The 2022, Sandra Bullock/Channing Tatum film, "The Lost City," to me, takes inspiration from "Romancing the Stone," in particular the concept of a romance-adventure novelist, played by Bullock, finding herself in an actual treasure-hunt-adventure turned romance with co-star Tatum's character of a publicity/cover-model for the books that Bullock's character writes.

I appreciate the research. You’re spot on when you say Bob is rather obsessed with movie fx and tech. I don’t think he would have done bttf 2 & 3 without the tondreau effect (computerized double-exposure). However, I think the McFly’s trans daughter played by Michael combined with the loss of Crispin and Claudia turned audiences off and caused bttf3 to suffer at the box office. Just as 7 dwarfs built the Disney studio and uphold the Team Disney building, a heart-shaped emerald powered the Delorian time machine!

Hey Minty - I really enjoy your videos & appreciate your research. RTS sang to my teenage heart [action/adventure/Romance!] & I watched it many times. I LOVE that the dancing scene was born of the the leads swept up in energy & cutting loose. No doubt filler scenes were added for continuity [Joan finding the clothes on her bed after her shower] I wanted to mention 'High Road to China' [which I totally enjoyed at the time of its release] was based on a book of the same name. That book was a based on the journals of an ancestor of writer, [Australian] Jon Cleary, who'd been a fighter pilot in WW1. I cannot recommend this book enough; the movie changed so much of his actual adventures, that the film is a baffling let down in comparison. Pls add it to your list of '10 Things' as I'd love to know more of it's background. Keep up the great work & all the best! Janet, Vancouver, Canada

It was an amazing combination! I was little and totally an Indiana Jones fan but didn’t feel a copy vibe at all. Douglas has his OWN thing very separate from Fords vibe. I remember going to see this with my mother when I was eight. I hadn't seen the trailer for it, so I didn't know what to expect, then the movie started with that western opening scene and Mum started saying she thought we'd walked into the wrong theater. Just as we were about to get up and go ask about it, the movie transitioned to Joan writing and Mum couldn't stop laughing. We both ended up loving the film, and we even bought it for the video disk player we had back then (not laserdisc, but something even earlier where the movie was on something like a record inside a plastic sleeve and you had to slide that whole sleeve into the player and pull it out, leaving the disk inside, so you could watch it, and you actually had to manually turn it over halfway through the film to see the second half). The disks were a little pricey, so we only got our favorites (the Star Wars and Indiana Jones films, Grease, and stuff like that) unless we happened to find a sale, but we loved that one so much it was worth it. We were both excited when Jewel of the Nile was announced, but both ended up being disappointed with it (in my adulthood I have gained a degree of appreciation for it, but it's nowhere near as good as Romancing the Stone). I have always wished for a third film to round it out as a trilogy (and to return to its original glory), and would still love to see one even now. Thanks for the nostalgia!
