Innocent until proven guilty. Whether it's spelled out in black and white this man has to face judgment first. You should feel lucky we have this in the US. Unfortunately the court of public opinion too often hurts innocent ppl when they allegedly did a crime. Just remember that it's there for our protection. And as someone who has been falsely accused of a crime and even though it amounted to nothing, within a day i was released from jail, I still think back to how fucked up it was that I wasn't just falsely accused, but by someone who I thought cared about me. He was purposefully trying to hurt me and discredit me bc he was afraid of his own consequences. Luckily for me I am a woman and so most charges, even when completely false, did not stick. I still had to spend a night in jail and I have never been in trouble with the law once in my entire life. I was the one who called the police and yet bc he lied and said i hit him when I've never laid a finger on anyone my entire life, I was the one arrested. I called crying on the phone for help and when when the police got there he said I punched him and with no evidence they arrested me and had me spend a night in jail. Keep in mind this was my house and I have no record and have never called the cops before and they just took his word even though at the time I was sober and he was shit faced drunk. It still traumatizes me and I think about it often and how someone who you think you know is actually heartless. Obviously this situation is different but just don't be quick to scream guilty when our society has done the right thing and for the most part innocent ppl do not get in trouble. After that my mugshot was put online even though I wasnt charged with anything and I was let out of jail the next morning. Where I work saw my mugshot and I had to tell ppl what happened. Every single one of them said they knew I would never hurt anyone so that made me feel a lot better knowing ppl i work with and know never thought I would hurt anyone. I still can't believe it happed to me. And if I was a man there is a good chance I would've had to deal with a lot more bullshit. Innocent until proven guilty. Even when the blood is on someone's hands.

One of the fundamental tenets of our legal system is that people are presumed innocent until proven otherwise. In every case involving an allegation that a person has committed a crime, it poses a legal risk to assert they are guilty of that crime before a court has determined their guilt. A media outlet might run the risk of being sued for defamation - which is a lawsuit seeking damages for publications that harm a person’s reputation - or being in contempt of court by influencing witnesses or people who may end up being on the jury in the case (see more on contempt below).
