The point of this video is not to "rework" or "buff" The Trapper, rather it's to explore the reasons behind why some of the most popular suggestions for The Trapper were not added, or why BHVR doesn't seem to have any interest in changing Evan Macmillan! Apologies for any editing errors, it's very hot where I live and my Laptop has started to overheat really quick. This results in my entire Laptop crashing constantly, or getting stuck in loading screens. For that reaso, 5 minutes of the video where deleted! In regards to some parts of the video: When I refer to Blight and Nurse "promoting" fun gameplay, what I meant is that both characters offer mechanically complex gameplay that are unique to those characters. Playing against an average Nurse or Blight that is not abusing addons is fun (At least for me and my group!) Any character in the game can play in a disgusting way, but that's a problem of Dead By Daylight, and not a character's kit. I could have mentioned Leatherface and his camping abilities, for example! Second of all, regarding spawn logic near generators, that would only work if the Developers add new addons that maybe inflict penalties to survivors that disarm them, or if BHVR adds a mechanic to punish interrupting disarms. Even then, with the current kit, I would still want better spawn logic rather than having my bear traps spawn in random corner loops!

Agreed on that. Nurse at her core is one of the most fun killers to play against, honestly. She completely flips the formula of dbd on its head and after playing the exact same match over and over again, that shakeup is appreciated. DbD makes nurse unfun, not nurse. Similar example, I think going against a Bubba that is playing the actual game is one of the most fun experiences in dbd. Bubbas kit allows a strategy that has honestly been accidentally enforced by bhvr in a lot of cases, i.e. camping and tunneling. That said I don't think Bubba at his core is the problem, I just think that strategy being promoted has made the problem. I hope the new hook grab changes help a lot, and I think there will be more changes that drop to make the strategy less efficient in the future.

They buffed the trappers "setting trap" speed before. But I never understood why the trapper had to travel to grab his ability. He needs to start with every trap as basekit. Also, his traps should give survivors a mend state if stepped in. Lastly, the traps need to be a bit larger. Running around his traps make his ability useless. Also, plays against the trapper if the trapper can't walk around the traps.

I once told some of my boys a unique idea to buff trapper’s basekit. Just make it so that survivors who step in a bare trap are hindered by 10% until fully healed. It’s like an indirect buff to his chase. Not only that but it makes sense that a person’s movement would be crippled after stepping in a bear trap 😂

I think a really simple thing the developers could do is to simply make all of his starting traps begin the trial as active, that way there is a chance for an early start to the trapper if someone steps in it, and allows for early game info if a survivor decides to disarm the trap early on, or the survivors can choose to risk leaving the trap active as to not give an alert to their location.

While trapper himself is flawed, I think the game as a whole has a huge part in him being so weak. As you said, DbD was originally a very immersive horror game, with dark, foggy maps covered in high grass and survivor players were scared to get in the killer's way. The game just fundamentally doesn't fit trapper anymore, now that it's more focused on competitive play and cosmetics/licenses.

Game definitely isn't focused on competitive play. But everything else you said is correct. The game isn't the same style it used to be. Especially when it comes to how survivors are supposed to be afraid of the killer. But arent. Its turned into how long can the survivors bully the killer lol. Its just sad. I wish it was actually a competitively viable game. But with even tournaments needing to create a different scoring system due to how easily high level teams can do all gens. Its just unfortunately not the reality. And probably never will be. Just waiting for the next game to cannibalize DBD. They've incompetently trudged along for long enough due to zero competition.

I suppose if the beginner killers aren’t that good, it will incentivize the player to either quit, grind, or buy new killers and perks with their own money. I can’t see much reason otherwise why they’d blatantly ignore a suffering character, especially a flagship character.

@@Btobebone Nurse takes a lot of practice to play efficiently and requires perks from other killers in order to succeed at the higher ranks. Most players don’t have the patience to grind for perks and endure many 0-1 kill matches before mastering a killer. The alternative is to grind for shards and check the shrine often.

If you can gain the ability to down survivors in 20 seconds then you basically secure the 3-4k every single time without fail. Nurse is a problem that bhvr refuses to fix. I feel like the Trapper's kill rate overall would be much lower if they filtered out the extremely lucky shack basement matches where you get a surv hooked in basement early and trap up the place, followed by the entire team just swarming the place for an easy 4K.

