I love how the two Korean translations of Holy Night (Catholic and Protestant) differ in such a way French and German ones do; Catholic one goes “성탄, 성탄” just like “Noël, Noël” and Protestant one goes “오 거룩한 밤” just like “O heil'ge Nacht”

Very proud that it was sang for the first time in North America in the little Sillery church near where I live in Quebec City. This song is so important to French-Canadians that it might literally be their national anthem. No joke. A Christmas hymn as a national one... "People, wait for your freedom" Seems about right to me, under the lights of Frontenac's Castle.

I first got to know this song from a South African church choir's album. The chorus gave me chills. It was the English version, which I also really like, although the translation isn't always true to the original French version, which I found out about only after researching the origins of this wonderful carol. For some reason, I had to listen to the song just now and was excited when this video popped up, since I really love your channel. Not only was this the first time I got to hear the song in German, my native language, but it was a beautifully translated version that stays true to the French original! Thank you for making my evening :)

Joyeux Noël ! Merry Christmas everyone! Ingen, just one problem. I think that in 1:13 it's Attend ta délivrance, not attends, because it says people on their knees await your deliverance, which means that the subject of await is the people ie third person singular (le peuple). So, its suffix has to be in that same person as well. Attends is first/second person singular, while attend is the 3rd person.
@minimomario99894 жыл бұрын
No, the original text reads "attends ta délivrance" with the added s, so therefore it shall be attends.

@georgios_53424 жыл бұрын
@@rachelpltx7398 I know the "impératif" but I think that for it to be applied, we would need no subject to be apparent and a 2nd person singular meaning. Here, we have the apparent subject being "le peuple", which is in the 3rd person plural. How can you use the "impératif" this way?

You should listen to the great Swedish tenor, Jussi Björling, singing it in his native tongue. Similar lyrics, similar title (O Helga Natt). Similar swell, and he sings it in E major instead of the usual Eb. The last "Natt" is a high B which he holds for a few beats.

@mikeprevost8650 just did and "woah, holy shit," was my vocal response. Tissue required. Even sent it to my son, who I feel will now have a bigger appreciation of this stuff now that he's taken a couple of years of choir and singing lessons. He won't be singing this, however. He's a bass baritone. -_-
