I use his character on my friend's podcast. While he doesn't speak in the movie, I gave the little guy a voice, basically like a little kid.

Maybe I am weird but like the idea that Sam is actually a good guy. He goes around keeping Halloween honest; if you're mean he will scare the crap out of you! If you do something really bad he will take you down! But if you are just out to enjoy Halloween and have some fun, you have nothing to be afraid of.

3:49 That part spooked me cause I didn't expect to hear a kid say "Trick or Treat" in the ending stinger, it's honestly so cool seeing the origins of "Trick 'r Treat" from this short. I seriously can't wait to see the sequel once it's ready.

My thoughts on the context of what Sam was doing throughout the short was that he already knew about the man from the very beginning when he came across the doll. He saw what happened when he lifted it and tossed his stick to the side knowing a child had been kidnapped and knew the killer was nearby. That's why he pretended to still be trick or treating at midnight knowing everyone was already asleep and knew the predator was already watching him. And then he baited him using his form as a decoy in the alleyway. So that makes Sam a hero in a lot of ways, but not the usual that always saves everyone, just those who he believes is really worth caring about and not subject to the laws of Darwinism. Like in the movie he doesn't save the kid Steven almost buried alive because he didn't check his candy, but he already knew Wilkins fate was due soon anyway and would be there to watch it happen because he despised how Wilkins used his Holiday as an excuse to harm random civilians for his own pleasure.

So crazy. I remember seeing this on tv (I believe MTV) back in the 90s (maybe early 2000s) but I was very young. It creeped me out so much. For years I wanted to remember what it was. I always remembered it, then discovered this on my Trick ‘r Treat Blu-ray and my mind was absolutely blown. The film has been a Halloween tradition for me for over a decade. Can’t believe my first encounter with Sam goes back pre Trick ‘r Treat.

Innocent yet strong at the same time. Mini Halloween fans don't know this, but he's half Italian and half Irish. There was a festival in Italy called Ferelia and a Celtic Festival in Ireland called Samhian, Sam for short. Is the Gaelic word for Summer's end. Without these two festivals, Halloween would never exist. Never underestimate the spirit of Sam! 🎃🖤💜🧡🍬🍫🍭

That's what the man thought he was. Samhain is actually an adult spirit using his child form as a decoy so he can roam as one of us. He's technically revealed to be the Grim Reaper in the Days of the Dead comic book.
