This happened across from the street from work one day this spring. Someone was cooking and got distracted by something else. 15 minutes later, the fire department rolls in. I could see some smoke coming from the windows from my office, they were out of that house for about a month while the damage recovery occurred. They were fortunate it wasn’t any worse, but it always hits close to home because it can always could’ve been yourself or someone you’re close to.

That was pretty minor then, but not as minor as this place. I am sure by New Years they will be back. Still a horrible thing to have happen. i feel really sorry it it happened due to not watching the cooking and instead watching something else. If that's how it happened, that's unfortunately how a lot of people have to learn their lesson nowadays.

I remember about I forgot how many years ago when I was little in this was during the summer by elementary school. They were working on the roof and something happened. I believe it was a generator exploded, causing part of the school to catch fire.

There was a fire a few blocks from my old house many years ago. What had happened was they were heating a pot of oil on the stove to deep fry something and they overheated it to the point it caught fire. They tried to pick up the pot and take it outside but they bruned themself on the pot and dropped it causing the burning oil to go everywhere and the house ended up burning to the ground. The only thing left was a shed in the backyard. Eventually the high class citizens of the neighborhood broke the lock off the shed and stole everything out of it. A few years after that they stole the shed too. Its still an empty lot probably 15-20 years later.

Wow, what a way to go. Back in the day, sitcoms would have a light in the attic short out and that would start it. I had a similar thing happen to me with oil once back in the day, well, rather, I was the hero in that one. I'll save that for an Old War Story one day.

Hopefully not much damage, scary stuff. Back in 2023 my garage was close to catching on fire here due to my own stupid ideas put in to action. The gas can was close by too, so I could have caught on fire too. Those lights look like laser light beams, no wonder why led causes eye pain.

I once place my gas can precariously and it fell over upside-down. Dumped about a gallon of gas on the garage floor. The garage and the rest of the house stunk like gas for a week, but it has since all dissipated and all is well. No damage occurred. The power was left on at this house so it really was minor. Still, it's a huge upset. They probably couldn't sleep there that night, just guessing on that. The lights were painful to look at in real life. But at least they were all being run on pure DC voltage so they didn't flicker. I've said many times, they got LEDs right for the cars, and it's all because it's got pure DC.

@@jaykay18 My thoughts on another comment here. I rarely see the reason mentioned if it ever does hit the news. They may or may not flicker on DC, but the lights on emergency vehicles are the worst and cause blindness for longer periods of time. Like I said, these leds have to be lasers, that is why the gruberment won't regulate leds. They also hide behind climate scam and carbon emissions and social whatever costs.

Aw man, not again! Well if it's minor, it is safe to say it wasn't a tree this time. Maybe their alarm system is connected to notify the fire department, or someone made the call. How did you notice the smoke scent? Did it come through the boiler exhaust again? Though I noticed you said in the air, so maybe you went outside for something. Amazingly I can't recall ONE instance of me being home alone, and the door bell ringing while I am cooking. But yeah, frying stuff? CANNOT take chances like that. I think i told you before, if I am using a pan of oil to fry stuff? I always keep the lid right nearby because even though unlikely, if the oil ignites, burner off and lid on. All will be well.

Yeah, really! Ancient Pagan rituals of bringing a tree inside while you go put the heat on to dry it out, lace it with cheap wiring, then get drunk and light candles. That was Gallagher's impression of Christmas from a fire prevention point of view. No scent of it till I was outside. Last time I had the windows open and the fart sniffer in the air purifier noticed it right away, it was glowing red and angry and running a mile a minute. I had people over all the time back in the day and when the doorbell rang, the electric skillet that I still use today was turned OFF before I left the room. I would open the door, invite them in, and come right back to the kitchen and turn it right back on. No chance I'm going to leave it for a minute while this one goes to the bathroom and that one hangs their coat up. Dinner will be just fine. I did once, and you were here, have the turkley ignite on Thanksgivmas in March. "Close the door and turn it off" was the best advise indeed. Fixed it all up and was able to continue cooking till catpletion. This year I was going to use the tisserie, but I ended up getting just a turkley breast. It fit the halogen oven so I used that instead of the jumbo tisserie. That thing had to cook for about 2:15 or so, and it did it like champ. Longest I ever cooked with it. I was faking infomercial camera shots when I carved this, and it was real. You know what this is, and have had it. Yeah, it's actually possible to cook an absolute feast for your guests, forgetting even the sides. That poor bird was devoured and only made a couple sandwiches after.