I agree with your proposed changes, and I would also add this: 1. Trapper no longer triggers his own traps as basekit. This is because of the problem with his hitbox being bigger than that of survivors, which leads to situations where they can go around the traps but Trapper cannot. 2. Increase the time it takes to disarm traps and to get free out of them, making it more feasible for Trapper to get to a trapped survivor before they escape, or at least to make them lose more time with traps instead of gens or something else. Maybe it could be a bit faster to get free if another survivor helps the one trapped, since then there are two survivors spending time on it. 3. Make the addon that darkens traps basekit, but instead (as I read on another comment) make their color more similar to the ground of that respective map (or maybe reduce its opacity?). 4. Give the Trapper haste for a couple seconds when a trap is disarmed. Since survivors now can see on the HUD when someone is being chased, they would know when not to disarm them. Also, if he's not in chase it would help him reach places faster or comeback to the disarmed trap quicker. Or BHVR could just entirely rework him, change his name to The Rapper and make him kill the survivors with his deadly rhymes.

Not bad overall, suggested change however, change the haste bonus to when a survivor becomes trapped instead of a standard disarm. This would allow him to either close out a chase or give him greater chances of reaching the trapped survivor in time. In addition, reveal the aura of survivors who disarm traps for 5 seconds. Make coffee grounds basekit. Unironically, I can't agree with more grass, it removed skill expression from survivors. Walking on eggshells truly isn't fun for most people. I'd much rather see unique trap locations that have the opportunity to catch me off guard or force me to path poorly, netting me less distance from trapper per loop. That gameplay is fun, because trapper catches me faster due to intelligent trap placement. Grass was there so I caught a survivor for free isn't nearly as fun, for me at least.

My idea for the trapper would be that stepping on a trap will hinder and hemorrhage you for 10-30 secs if you pull yourself off avoid this if your teammate removes it. Give the trapped person the dying state bonus to see if its worth pulling yourself off or if you can wait for a teammate (optional). Would remove the attempt to escape from the traps cuz its just a hole button attempt and turn it to the wiggle skill check without great skill checks and smaller bars for 5-8 seconds. Make base kit traps have an auto timer of 80 seconds to arm themselves.

Something I feel that could make Trapper just a little strong is increasing the size of the Bear Traps hitbox in width. So, it's bigger on its sides which makes it harder or near impossible for survivors to still be able to loop around loops with traps on them, forcing them to go to a different loop. Which can also make it so that the survivors will be forced more into the open with nowhere to go, giving trapper a better chance to injure them. I also thought of a nice change is to make it so that the more traps placed/armed, certain mechanics of the trapper will be increased (sort of like Fire Up, except less strong given the amount of traps that have to be armed.)

Some ideas I had for Trapper a while back: Survivors who escape from a Trapper bear trap without assistance from another survivor suffer from a X% hindered status effect for Y seconds - This debuff is removed when fully healed or by going into the downed state. - Encourage teamwork to avoid a hindered debuff, but risk grouping up and allowing trapper to apply pressure on two survivors. Survivors within Trapper's terror radius can not see traps until they are within a X metre distance. - Makes the trapper more dangerous in chase, as a survivor will not be able to see if a loop up ahead is trapped until it's too late. - Based off of the idea of people panicking in horror movies when the killer/monster is chasing/close by, so it's a got a little immersive element to it. - Works in theme with his two base perks involving terror radius. Makeshift Traps Add-On: "Traps constructed from a variety of scavenged components, causing unpredictable injuries to anyone caught in their jaws." - Survivors caught in a Bear Trap suffer from a random negative status effect (blindness, hemorrhage, etc) until healed. If used with another add-on that applies a particular status affect, that effect will not be included in the random effects possible. - I know it's RNG but still pretty amusing. Could be another meme add-on like padded jaws if someone with better game design sense than me looked at it.

for the counterplay part of the video, disarmed traps get consumed by the entity and return to the trappers inventory (even when full) when someone gets trappend is freed, they recieve hinderd and deep wound when freeing themself but it is true that trapper balancing is truly a huge headache from the other different perspectives

The easiest way to "fix" trapper is to make 3 add-ons basekit or some variation of them. Make it so injured survivors that get trapped escape into the dying state (healthy survivors become injured with deep wounds), make it so he disarms his traps when he walks over them as it is still punishing without being too much like trapping himself, and finally make it so you injure yourself when you disarm them at basekit. He won't be great but will be way more usable without sacrificing beginner friendliness.

