I'm all caught up on the D2 series so I decided to see what else you have and I've been binge watching all day. I can't add much to what everyone else has said. You're amazing. Thanks for the videos.

The machining setup for doing all this work is ingenious! You're certainly one highly skilled mechanic.

Very impressive job of machining and creating home made, one off, tooling.

Fantastic work. Been on a series binge on this snowy February day. Guessing you are in MN, by some of your videos. Hope to see this thing at one of the threshing show's in the future. I currently have a MM in pieces, although not the same model, I'm picking up some pointers. Keep up the good work!

Very impressive work! Really looks like you retained as much " beef" as possible in the casting. Can't wait to see it all coming together!

I'm new to your channel and I don't know what your day job is, but whatever it is I'm sure they're not paying you enough.

WOW, what a deal. That WAS like a cat eating a grindstone! Sure turned out REALLY good though. I was with you hoping on the 1/4 but it wasn't there yet. And now a gasket will take up the slack you need. The guys that fixed the case did a good job too in leaving you plenty to work with. Your channel out to be titled 'Home MADE Machine Shop'! Hope the weather is calming down a bit and you're getting a little break at work. Days are winding down and the shop will be open again before too long. Maybe even a little diesel smoke blowing. Who knows. Take care, Pal! I'm with you!

Sounds like a plan 2 me too but don't O.D. on that sweet stuff!

The production version has a "lip" on the underside to add more rigidity. Well done the brazing and line boring. Looks like a big big job

I watch this channel for all the cool old castings! It pains me to see how much effort you’re having to put into repairing. Sometimes you can save time and money to let a pro drop it into a big horizontal mill 3-4 hours including setup and done. You spent 10x that making the 1 off custom machine. Impressive just really hard.

When you started doing this project I tried to come up with a faster method and I'm just not sure if there is one. Might be able to mount a flap disc angle grinder on a bit of an arm so you could hold the trigger engaged and rotate the arm into and out of the part and slide it in/out for depth. Would remove material faster but be a mess.

That did take a lot of care and attention to the machining process, and I can understand you being tired after that job. So does the belt drive housing attain it's clearance with steel shims and a gasket to the main case now ? Tedious job to be sure,...you deserve to be proud of the work so far.

I'll be watching,...this is why I 'clicked on' the bell icon next to Subscribed.

Wow, that case looks like it was designed to fail from the factory. I did not realize that the bearing was just hanging out there all alone.

I agree that it does look scary thin around there for how much power is going through there. They did add significant reinforcement on the production one, tho.

Is there a hydraulic pump off the back of that shaft? I see the PTO gear behind the wet clutch.
@geckonz16 жыл бұрын
Nice repair, did you consider when they added all the new material to the broken bearing housing adding more material to connect the broken one to the one below it, like in the production gearbox, is that possible or do you like to keep things as original as possible?
@geckonz16 жыл бұрын
Squatch253, thanks for the reply, we used to have a MM Rte here in New Zealand that was parked up because the rims had given out, it sat for years and eventually we put it in a vintage tractor magazine in the late 90’s as “free” the phone didn’t stop ringing, these days I wish we had kept it but the new owner was a MM collector and was able to give it a good home, he was excited cause he had plenty of RTU’s but no RTE’s

i wish i knew what "the material" is they added that needs to be milled back down...is it steel? bronze?

I'm not sure what we are "Repairing" here I see the bronze.....that is the repair? Did the cast iron housing break?
@Happyfacehotwheels Жыл бұрын
Yes, the cast iron housing broke. He has a playlist on this tractor that you can watch from the beginning. It's a 1 of 1 Minneapolis-Moline prototype tractor.

Just out of curiosity, why couldn't both of the bevel gears be larger in diameter, keeping the same reduction ratio, but just so the pulley bevel gear didn't have to be in as far?
@tmack20906 жыл бұрын
how many hours did you have just in milling ?

I do have a line bore stuff that would have made it easier
@horatiohornblower8686 жыл бұрын
The jig you built for the boring job is amazing. Far from amazing is the design of that gear box. Simply a disgrace. And the fact MM kept the same design for later models does not give them credit. Obviously the engineers did not learn from their mistakes. No wonder MM is no longer in business.
@alberteinstein90455 жыл бұрын
I take it machine shops with a horizontal boring mill wanted to much to mill this for you??
