Yes I’ve been really trying to figure out how I can honor my ancestors but I’m having a difficult time because..I’ve never met them and/or know very little about them. Are there any tips you or anyone might have for this kinda of scenario? Thanks 🌻
@vhbudzki3 жыл бұрын
I'm in the same situation. I never met my grandmother, but I've always felt close to her. Which seems so odd because I know so little about her. ☹ She passed away before I was able to meet her because she was in a different country.

One way is ancestral veneration. Set up an altar on a clean space, mine is on a desk. U can cover it with a white cloth. On top put a candle, incense, a glass of water (change weekly), a plant. Occasionally u can leave fruit, coffee, home cooked meals etc. on the altar. You may not know them but they know and love you. Just thank them for their sacrifices and for protecting you. Hope this helped♥️
@xhottestpink3 жыл бұрын
@@vhbudzki if you can get a hold of her picture, put it on your altar. Pray, meditate over it and talk to her like you would if she was there. It brings peace and eventually your connection will happen. Currently have one for my grandma

ask questions :) learn from someone who knew them. ask about what they were like, ask about special memories, and then speak to the ancestors. let them know you are thinking of them, and do all you can to make them proud

I've recently discovered a notion about ancestral relationships in regards to healing emotional and generational trauma, and am going to do more research on how I can use my natural born "claires" to begin confronting my own inherited toxic behaviors in response to trauma and use that knowledge to help ancestors understand how to heal themselves from the other realms before they decide to take a body again so when they do, they may have a more well rounded and stable existence to learn in, over all as a way of raising the vibrancy of my potential future ancestry, my living family has deep knowledge of our ancestry for several centuries and it gets pretty dark , I just thought what a loving thing to do, and such a worthwhile experience to have.

A little over nine years ago my cousin passed away. At the funeral, we all received little wooden crosses with his name on it. I didn’t understand what they meant; I wasn’t religious in any way, but I always kept it. It felt important. As time goes on, my aunt (his mother) has always given my sister and I gifts from her trips overseas. Typically it’s handmade jewelry and containers. One time I got a little wooden box from her, and I found it fit his cross perfectly. It seemed fitting to keep it in something gifted from his mother. Over the years I added things to the box, seashells (it just seemed right) and a lapis necklace that my aunt gave me. It’s only today that I’m realizing, is this an altar to him?

Happy Halloween. Thank you much for this video. . . Honoring our ancestors is ver big deal in my culture. I am Native American from Souther Oregon and in many of our gatherings and before or after ceremonies like the sweat lodge we make and offering plate to the spirits and our creator. . . This video reminded me of that. I also appreciate your words in saying that we honor them by living our best life. So true and so beautiful. Thank you 🥰

I want to connect with my ancestors when I’m older because I’m not allowed right now since I live with my mom and family and she thinks it’s dangerous and doesn’t allow me too . But I want to honour them but NOT worship them but I never see people work with their ancestors without worshipping them and is that even possible . I love you so much mint ❤️✨
@LaneMaxfield3 жыл бұрын
What's the difference between honor and worship? It really depends on what those words mean to you. I'd guess that if the difference matters to you, it's because you don't want to confuse God/Source/Spirit/Ultimate Reality with one of his/her/their/its more earthly agents. Many spiritual practitioners "worship" their ancestors while still making that distinction. An altar isn't necessarily meant to say, "I think you, Grandma Maggie, are literally God" but "thank you, Grandma Maggie, for the ways in which you have let God/Source/the Spirit of the Universe work through you and bless my life" or something like that. So do whatever you can get away with in your home, and do it with that intent of thanking your ancestors for being the agents of something that we are all connected to, but which is also bigger than us.

My mom was adopted, I guess I need to do one of those DNA things to figure out who to honor. I love my family, the one that adopted her, so much!! They're all passed on now, but were all Christians. As in Southern Methodists who would be appalled and disown me for doing witchcraft. I honor them, but I think it would be disrespectful to make an altar for them or anything like that. Thank you for sharing this! I've been trying to figure out how to best honor my ancestors with an altar. It's a little complex for me because I'm adopted and all but my maternal grandmother had passed before I was born. And last year (when I was 40) I got in touch with both sides of my biofam, so I REALLY didn't know the ancestors on that side, but I definitely want to incorporate them all in somehow. I think I'm going to see if I can get pictures of them all and start with that, then build upon it if I feel called to. Also, your hat is AMAZING!!!!!

Okay so I just did a ritual to ask my ancestors for help for the first time because I have something very important tomorrow, like, life-changing something haha, I'll tell you what I did so that if any experienced witches read this you guys can tell me what you think: First, I lit a candle and an incense and I start calling all my relatives by relationship and name (example: "I call my great grandma Ángela Marturet de Palazzi"), in case I don't know their full name I just call them by relationship and the part of the name I know ("I call my great great grandma Justina de Marturet") or by nickname ("I call my great aunt 'tía Negra' Marturet"), once I have called everyone, I put a little cup with black coffee, with sugar (at least that's how my late dad liked it), and let them know three times that it's for them, telling them we're going to have a little coffee together, as I sip my own cup; after that, I thank them for my life and for what they've done for me, I let them know what help I need, what I'll do in exchange (plant a tree and take care of my plants, I believe when we ask for something we have to give life to the world in exchange), and after that I explain to them how I'm going to write all of that in a piece of paper, and after doing so, I "charge" it with my good energy and I burn it. Finally, I drink coffee with them until the fire dies, and at that point I deeply thank them, let them know they can go rest, wish them the best and tell them that I love them, and let them know that once they've left I'll give their coffee to a plant so that it can give it life too.

My grandma passed away this February, she was a complicated women. She was mean and pitted her children against each other. Other times, she threw huge extreme parties for everyone and also helped people financially. Nevertheless, I can’t get over the hurt she caused to my mother and me. She may have had undiagnosed bipolar personality disorder. She lived through trying times as a Black woman during the 30s, 40s and 50s. Do I honor her or do I leave the hurt in the past? She never said I’m sorry.
@kineticelectricity3 жыл бұрын
I feel like this question is drawing me a bit, so I hope you don't mind if I chime in... Complicated people can require complicated responses from us. I think that only you will know the best route through this pain and memory. One thing you can do to figure out what is right for you is to imagine yourself following different paths before you. One path is to forget her, maybe. When you think about going down that path, does it feel right? Is there something about it that doesn't sit right with you? What about if you imagine yourself working through these memories and arriving at a forgiving place? Does that feel like a place you would like to be? Maybe it's a little of either of those, maybe it's neither. Feel out the right way for you and your spirit. It's okay to make wrong turns. It's okay to double back. It's okay to change your mind later. When you are on the right path, your heart will feel better, I think.
