One of the most famous works that everyone thinks was written by Bach - but wasn't. Minuet in G. Actually written by Christian Petzold, it was compiled together with other works in the well known 'Notebook for Anna Magdalena Bach' by Bach and his wife Anna Magdalena. In the book, no composer to the work was given so for hundreds of years the world thought this was a composition by Bach himself. In the 1970s however, it was discovered that this is not the case. Enjoy ♥

31 years old and just learnt the first phase of this. You're never too old to start learning piano. 😊 Just started playing 2 months ago because I really wanted to be able to play Moonlight Sonata first movement. I've learnt like the first 40 seconds but I am maybe a little bit out of my depth with that so trying to master some simpler pieces and improve technique before I carry on with that. I'll get there though. Been practising every day for at least an hour.

This was the very first piece that I learned. I learned playing by ear when I was like 10. We didn’t have money to pay for consistent proper piano lessons. Sometimes, I would attend free classes at church during summer. My mom saved up and bought a casio keyboards for my graduation. She knew I really loved playing. I would practice playing this every single day. Life went on and I got preoccupied with school, uni, then work. I still can’t play “properly” but I can still play the ones that I learned many years ago - this one, pathetique, canon, etc. I think that I was able to achieve my dreams and helped my family get out of poverty. Listening to this piece, I feel nostalgic as I remember our financial struggles and my parents trying their best to provide. It’s not a sad nostalgia but a delightful one, like the melody of this piece.

I spent a couple hours on this today and learned all the way up to the 0:18 mark with somewhat choppy but relatively smooth play. I have about 3 weeks worth of practice under my belt putting in multiple hours a day (with a few breaks in between). My only prior experience is playing guitar hero at expert difficulty (I think the finger dexterity translates to piano a little bit). This is the first time i've really had the feeling of playing something substantial like a pianist. I really enjoyed practicing this song! Thank you

I’ve only been playing 4 days, put in between 3-8 hours a day so far, almost done with my beginners book, and this is the first real piece I’m adding to my memory. I’ve almost got the first page of it down, I feel like the rest of it will be easy breezy once I do. I’ve been obsessed lol

Thank you for posting this wonderful music. My name is Gavri'el and I think it's exciting that in our research we found that we may be a descendant of Christian Petzold as my family comes from Germany. My mom was a wonderful and talented organist in the Church here in the USA for many years. I was always amazed at how she would play the organ so well. And it's interesting that Christian was an organist too. According to history records it shows that Bach's eldest son replaced Christian as the organist at the Church in Germany when he passed on. Wish there was more music that could be found of Christian Petzold's work today. This generation would be blessed to discover the richness of these famous composers of the past. Bach and Christian along with many others of the Baroque period have inspired me to compose as well. Thanks again for posting this beautiful music! - Gavri'el

Isn’t it astonishing to think that the short, simple trill is the product of 3-6 months of piano practice? I remember the effort it took me to develop the independence required and finally be able to trill at ease.

I bought my Yamaha keyboard 5 days ago, I got straight onto this piece, I saw the simplied version of this in adult piano adventures, but I downloaded a more original copy online, it looks so easy, just a few notes, boy was I wrong, I'm 4 days in and have gotten as far as measure 8, the lower mordents I mastered just from doing them a few hundred times, I figured if I'm going to play jazz and blues then I'll need to be fast at these types of baroque ornaments, riffs and licks for other genres etc..

@@markE946 Minuet in g is truly one of the most fun pieces to ever play. There are tons of more interesting pieces that I like better but in my opinion, those pieces aren’t as enjoyable to play. There’s just something about playing this specific selection of notes which is incredibly enjoyable, that I keep returning to it when I’m bored (I do confess that I play it at an incredibly fast-paced tempo until all the musicality is ruined but butchering the music like that brings the most enjoyment when playing)
