Plus, the adult in-joke, regardless. For goodness sake, sentient were-car Doomie (its full name is Dragster of Doom, but its shorthand name sounds like a request for sex ["Do me"]) was literally made in the vein of Frankenstein's Monster (using discarded car parts & an abnormal brain, hence the car's ability to shift into a were-car when prompted), with BJ as the hunchbacked Igor to Lydia as a female version of Dr. Victor Frankenstein, effectively making BJ & Lydia the creators/"parents" of Doomie. The cartoon still has BJ fixated on Lydia (with a shrine of her inside his mind, managed by his mild-mannered, dweeby Will Power), but Lydia herself, too, also seemed fond of "Mr. Beetleman" (as Lydia's parents referred to him as, since he appeared as a jack-of-all-trades handy man doing odd jobs for the Deetzes just to be closer to Lydia). Lydia: "A spider brooch?! Oh, I could kiss you!" ~Beetlejuice reveals his mouth full of dingy teeth & chock full of beetles~ Lydia: "But I'll just give you a big hug instead." Lydia: "Oh, Betelguese! If we can't be together this summer, I'll scream!' BJ: "Scream anyway Babes, I like having that effect on people!" ~Lydia being enamored with a Boris Karloff spoof character, prompting a jealous BJ to sulk & comment on the matter~ BJ: "And here I thought you had better taste in dead guys (obviously referring to himself)." Edgar Allen Poe: "Woe is me!" BJ: "No, Poe is you." Edgar Allen Poe: "Lost forever more!" BJ: "Yeah, yeah. We heard it all before: You lost your precious love Lenore [1] ." Edgar Allen Poe: "No! I lost YOUR precious Lydia!" BJ: "What?!" Edgar Allen Poe: "And when I lose them, I really lose them." ~Both Edgar Allen Poe & BJ cry, as the scene shifts to Lydia returning with the lost Lenore~ 1. Incidentally, the "Lenore" in question - although obviously reimagined in the _Bettlejuice_ cartoon as a teal-skinned Neitherworld female zombie archetype (strangely modeled after Winona Ryder, kind of) clearly exasperated at the famous horror novelist for his bad sense of direction (contrast this to the now more recognizable adorable little blond girl ghoul of _Lenore, the Little Dead Girl_ fame) - was, in real-life, Edgar Allen Poe's younger, 13-year-old first cousin, whom the famed horror author had a taboo fixation for, despite her still being a minor & he already having reached adulthood. BJ: "Don't worry, Babes! I'll save you from that overgrown jungle exhibit!" Lydia: "Thing Thong (an obvious KIng Kong giant ape parody) is my friend!" BJ: "That ugly thing?" Lydia: "He's not ugly, he's beautiful." BJ: "All I see is a big, ugly hairball & you see something beautiful?" Lydia: "Well, I think you're beautiful." BJ: "I believe this snotrag is yours, miss---I didn't catch your name?" Lydia (in disguise): "I didn't throw it. Come to this address... ~she rattles off a nondescript address meanwhile still clearly flirting with BJ~ ...I have a very juicy bribe to give you." BJ: "One thing still bothers me though, who was that mysterious chick in the veil?" Lydia: ~does her flirty voice~ "Darling, I thought you'd never ask." ~BJ falls over in mock shock~ BJ: "Et tu, Babes?"

We had no family or friends up there no money for child care so I spent HOURS watching this in our car in a portable camping TV with rabbit ears while my parents worked as they did construction and many of their jobs did not have a completed room that would be safe for me to play in. So mom and dad left the AC or heat on depending on the weather. I had a blanket and pillows in the back and a cooler with snacks and drinks and would camp and play with my toys and watch Beetljuce. Literally one of my earliest core memories. We were super poor but we were actually happy at that point in time. This show got me through a very tough but happy time in my childhood. @TherealRNOwwfpooh4 ай бұрын
The thing is, Burton felt The Maitlands were too dull & boring to focus an animated show around (despite their being the main characters in the 1988 film), since most people equate the _Beetlejuice_ IP overall with Burton himself (and his grimdark aesthetic), Winona Ryder's suicidal emo-turned-perky goth chick Lydia Deetz, and Michael Keaton's seedy, lecherous, faux bio-exorcist, conman poltergiest named after the red giant star in the "armpit" of the constellation Orion the Hunter more than they do anything else (sans maybe Catherine O'Hara as Lydia's modernist avant garde artiste stepmother Delia Deetz).