I think with the agitation mechanic, it should build up into a fury mode with every trap disarmed or survivor caught or setting of a trap, would build up the fury/agitation mode then in the mode a visual would be all over Trapper that way you know that he was empowered and he would get various buffs. I feel that is fair cause Myers and Oni can pop their power on anyone, and the devs think that's fair, and the buffs could be simple so beginners understand it and high mmr killers can use it to their advantage, even the counterplay works somewhat because survivors can choose not disarm traps risking stepping into in chase later or risk empowering Trapper. Good survivors may be able to loop him until the agitation mode ends, on the killer side if survivors don't disarm your traps, you have the advantage in certain chases while also being able to build your power passively by placing a new different trap, (that way someone can just spam placing the same trap to build the Mode) and survivors do disarm a trap you get points toward your power. There are still problems with this, but I think this and some other buffs could pull Trapper out of F tier

Trapper fills a very specific role as a poster child of the game and the chatacter you pla in tutorial so a lot of begginers will pick him up as a first killer. Trapper is supposed to be designed as a simple killer that introduces u to the mechanics of the game, that's his purpose. So giving him complicated mechanics would kinda ruin that

Add the red add-on, the Bloody Coil one, and make it a core mechanic with a little boost. On the first trap you disarm, you get from healthy to injured. Then, on the second trap that you disarm, you get from injured to deep wound. This way there is a penalty to try to get all of the traps on the map, even if you have a perk or map that reveals them. And if you are in deep wound you can not disarm one more, because it will get you into dying state or you can even go as far as if you try to touch a trap and disarm it while in deep wound, it fastens the bleed out timer so that even if you attept to disarm it you will get into the dying status and the trap stays on. Simple fix with no implications of new perks or mechanics in the game, only using the existing ones. Also teaches new players all of the health states and how to counter them. This way, even if you try to get all of the traps, you are constantly putting yourself into the risk of being found and get downed easy and you have to mend each time you try to disarm a new trap. It will boost the games facing solo survivors and also give an advantage against swf, compared to the state that he is in now.

The merciless storm skillchecks I feel would fit much better when trying to escape from a bear trap. You don't miss, escape in 8 seconds, every miss either removes a certain percentage or just stops the bar until you hit a skillcheck again.

Obviously the most balanced buff you could do is to have any survivor instanly be sacrificed when they step on a beartrap :) Jokes aside one idea I had is to allow the Trapper to slowly step over his bear traps when he looks down and walks over them without disarming them. This should keep the aspect of his Trapper identity of being the trap laying mastermind to remember his traps and not be careless, which making the Makeshift Wrap add-on base kit would hurt. Additionally he is a tall guy with long legs, physically he should be able to step over a bear trap when he is aware of it, that's why he should look down to keep an eye on his trap while making a big step over it. However it should not be done at his regular walking speed, instead he should do it slowly and carefully, this allows the Makeshift Wraps to still exsist as they are and it still slows the Trapper down for any survivor to get a bit more distance, potentially punishing him enough for bad or unfortunate trap placement, while not punishing him for not forgetting his traps or for being fat shamed by the map. Now I know that this might be a bit compicated for new players and that this is a new mechanic that would take time to program, but besides that I think it would really fit Trapper, even as a horror character, the tall trap laying killer would so definetly step over his own trap in a hypothetical slasher movie in a dramatic scene. Atleast to me, this ability seems like it naturally belongs to the Trapper. And with the issue of already injured survivors stepping into a trap, my idea is to simply have it take a tiny bit more time to fill the escape attempt bar, wheter the rng old way is kept or a fixed longer non-rng way like the one proposed in the vid is used.

Trapper is like TF2 Stock Melee of DBD. Basically Trapper is a basic blank slate killer that is used by Devs as a template to build off of. By buffing him too much they gonna remove Trappers niche of being "accessible to new players" and being a stock template for all killers

With the issues of procuring/camping, I heard the devs were talking about a built in deliverance if the killer is near you whilst hooked, like a meter that charges up over time. And if other survivors come close, the meter gets paused.

