Justine! Here's a trick to softening butter. Putting it in the microwave is a choice, but it's not the best because of how oily and liquidity it can get. You can leave it on the countertop beforehand but that will take time. So next time you're softening butter, before you mix it or use it, try like poking around with it with a spatula and smushing it so it loosens up. Just a tip i thought i'd mention, it's really up to you

justine, i have a hack for you! Put a glass cup full of water in the microwave for 3 minutes, then when its done dump the water out and put the cup over the butter, then the butter will be at room temperature if you leave it under the cup for a couple of minutes.
