Why oh why is lutefisk on here? No one even wants to go near that stuff, just the look of it makes us gag. It's usually consumed by those who are very true to their Norwegian heritage....or are just crazy as hell. So lutefisk being a favorite for Minnesotans couldn't be further from the truth.

Props to bow-tie guy for eating two more bites of it though.I'm glad to see you put some of the good stuff in like Tator-Tot Hotdish and our Juicy-Lucies, but you missed church basement potatoes. Come on. And you could have at least let them wash down the lutefisk with one of our amazing micro-brews.

I can't say I'd ever had Lutefisk when I lived in Minnesota, but I've certainly had minor variations on all the others here. It's actually very warming to see the reactions. The burger's name is a new one me, I thought they were just stuffed burgers. I would have thought sone dish with wild rice would have been part of this, or just rice in general. Or for that matter fried cheese curd which I still crave from time to time.

Lutefisk is kinda a dyeing tradition. Not a lot of people understand that lutefisk isn't always eaten alone, even older people back in the day didn't eat it alone. Put some sore cream on it or some lemon on it and choke that stuff down. No, i like it though. These dishes make me a Minnesotan and I'm proud to say i enjoy them. Most of them seemed like picky eaters.

Ah, Lutefisk. At my high school they would have Lutefisk dinners in the evening and the next morning you would smell it all over the school. That and the sauerkraut smell as you walk into the school at 8 in the morning is not the fondest memory. It's like fish-flavored jello. Seriously. Smells bad, but the taste is very mild. Not pleasant though (at least not to me). It's survival food. They took the dried herring fillets and soaked them in lye (YES, that's right. Still done. Breaks down the fibers of the meat to make it not taste like rubber), then rinse them with cold water thoroughly and cook. Usually served with butter. It's a good thing to try out of curiosity for the historical practices of other cultures, but other than that, meh.

Seriously Lutefisk is not that bad, if you want to eat some fish only a viking could stomach try some hakarl (ice shark), the fish is poisonous when eaten fresh so instead it is left to putrefy (rot) for 6 weeks, literally fermenting, and then cut and hung out to dry for another 4 months. Ancestral food is the best. :)