My personal favorite idea for buffing Trapper is giving him the ability to pick up traps from a limited distance via yanking a chain through the Fog. Despite that this is far from simple from a dev perspective, it's simple from a player perspective. In the mean time, I think having traps spawn closer to objectives and generally closer to the center of the map would be a good change no matter what.

If he had faster base movement speed, deep wound on injured survivors, and a struggle meter button mash style to get out of bear traps he could have lots of potential. These are all pretty doable as well or at least give him the faster movement speed since he is essentially a M1 killer Edit: A good idea can be to have faster movement speed and then as you pick up bear traps you get encumbered and slower

I really think he shouldn't be able to step in his own traps, at least when he's not carrying someone. Like he was the one who placed it, so he should be able to effectively step over it as opposed to stepping directly on it. While carrying someone I think it's fine because he's fighting against someone wiggling, making it harder for him to perfectly step over the traps.

The way I would start off tweaking trapper is making all traps set after a down, ability to recall one trap from any distance with a cooldown. Later on possibly allow trapper to place a trap midchase without having to stop moving (if it’s too strong then make it so full health survivors can’t be grabbed from that specific trap but will go down if injured).

Also the community isn’t asking for trapper to become nurse, just that he’s playable in the current state of the game. i think that if the traps from the trapper started open in tiles between the killer and the survivors starting positions, in strategic places (next to pallets/windows) and somewhat spread(no more than 1 trap per tile) would be ideal, this keeps the inmersion, you will need to roam if you want your traps and your own setup, but you will have somewhat of a setup you can play from the get go

I would like to see trapper get an additional power to his basekit. Something that has a gauge that can be filled when his traps are disarmed or hitting survivors. Could be called macmillin rage and using it once it full will give him a substantial boost in chase like ignoring pallets or haste status effect or instadowing. Would be cool to see

quick ideas that keep the simple aspect of the trapper while making him a lot better vs skilled survivors. 1. all traps that start on the ground start set. they may not be in good locations but a rando set trap is better than nothing, and if it needs to be disarmed early, it give the trapper some knowledge. 2. increase the time it takes to disarm the trap, it takes a trapper base 2.5 seconds to set a trap and a survivor only 3.5 seconds to disarm it, the one killer's time is much more valuable than just one of the survivor, the disarm speed should at least be 5, maybe 6 seconds, possibly with the sound notification on disarm playing halfway through. This would make it much harder for the survivors who like to follow around the trapper and disarm his traps 3. remove the trap carry limit. He can still start with 2 and the other 6 are scattered around, but can be all picked up. maybe if he is carrying 4 or more, he slows to 110% speed as an edit: I don't believe the trapper would need all of these as I listed at once. maybe some combination of them or lesser versions (carry up to 4 traps but only start with 2 or a 4 second disarm time) my thought was changes that would require as little work to implement as possible from bhvr and to keep the play and counterplay largely unchanged.

The issue with Trapper carrying more than 2 traps is that it can become impossible to win a chase against him. Even the most powerful killers have strategies against them, but a loop with 3+ traps stopping you from leaving? Not so

killers are supposed to win chases though. if a trapper wants to commit to gathering (remember, with my proposed buff, he does not start with all the traps, just his normal 2) and carrying half his traps with him and then taking the time to set 3 plus traps around a single chase, he's committed a fair bit of time to the chase before its even started. and there are lots of maps with loops that connect to each other that are a possible escape while he starts setting up. that's also why I figured he could drop to 110 speed when carrying too many traps, so if a fully loaded trapper comes after you, it would be easier to loop him untill he sets some, which is another time investment. there is also a green adding that let's the trapper carry 3 traps in the game currently that doesn't seem to be demolishing balance.

9:14 - You're right on the nose there. I have a special appreciation for Trapper. I use his perks quite often, almost in his honor. It makes me so sad that all he's gotten for years was a small buff and audio additions. There's a lot of potential ideas they could try to make him better, but nah, they're too busy doing stupid shit like trying to buff Pyramid Head's power into even more of a broken piece of crap; instead of changing their add-ons. Trapper is their mascot, he has one of the highest body counts in the lore of all the Killers in the game. He has a fascinating story. If playing him wasn't so unbearably miserable, I'd play him so much more. IDK what BHVR is smoking but he's not "balanced" or "alright." The only viable way to play him is with certain builds (unbreakable Face the Darkness totem build, -cough-) on certain maps, and even then you still have to sweat your ass off.

