I’ve seen a couple of different cuts of this movie. The main one being the original cut that I grew up watching but a few years ago, I saw a version that had added scenes. Some of the scenes include a scene in Dr.Mixter’s office in which he is talking to one of the nurses about second guessing his care of Laurie because he was drunk at the time. Another scene was a reshoot of the ending in which Jimmy survived. I always wandered that because he only hit his head and very well could have. In the reshoot, Laurie is helped into the back of the ambulance but when she is in, she find Jimmy lying in the back as well. She starts to cry and says to him “We made it.”. I remember another scene. When the security guard buzzes Karen in when she arrived late, he goes on a wired rant about all the murders being done by kids on drug, or something like that. It made Karen uncomfortable, him trying to chat with her. Also, I just remembered another scene in which nurse Janet was talking to another nurse (i think the blonde one) and being really creeped out about the whole Mike Myers situation. I think these scenes were both cut shoot after the film wrapped (at least the Jimmy ending felt that way) and were meant to extend the run time for a tv edited version. I have also seen a version of the original Halloween that was a tv edited version. It had a scene with Laurie and Linda hanging out in her bedroom and a scene with Loomis talking to a child Michael Myers. Does anybody else recall seeing these?
@riotangel9145 жыл бұрын
Yes, I remember both of these had hoped Minty would have touched on them. I was honestly pleasantly shocked when I saw the happy ending of the sequel on TV and actually made a VHS edit spicing the theatrical release with the TV version.

Yeah i think those extra scenes are included in some of the TV versions, the version with Jimmy in the ambulance at the end is not shown as often though...he pops his head round from the front of the ambulance when Laurie is sat in the back at the end. In the first movie there are extra scenes where Loomis is asking the doctors not to move Michael because he is dangerous and also a scene with Loomis visiting Michaels room that he escaped from and it is all smashed up, if i remember correctly the word "sister" is painted on wall too which must have been filmed during Halloween II and added to the first movie later

I love Halloween and Halloween II, people were ok with having the first movie as you didn’t know why Michael was going back to Haddonfield or why he was going after Laurie. Then II came out and you find out they’re siblings and wanted to finish her off like his other sister, but it left a lot of the mystery as why this happened and who was this kid/man and why he was doing this. I understand the necessary gore as it wouldn’t have been as scary and horror now dominated the cinema. It has the perfect ending with Lommis blowing himself and Michael up, Michael walking out of the fire and collapsing soon after, gave me the creeps as a kid. I would’ve been happy with the two movies, its tells a story of that horrible night on Halloween in 1978, I wish Season Of The Witch has been better, I like the concept of having different stories taking place in this Halloween universe. Great review as always, Minty, look forward to your next review.

Also by that logic that his first kill was his sister makes absolutely no sense because he killed all sorts of people other than his siblings in the first movie…in the first movie he returned to his house and latched on the JLC because she dropped the key off. It clearly had nothing to do with them being siblings. So to answer your condescending query about how people could possibly disagree with your opinion the answer is logic. Logic is why people don’t like a twist that was drunkenly pulled out of thin air and had caused basically every single issue they have had with writing the series from that point forward. But hey you like it so what do I know?

I was watching a documentary on the making of the first Halloween movie and there was a piece in the doc that talked about where the "sister" angle came from. Well just before the filming of "Halloween II" the first "Halloween" was to premiere on a TV network (can't remember if it was ABC or NBC) and with the commercials the movie was around 10-15 minutes short of the 2-hour mark. So the execs at the TV network asked if they had any other footage to add to make it two hours. Back then having your movie play on a major network was a big deal so John Carpenter and company came up with the idea of Laurie Strode being Michael's sister. So while they started shooting "Halloween II" they shot the additional scenes to be added for the airing of "Halloween" on tv. I believe if you look it up you can find all these additional clips on KZbin.

