Just an FYI its not an island, it’s connected to the mainland. The reason u cant drive there is because there are glacier blocking you. Ik this cause my grandparents use to have a place in homer and a cabin in a different cove. And thats why its called Kachemak BAY. Check a map out! No hate just wanted to inform.

I was just in Homer in June. I was also there in 2001. Caught a 125 pound Halibut in 2001. This time we brought back 44 pounds of Halibut, gray cod and rock fish. I am looking forward to this series. Catch a big one!

I think you should move in with your grandparents next summer. The biggest halibut I ever saw was 400+ pounds caught up around the Bering Straits and the boat came down to where we shipped our fish in Yakutat and the left it in a tub of ice for a day for everyone to come and see. I wish I would have taken a picture but it was before digital cameras or even cell phones were invented and I had run out of film.

Group went to Homer July 2020 and went out with North Country charter for halibut and King salmon. We easily limited out. We caught some lingcod but had to toss them as had to be over 36 inches to keep. The cabin is cool.

The cod you were catching are called Pacific cod or P-cod and they are what Mcdonalds uses to make their fish sandwiches. A lot of people I take out actually prefer them over halibut but they have quite a few worms. 16:59 that is called a sculpin

The longliners when I worked there used salted chunks of fish that had been sitting in a barrel for a while. They would put it on the hook as the line went out and catch halibut on it. I think they had 24 hour seasons multiple times of the year back in the 90's.

Y'all crack me the f up, real Alaskans get their bait the old fashioned way, just sayin....I can MAYBE excuse Y'all being from MN, but c'mon man, it's a bunch of psycho's down there, follow your instincts and move. I might even sub if Y'all moved and did just AK vids, Y'all ARE very entertaining and would be fun to fish with. Also, just remember, here in Alaska, to have real fun like a cabin on a island it is work. Most the summers here is hard work and a hell of a lot of fun too. While I do NOT support big brands that are based in foreign countries, the slogans from back in the day still applies. "Dare to be different" and "just do it" applies here, just showing my age probably, but funny none the less.
