My husband's was stolen probably from some medical forms (and not in our home...so someone got it from the medical center) It was 3 years of constant stomping out small fires. His thief did a lot of small things like opening up a Home Depot card and getting gift cards on it. The most difficult one to manage was the thief opened up an account with Sprint in Washington state (and we're not there) and it took forever to convince Sprint that it wasn't us. All three of our credit score accounts are still locked almost ten years later. I should be better about checking it regularly. And we use Mint and alerts to manage any theft of an actual credit card information (which has happened...my PP card number was swiped from a local restaurant and then someone purchased $500 worth of merch from a Montgomery Wards? in Dallas...again, I'm not in Texas...and I was at the eye doctor when the transaction happened.) . It's really annoying.

My mom accidently left her bank card at a gas station couple yrs ago.. then a few days later her account was in the hole when her normal monthly payments were being sent through.. she remembered the last time she used the card..but the bank said there had been charges at Sears for new tires and a couple other big purchases in different towns 15-20 miles away.. but when she called the police to make a report.. They said she would have to go to each town where the purchases were made, and file a police report there.. eventually, because she filed police reports, the bank did refund her money, and the bounce fees generated by her normal bills coming in.. but nobody was ever prosecuted..

@@nicholasbeeson4999 you perhaps missed my earlier post.. we were hacked about 2 years ago.. our credit report is also now frozen for safety reasons.. So now.. when someone called his phone number, it rang on an old prepay phone they had.. The next morning husband tried to make a call and his phone has no service.. The hackers stole phone number so that when the bank sent a text to approve a transfer, the text would come to them and they could approve it.. luckily bank recognized something shady was going on and and was also trying to get them to reply to email, but we finally thought to notify the bank..

My husband and son got hit about year n half ago.. It started out super strange.. One morning, my husband woke up and tried to make a phone call.. His phone wouldn't work and there was a recording saying the number was out of service.. He called the phone company and they told him his number was "ported" to a different company.. They said at midnight, he had switched phone service providers, and took his number to a different company.. He said he never authorized that, switch it back.. assuming it was an error on their part.. But they told him their was nothing he could do except get a new phone number.. That's not going to work.. he has t shirts printed with the phone number, biz cards, etc.. He had appt and told me to go fix it.. thinking someone stole his phone number to get to his customers.. because now he's worried about who is answering his phone calls.. Anyway.. I'm at phone company he was told the number was 'ported to'.. and I explain what happened according to info from our phone company.. this place is confused, not helpful.. don't want to admit they did anything wrong, I guess.. I go back to my phone company, and they send me back to the other company.. then they are calling fraud depts.. security codes have been changed and Im couple hours into trying to get our phone number back.. when someone at the phone company said have you checked with your bank? "Our bank? " Oh shit.. Yep.. that was the real reason they stole or "ported the number" wasn't to steal customers.. it was because when you change something on your bank account, or are authorizing a password change.. the bank sends a text message to your phone immediately, so you can approve or deny the change.. So these guys had figured out how to steal the phone number first! Then when they attempted a bank theft.. or money transfer, and the bank sent a text, the call would come to their phone and they could approve it.. Luckily.. husband got to the bank before they had authorized anything.. the bank had been stalling.. but the hackers knew his SS # and mother's maiden name.. But we now have a freeze on the credit report also.. and just a week later.. the same thing was attempted on my son's account at same bank.. they'd used his card number to reserve a hotel in Miami.. but bank had not approved a $2000 transaction at a hotel in Singapore or someplace.. My son discovered it the same way.. was driving between projects at work.. tried to make a call.. phone didn't work.. thought maybe he was just in a dead zone on highway.. but pulled into the next phone store he came across, a few miles down the road.. He was told someone had just ported his number too.. about 30 mins before.. so they were able to switch it back immediately.. with out dealing with fraud departments for 24 hours like my husband did.. My warning to everyone.. if your phone stops working.. and you are told you ported your number to a different company.. the very next thing you should do is go to your bank!!!! deal with the phone 2nd.. only reason to steal your phone number is to trick the bank

I asked provider for address and told them I live in California. I asked them if they could still ship the units so I can go catch the people and they refused. Cops also refused to use the phones as bait.

Thi happened to me with my cell phone provider. All of a sudden 7 new iphones were being shipped to Florida. found this out after calling me service. Unfortunately they did not want to let the items finish shipments. My plan was to fly over to florida and wait to see who the shipments went to and capture this person. Unfortunately when I called the city cops of where teh shipments weere shipping too as well they did not want to do anything.

I had my truck broken into 2 weeks ago. I was carrying a box with all my important documents in it, I'm talking College Diploma, High School diploma, years of tax returns, receipts for rental houses, documents from lawyers, family photos, you name it. If it was precious to me, I was carrying it, and it was stolen. I've switched bank accounts, but what else can I do?

The amounts offered in the settlement are such a joke. It's $125 per person IF they estimated the number of claimants accurately, which never happens. Also, since they require no paperwork for the first 10 hours of work cleaning up the mess, many dishonest people will be claiming fake hours to get that money, which will eat into the settlements as well. I don't think it's the end of the world or anything when the $125 drops to $53 each or something, but people always freak out because they thought the original number was a sure thing.

it will most likely be far less than $53 payout per person. The lawsuit settlement only set aside $31million for the $125 payout option, and another $31million for the "time spent fixing stuff" portion of the payouts. Both of which were exceeded within the first 2 weeks.. which was nearly a month ago at this point. Plus in the last month, TV News shows, daytime shows, and KZbinrs have been making videos telling people to go claim their portion of the payout, so I am sure the amount of people who have done it now far exceeds the initial estimates. If just 10% of the people affected (140mil+ total) were to choose the payout option, the payout would drop from the initial $125 to a paltry $2.21... and that's only with 10% of the people choosing that option.

The whole thing's a fraud/scam. Wouldn't doubt it if they didn't do it to themselves. It's a joke - sign away your rights to future claims in order to get $125 lousy dollars .. which you won't even get at all. All just a damn joke.

Exclude yourself from the settlement and file in your local small claims court.