One fix should BVHR do is just to spawn all of the traps already set in the trial but in RNG they won't be in same place u might get lucky and u might have traps spawn set in shit areas- Also they should add a fear buff bar or a injury buff bar where he gains more speed everytime a survivor gets trapped by a bear trap and that bar stays until the survivor disarms a trap-

23:10 I'm a rookie to understanding Dead by Daylight and even I think that game mechanic isn't that complex. If you're having trouble understanding a bloody TEMP speed boost then Overwatch and many, many other FPS games would've died by now for being too complex because of that. Edit: keep in mind, temp speed boost on the beginner heroes exist.

Considering your trap spawn idea; make iridescent stone base kit, but with a longer timer (maybe 45~60). Replace it as an add-on with something that makes traps invisible to survivors with the catch being that armed traps remain untrippable unless the trapper is in chase (any survivor can be caught during this time). Now that seems a bit much after typing that out.

Like with no traps they have a 5% haste or a 2.5%with just one, that helps with him being a m1 killer and allows it to stay simple not to mention helps with getting those outlandish traps in the corner of the map

A simple consequence and benefit to the trapper would be a visual reveal of the survivor players' location when a trap is disarmed. Then, the trapper gets the choice of knowing if he wants to take the time to go there and pursue that survivor and/ or reset the trap, and also forces the survivors to weigh the benefits of disarming the trap.

One thing that's very silly about the whole design argument is that *trapper already has everything he needs to be a good killer in his addons.* You can just give him iri stone, makeshift wrap, fastening tool, tar bottle and trapper bag basekit. And he's suddenly a fine character. He has anti-loop, he has a decent number of traps. And you can *still* just walk around his traps. And you can *still* just disarm his traps. He just isn't powerless to one dipshit following him around anymore. And the best part is that his addons don't really need a rework. Iri stone now reduces the cooldown of the trap resets, makeshift wrap just makes you not set off the trap at all when you walk over it, fastening tool goes even faster, tar bottle is still useless and can just be removed from the game, and trapper bag just gives you 4 traps now. Also since maps are static now, you could just ask Otzdarva to place his traps where he'd want them to be, and then the traps spawn there. That's even better for beginners, because those starting trap placements would actually teach them where to trap.

I think they could easily fix a lot of problems with Trapper by just having his traps spawn in lockers. If you have all your traps out on the map and you want another trap, go to a locker and reload (maybe you can carry three traps or something) and then it will randomly despawn 3 of your traps on the map and put them in your possession.

I think something that would be cool is that the trapper can call upon the entity to retrieve traps that are in places you dont want in anymore but on a cooldown. Helping you waste less time setting up traps in optimal places early and late game while allowing you to physically pick up the trap yourself if you're close enough to waste less time.

Because his power is potentially killing you without even being aware you exist. He's also not a huge threat but also not fun to play against. If you turned his existing power up to 11, he'd not only be insanely oppressive but also not fun to play against whatsoever. Nurse wouldn't be a good flagship killer. Bad example of your core experience. Nor would Ultra Trapper. If you wanted to buff him, you'd need to change his power in some fundamental way. The people who just want to give him all his traps or make them auto deploy are the kind of people who don't care how miserable that may or may not make the game for a solo queue player. There are a lot of ways to improve his power but no one wants to discuss more reasonable ways to do it that BHVR may actually try.

Buff idea make it so that when survivor escape from his trap they will get slower and their blood will be released even more and pain grunts are higher. These affects are permanent and to remove these effects survivors must heal 2 health states: 1 for removing negative effects 2 for getting back the health state and his traps does not effect trapper also the 1st negative effect can be removed fast just like mending

I think he should start with 4 bear traps and be able to hold only 3 at a time base-kit. In addition to that they should speed up the trap setting animation by 0.5 seconds and reduce the penalty for stepping in your own trap by 0.2 seconds. Getting out of a bear trap shouldn't be luck based at all, I think they should be a set duration to escape from, let's say it takes 12 seconds to escape by yourself and takes 6 to 8 seconds to escape with someone's help. I also think that if these changes were implemented they would have to rework some of his add-ons so they could take that struggle effect he has base-kit right now and put it on a brown or yellow addon which would award him 50 additional bloodpoints each time a survivor struggles. Meaning he could get 50-300 additional bloodpoints per survivor that steps in a trap. They also need to remove the map items being able to detect the traps.