Hi Minty! I worked at Burger back then. The meals were officialy known as Burger King "Kid's Club" Meals. At work, we would usually just shorten it to "Kid's Meals". However they would most commonly would be referred to as BK Kid's Meals. I miss those Chicken Bites! 🐔 ❤
@AdamaSanguine9 ай бұрын
Now that I say the "official" name out loud, the "Kid's Club" part MAY explain why Burger King had access to the toys!? What, with the Fox Kid's Club Tie In etcetera. Let's not forget the Batman Returns Toy fiasco with BK too! 😮

The Burger King happy meal name was either Kids meal or Kids club meal depending the era.

There were so many jokes and puns in the series that adults like me could appreciate..

I remember really liking that show. Now that I think of it, it was one of the few shows back then that I remember that had a strong female and a strong male character. So many cartoons had strong male characters and female characters that needed rescuing...Voltron. There were some shows that had strong female characters, like Jem and the Holograms and She-ra, and some that were male dominated, but had a token female character who was strong, Ahh, Real Monsters. But the Beetlejuice cartoon had two main characters of opposite gender on equal footing powerwise and storywise.

I’m watching this cartoon right now on WBTV Cartoon Rewind on Amazon Freevee and Prime Video and that’s awesome because I haven’t watched it since 1991.

I remember running around with a friend, repeating "Beetlejuice" three times at random fire hydrants and and streetlamps in hopes that he was one in disguise.

One of a kind series...a little girl who lived with a demonic being who often takes her to hell....and she Loves it

the one thing i know about the show is how i saw this first as a kid, then watched the movie years later and realize that Adam and Barbara weren't in it nor Lydia and Beetlejuice became friends..... Also (as i want to be one of those viewers who would find error in your videos) Doomie doesn't actually talk in the show. He makes noises but don't talk

The big orange monster across the street is definitely the same orange monster in bugs bunny. The one Bugs put dynamite sticks for curlers in his hair.

Not to be too nit-picky but as a Canuck I think I should point out the animation studio's name is pronounced as Nell-Vanna. They also put out the theatrical movie Rock & Rule.

Huge Burton fan. And this show was some of his best work imo. Such a fan that I have numerous Burton characters tatt’d on my back.

I loved how most anything Beetlejuice said, happened. Like when a couple witches stole something from him, he yelled "Stop, you old bags!" The witches turned into a couple of old ladies' purses xD

Even when he lost his memory in _Forget-Me Nuts_ when he transforms, he humorously comments, "This literal translation stuff kills me! Again."

I remembered the cartoon show more than the movie, same with Ghost Busters. The movies are great, but i love the cartoon shows more.

Start the video over. Close your eyes and listen to the description of the cartoon…. Sounds almost exactly like Rick and Morty.

Some of my most favorite toys as a young kid were the official Beetlejuice toys. So naturally the cartoon was also one of my favorites for a time in the very early 90s.

I have vague memories of this. I remember the intro really well, and a lot of the characters, but next to nothing about any of the plots of any episodes. Given when the show aired though, that makes sense as I was like 2-4 years old then.

The intro animation, in particular the one done for the later half of the series still remains some of the best traditional animation I've ever seen and I frequently look it up just to marvel at how well it's done.

I loved the show as a kid. I tried revisiting as an adult in the mid-00s and it's best kept in the past. The whole thing was felt like BJ making constant 4th wall breaking puns.

Thank you for making this video! I was in 7th, 8th and 9th grade when this aired and I (and my goth best friend, lol) loved it just as much as younger kids did. As a matter of fact, now at 48 years old, I have found the cartoon series on Tubi and I"ve been binge-watching it and I enjoy it now just as much as I did way back then, but now it has a more nostalgic feel. I also loved the movie and I still do and I'm looking forward to the new one.
