Thanks for the great tech review. I just switched from MotorGuide to the new 60” Ulterra Quest. Can’t wait for ice out to give it a try:)

Thanks so much for showing us the Slide Plate and how it works ! My 4 year old Ulterra decided to quit working on me and ruined a week long smallmouth trip so I’m going back to the Terrova. I heard these new motors stuck out farther than the older ones but that slide plate is really nice looks like I’ll be adding that too to my Ranger 👍👍👍 Wanted to add something after installing my Quest Terrova on my Ranger 620. If installing a Terrova or Ulterra Quest on a 600 series Ranger you must use the MK 58 plate whether your installing the MK 57 slide or not. In order to use 6 mounting bolts with the way these motors have to stick out to clear the rub rail you need that plate. IMO any install videos people are posting at least for Rangers they should mention that. Also if installing with a slide plate or not be prepared to alter your Ranger cover also ! With these new Quest motors being so much bigger and the steering mechanism being taller the cover won’t fit properly. Just some thing s to point out to save people installing on their own some headaches. 👍👍

Great Review. Thank You. My Minn Kota Riptide Ulterra Complaints: LiveScope came out four years ago and Minn Kota did not design the Ulterra to handle the mounting of a LiveScope Transducer? Minn Kota still does not have an illuminated arrow at the top of the Trolling Motor! Crazy. There is no easy way to stow the Shaft when it gets stuck in the Down Position. Remember, in Down Position the unit hangs OVER the bow! My two year old Riptide Ulterra and I have a Love Hate Relationship. Great when it works but….. it has crapped out only to leave me to figure what is the problem. Once, two Novembers ago when fishing by myself it crapped out in the Down position while I was in Canada. Straddling the bow of the boat in 2’+ seas in 40 degree water, I had to wrestle that son of a gun up enough by tying the motor head up and to a cleat. Got back to Camp so pissed. Took the unit off. Helped shut the Camp down within two hours and started my 1 hour trek back to the mainland. Wish the Ultrex came in a saltwater version as I fish around Florida and the Keys part of the year. Also wish these Trolling Motors came with the same Quick Release as I like to have a spare TM but I’ll be darn to buy a “backup” Ulterra. Be well.

I just purchased the quest ulterra to replace my 2018 Ulterra I pilot link. The touch screen was way too sensitive and if your shirt brushed up against the remote it would make it do things you didn't want it to do, like deploy in shallow water and bend the deploy/stow motor shaft, I bent 2 shafts in less than 2 years. It would also stretch the belt. It would come out of spot lock. The worse thing it did, I was trolling on speed 6 and I saw a submerged rock. I went to steer to the right around it and nothing happened. It locked up the keys and screen and I hit it straight on. Both my Sister and I flew out of our seats. And, I heard fiberglass crunching around the mount. I called Minn Kota and they acted like they never heard of that problem with the touch screen remote. They sent me a new remote and immediately it did the same thing. I don't know why they didn't put a sensitivity adjustment on it. I did however find a solution on Ebay, someone 3D printed a cover that goes over the remote so the screen is kinda sunken in. It cured the problem with the remote. A couple of weeks ago, I went fishing, and I couldn't get it to stow again. Then, about an hour later, it quit working all together. I have about 6 months left on the warranty, so, I am going to send it in for repair and immediately sell it to take the sting out of my just purchased ulterra quest with the sliding plate. I couldn't believe that plate was 450 bucks. Highway robbery. I am not too happy with Minn Kota right now. I better not have problems with this quest. If some other manufacturer made auto deploy/stow, I probably wouldn't have gone with Minn Kota again. Thanks for the video, showing the comparison. 😊

I appreciate the info. I have a 2017 Ulterra and hope it gets me another decade, but I haven't had to do any repairs on it and have done minimal maintenance. I do wish it was as beefy as the Quest, but I can't complain too much. It's been reliable, which isn't my buddy's experience with his 2021 Ulterra he had to repair 5 times before he finally sold it with warranty to spare.

What's the difference between the 2017 and the 2021? What issues did he have?
@rippinglipsadventures8 ай бұрын
@@scottkietzmann2065 Belt issues repeatedly, unable to stow and unable to deploy. So many problems it cost him major issues and money by the thousands because he is a guide. He figured it was the gravel roads he drove on and the daily use. My 2017 is only used 2-3 times a week during summer months since 2017. Plus, mine is not an ipilot link version either.
@scottkietzmann20658 ай бұрын
@@rippinglipsadventures If he figured it was the gravel road, I wonder why he didn't simply cover it or remove it while towing
@rippinglipsadventures8 ай бұрын
@@scottkietzmann2065 That’s an added 20 minutes a day possibly. I don’t think he figured it was entirely the gravel because I’ve been traveling on the exact same roads with no issues other than once not deploying the first try. He thought it was a production issue and so did the repairmen. But yeah, there are a lot of possibilities.

Great video!!! I have a ulterra 24 volt. What is the weight difference between the quest and original ulterra? Not sold on the quest yet. Brushless and more beefy for sure. The future is here and has been for brushless motors. The emergency store is great for trim up on the quest but but your housing is still down and would be trouble trying to trailer up in a wind. The winch might smash it up. They should have incorporated a simple store method also, maybe they do? Also where is your bow light located on that boat? Quest is better but looks to me for bigger boats. Its the right direction but like anything else that first comes out, the bugs and updates will be addressed. The true test will be from fisherman with time on it. Thank you the video was excellent.

Why did it take them so long to get a brushless motor. I hope it trickles down to cheaper models as not everyone can afford one of these $3-4k units with brushless motors. The Chinese are going to take this market, look at haswing
@bobczz39196 ай бұрын
Right, brushless motors have been out for over a decade. Their prices are ridiculous crazy. I just bought the new ulterra quest, it cost me $4125.00 out the door, but that sliding base plate was another $450.
@JFoxTN5 ай бұрын
@@bobczz3919 Seems like the sliding base plate negates being able to launch the boat by yourself. I guess it would help for when you use the boat cover.

@JFoxTN You might be right. But, I think I could extend the base plate on the ramp prior to boat launch. I haven't checked it out yet. I still have to remove my old Ulterra and install the new one. Hopefully I can get to it in the next week or so.