I think one of the ways you could buff the trapper, while nerfing some of his counter play is maybe allowing him to see the people that disarm his traps, like give an aura reveal for a couple of seconds that way he can sort of plan what he wants to do, keep chasing the person he is currently or go after the person disarming them. The second buff he would need to compensate that to help him when chasing is allow him to place traps silently or quickly. That way a survivor is either forced to leave the loop like with the skull merchant or risk stepping into one and facing the consequences. It won't make him very fun to play against but now survivors actually have to fear his traps and play around them rather than just steamrolling over them. Another thing we can give him is an addon which increases his speed if he walks into his own trap. He is still stopped temporarily but now he can sort of catch up instead of being crippled completely by walking into his own traps. Like a short temporary move speed increase.

Easy fix: 1. Trapper starts with all traps (no downside). 2. Survivors get stuck in bear trap for a fixed amount of time. 3. Survivors who disarm a trap have a chance to get caught in it instead.

Honestly, a slight change that would help a ton would just for all the traps that spawn on the map initially be armed and ready to go. That way early game set up is a bit easier since a fair few traps will already be set and the trapper can focus on specific placement (door, pallet drops, etc.) before going off to hunt.

here are two ideas for super quick buffs: 1. a minigame for trap deactivating/escaping traps for survivors - if it's simple enough it would give survivors the need to think "do I want to risk [bad thing] to disarm this trap? 2. traps start the match activated (immediate, if rng affected, pressure since you can chase survivors into where your traps already are. ) - this wouldn't be too strong or complex of a passive. edit: and since there's already a framework for my first point and it'd probably just be a boolean switch for the second I can't imagine either of these would take more than 15 minutes to implement.

I feel the community suggested decisions are valid. Considering they are working on a permanent 3-Gen solution. Also with the Anti-camping feature that was talked about. My only "different suggestion," would be the penalty of having traps at the start is the restriction of where you can place them e.g. Can't place in basement, inside of shack.

Possible changes for Trapper (Not all of these are necessary): -Bear traps require a toolbox to break. -If a survivor is interrupted whilst disarming a bear trap, they lose a health state. -Bear traps can be disarmed normally, but cause the survivor disarming them to lose a health state when finished. -Trapper has the undetectable status effect until they hit a survivor at the beginning of the game. -Trapper’s traps are entirely destroyed when disarmed, but Trapper has an infinite amount of traps carried. If a trap is triggered, it doesn’t break.

My personal take on how to buff Trapper is straightforward, mainly aimed at removing the biggest weakness his traps have, that being Good Communication (aka voice comms) rendering his traps basically unusable. Instead of starting the match just spawned in random places, adjust the traps so they will automatically set themselves whenever they are in a disarmed state (say 20-30 or so seconds, addons could be used to improve this as a new playstyle). This way, at the start of a match, its safe for survivors to run around, but after that, the traps will set themselves (justification: "The entity lets the Trapper passively do this because dark magical power" or some such), thus making Trapper even MORE new player friendly, as they won't necessarily NEED to focus on placing their traps at first and can leave them where they spawn and still get some potential value out of them. This would let new players learn the ins and outs of chase mechanics without being severely punished and would notably speed up trappers early game without making it overly complicated. All without changing ANY of his existing numbers. You don't need to make him faster, or start how many traps he spawns with, or make it easier to get his traps, nothing else. It would also mean teams using voice comms would need to Remember where a trap was and keep disarming it or else risk it catching them in spite of their communication.

Trapper is one of the most fun Killers in the game. One of my favourite Trapper builds is: Hex: Devour Hope - Nowhere to Hide - I'm All Ears - No Way Out with Trapper Sack & Honing Stone. You completely surround Hex: Devour Hope with traps and go on the hunt. After the 5th hook the game is yours.
