I got to experience the sockeye salmon run last year. It was my first time going to Alaska and we stayed in a cabin on the Kenai River. It was a blast fighting those beasts on a baitcaster!!

Kenai river had a huge late run this year nearly a million fish so far when last year there was 300-400k at this time of year. Went and flipped hooked a flip every 2-3 flips and limited in an hour or two (didn’t fish very long I’ve that 2 hours)

We are fortunate that the Kenai still supports healthy runs of reds (sockeye). This is even though the the fabled Kenai Kings are essentially gone. Exploiting the magnificent resources of Alaska whether it be fur, fish, lumber, oil, or gold, historically, is what most people associate with this state. It is somewhat painful to see this still happening. Extraction of resources without understanding what it means to be Alaskan. And having no personal investment or respect for them. Only, how much can we get?
