So Conan entered into the public domain in the UK and EU nations as their intelectual prosperity laws are life of author +70 years (making Conan public domain, at least the OG stories written by Howard). I think your summary of the role of cattle in greek mythology is a little hasty: the entire reason the original Minotaur even had a bull's head was because his true father was a sacred white bull that Poseidon sent from the sea to king minos to sacrifice. Minos was too proud to kill the beautiful specimen and instead substituted a common bull, which angered Poseidon and ironically led to the Queen becoming obsessed with the bull too and eloping with it secretly. Bulls were commonly associated with greatness and thought to have a naturally kingly aspect, this reverence probably had everything to do with the fact that bulls are favored by Poseidon and that wild Aurochs still roamed Europe at that time as these gigantic Bovines were considered the king of animals the way the Lion is colloquially "King of the Jungle" today. If there's a horror/punitive aspect its in the sheer unnaturalness of a half-human, what specific animal isn't terribly deciding there.
