly that loud .
@troutmagnetman
@troutmagnetman 6 ай бұрын
@curtadams3281 when I say quite I am talking about the motor with the prop. It is extremely quiet. As for the sounds of stow and deploy I couldn’t care less about that. I could hear both my old Ulterras prop turning in the water. This new one with the brushless motor is virtually noise free when in operation. That shop, and aluminum boat is amplifying the stow deploy sounds also.
@curtadams3281
@curtadams3281 6 ай бұрын
I understand that the prop motor is quieter...I motor that turns the head, to the right or left just sounded very loud when it was in the water on your video. I have seen a couple other videos that sounds much quieter when turning the head right and left. I mean no offense, I was just surprised how your new sounded fairly loud .

It was just a joke. No ill will implied. I’ll be getting one soon and if I see it as an issue I’ll drop the motor earlier before I get to my spot. Keep on fishin’

I agree. When on spot lock my 2018 ulterra is definitely quieter than what I heard in this video when he was on the water. The sound immediately caught my attention when he was on spot lock. The simpler manual stow feature is a big plus however. I had to manually stow my existing ulterra a couple of times. PITA. And you have to have the tools on board to do it. The last time while on the water I just pulled the whole motor off and set it in the floor of the boat via my quick release bracket. I will have to watch more videos as they come available to see if others appear quieter in spot lock. Maybe you just have a super super microphone. I have also been on the wrong end of my 2018 ulterra choking itself on its umbilical cord and I hope the design of the new quest has addressed that as well. Thank you for the video.

Trout magnet, Im confused about the quick motor disconnect. If I want to have an option to quickly detach the motor from the boat, the quick release allows me to do that. Are you saying there is another option to quickly release the motor from the boat when I want to store it inside the garage opposed to leaving it attached to the boat?
@troutmagnetman
@troutmagnetman 5 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. If you intend to take the motor off and put in your garage then yes you need the quick release plate. The manual stow method does not allow you to remove the motor from the mounting. The manual stow just allows you to get the shaft up and out of the water and stowed back in the cradle. I know I sure would hate to take that motor off and put in the garage. At 110 pounds I know I couldn’t do it. But it in the end the quick release plate is really the way to go.

@troutmagnetman
@troutmagnetman 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching.....you have to pair the remote and do a keel offset. Most boats will have this motor mounted to an angle....mine is pointed straight ahead. But pairing and the keel offset procedure is about as simple as it can get.

Do you have any recommendations on a jdm ajing or area UL rod for 1/64 and 1/32 oz jigs that’s under $200? Currently using a daiwa presso 7’6” and would like to upgrade. I mostly fish lakes so 6-7’ would be ideal so I can get some distance. I was looking at the Tenryu Rayz Alter RZA62UL-S but it’s on preorder and a little pricey.

Just make sure if you get the slide back bracket. That you angle the motor more into the boat. So the motor head does not stick out outside of the boat. Important when docking in the slide back position. That the trolling motor head can not hit the dock. If you come into the dock or leave the dock at a faster speed. You could catch the motor head. Knocking it off.

Does it fit in the same footprint as the old ulterra. For example the same amount of overhang from the previous mounting holes?
@troutmagnetman
@troutmagnetman 7 ай бұрын
Not sure as I don’t remember the exact overhang of the older motors. The installation manual has very precise guidelines. And just eyeballing it looks the same. The screw holes are same pattern as older motors. But unlike the older motor where you get away with only using four on this one you must use all six.