Nice review Minty. But I'm surprised that you didn't bring up the fact that Halloween 2 has two versions. The theatrical release, plus the TV version. The TV version of Halloween 2 has some added scenes that were never before seen in the theatrical release that many people believe should have been included in the theatrical plus home video release of the film that would have made more sense. What makes the TV version of Halloween 2 interesting is the radical way scenes are re-edited and moved around in order to create an entirely different viewing experience. For example in the theatrical version the first scene after the credits is from Michael Myers point of view as he walks down alley ways hiding from Dr. Loomis (who had just shot him) . You don't see him kill the neighbor girl who came out to investigate the old lady screaming in the TV version. Also you see Laurie Strode being taken to the hospital at the start after the credits which is a really important piece because it makes the movie feel more about Laurie than it is about Michael. You see her arrive at the hospital, get stripped down to her bra, then we join Dr. Loomis and the sheriff as they drive around looking for Michael. That scene was exclusive to the TV version and not the theatrical. I mean the TV version includes a lot of deleted scenes between the nurses and the the doctors stuff that fleshes out their characters that makes them seem like real people instead of just fodder for Michael to slash. In the TV version we also get more scenes with Laurie which again is a good thing because one of the major criticisms of Halloween 2 is how the character of Laurie who was so resilient and heroic in the first film is now a catatonic who spent the whole movie of Halloween 2 laying in a hospital bed... This is clearly one of Jamie Lee Curtis's minor efforts as an actress... Especially a scream queen. Another welcome addition to the TV version of Halloween 2 is a new scene in which Laurie freaks out convinced that Michael Myers is coming to get her and she is forcibly sedated which would explain why she spends the rest of the movie stumbling around like a drunk. In the theatrical version she is just suddenly catatonic for no apparent reason. and because of that new seen that the TV version included her acting now makes sense. I mean not all of the TV changes to Halloween to were beneficial some didn't really make much sense and weren't necessary. Another oddball change concerns the paramedic Jimmy (played by The Last Starfighter)... In the TV version he is still wandering through the halls while Michael Myers is coming after Laurie and dr. Loomis. I mean you would think that Jimmy would hear all the screens in the door is breaking and and gunshots. When dr. Loomis flicks his BIC the reverberations of the explosion knock poor Jimmy out (why he lands in the pool of blood is anyone's guess) however in most recent TV versions of Halloween 2 when that scene occurs the blood is edited out. While the theatrical version ends with Lauriei in the ambulance looking grumpy thinking about her psychopathic brother burning to a crisp the TV version finishes up with a "Love American style ending" in which Laurie reunites with Jimmy having survived hitting his head and romance is in the air (wink wink nudge nudge, say no more) lol... And I suppose that eventually led to the birth of Jamie in Halloween 4 and 5. Well everybody, that was a few bonus facts about Halloween 2.... See ya!

I do like this film, sure it does give me chills every time I'm in a hospital though. But, I guess that's what type of impact that movie gave me. And that NECA gave us a figure of Michael Myers from that movie, so yay Michael Vs Jason on my shelf. WOO!

@AQUA NEON Agreed, but that's how horror movies work it takes a setting that is so mundane and just flips in 180 degrees of creepiness.

@jamesgarrett88335 жыл бұрын
Mike Irish you have the right to love what you love, but I hate the brother/ sister twist because it does not make any sense. It was very bad writing because in the first movie Michael Myers is a psychopath who stalks baby sitters. Laurie Strode was just some random woman he choose to stalked. But the second movie is telling us that random woman is his long lost sister. How did Michael know he had another sister? Better yet how did Michael Myer know what his baby sister would look liked
@WilliamBKeck5 жыл бұрын
@@jamesgarrett8833 How does Michael keep get off the ground after being filled with bullets or stabbed or blown up? What reason did he have to start killing people in the first place? Watching his sister brush her hair naked just set him off! This isn't exactly based on a true story. He's pure evil. Maybe he had some psychic link. Or maybe you're thinking way too much.

Halloween II 1981 is my favorite in the series. I feel the Michael character is at his best, and Loomis just steals the show. I wish it wasn't so divisive among the fans.
@RyccoLamar5 жыл бұрын
This movie gave the storyline some character. Without the addition of the “sibling side story” it loses its purpose. I started watching the Halloween movies when I was 7, and back then I’d thought he was chasing and obsessed with Laurie because she’d come to his home early that day before school and that would be the exact extent of the story had they not made the sequel and created the sibling addition. He would’ve broken out and returned to Haddonfield to kill for absolutely no reason.

@Chunky Bugger well, actually (coming from the last year of the baby boomers 1964) the first Halloween was released October 25 1978 and Halloween 2 in October 1981. Halloween is an awesome original… Halloween II is a very ideal sequel. The vibe with II to me is “ITS ABOUT TO GET REAL…! Oh shit!” The aftermath of the first movie, background music edging and intensifying… (especially when chasing Laurie) , the gore, the body count and the sibling touch between Laurie and Michael, to me, was a good route to go! Michael must’ve killed 10 more people in the sequel chasing Laurie! It just isn’t complete without Halloween II in my eyes!

Correction: Carpenter always intended each film in the franchise to be a self contained story. The whole franchise was meant to be an anthology series. However, the studio demanded the first sequel have Michael Myers. Then the third was made, but didn't perform well, so they went back to using Myers for the sequels.

I loved this movie. Does anyone remember the scene where the mother takes her boy to the hospital because someone put a razor blade in his candy? The towel fell and you could see the blade in the kid's mouth. That was gruesome.
@mikemartin3544 жыл бұрын
Someone else finally mentioned it. I was about the same age as the boy in the movie. This is a relatively irrelevant scene except for the fact that most kids and parents were terrified of this at the time as it was based on what was happening in the country...razor blades being put in candy. What's worse is what developed from that the very next year. In 1982, the mass recall on Tylenol which was laced with arsenic. Strange times and perfect stories for horror movies.

I loved Dick Warlocks version of Michael Myers! In my opinion he did the best job keeping Michael's eerie mannerisms. Was he copying the original? Of course he was, that was his job and he did it masterfully. I met him at a horror con. The only knock on him by others was he wasn't tall enough. While that may be true I saw a dude crush it!

2 was good entertainment, but I couldn't get over the monotony of the hospital, Jamie Curtis wig, and not to mention the idea there were only 6 to 7 employees working in the entire hosptial, just was too nonsensical and not believable for me. The Shape was scary enough, but there was something off about the mask as mentioned, it didn't fit this guys head as well. And his walk, just wasn't as good as the original. I also missed the piano music from the original.
