I have owned 2 POC MIPS helmets. Just yesterday my latest POC took a direct hit from a car that ran a red light across me. I got up and walked away. My first POC also suffered in a road crash and I walked away. I ride with a helmet because accidents do happen and the POC has proven itself to me. My other past head bangs with lesser helmets all ended with minor concussions. I'm sold and they are super comfortable.

Great review. I already use POC for their MIPS Fornix ski helmet and nice to know its deep fit also extends to bike helmets.

Good and thorough review. Was looking at the Overtake, but didn't think about lack of place to put glasses - not going to buy the matching Smith glasses, have three other glasses already.

Great review. Very detailed and objective. Would love to see one for the Giro Synthe MIPS. Also Oakley Radar are probably the most common glasses around. Rather than docking POC or Smith shades in the vents, how about a pair of Radar?

The Smith Overtake is more of a Road Helmet... The Forefront is more of a Mountain Bike helmet. You might look at the SMITH Rover MIPS helmet for off road use. The POC is great if you have a narrow/more oval head shape. For those with a more round shaped head, the SMITH are much more comfortable in my opinion.

My 2011 Specialized Propero II has the same strap system as the POC and it´s not even the high end model, so much for innovation....besides, it does look like a really expensive diaper Nice review

You still using this Poc helmet? Seems like it is being replaced by another style?
@ForbinColossus8 жыл бұрын
I would not choose either of those. For MIPS, I'd pick the Bell Super 2 or b/c MIPS tech is of debateable value, I'd go for the Troy Lee A1. If you want face protection,, wider forehead area of the POC is nada compared to full face or a convertible helmet like Bell Super 2R.

Considering the POC helmet. Can someone tell me how the straps are taken off the helmet? I like to take my straps off occasionally to give them a good wash. How easy they are to put on and off is important to me.

Another example of overcharging cyclists. Over 200 pound for a helmet that I doubt costs more than 30 to produce. BikeRadar, why do you keep showing these rip-off products to the average Joe? Why don't you find out the production costs on many of these high end products? That's something I'd LOVE to see!
@bikeradar8 жыл бұрын
+adriboff1 Production costs will be a highly guarded secret. We could speculate, but nobody is going to give us precise information that we could report. We cover a lot of high-end products because a large section of our audience finds it interesting, even if they're not planning to actually spend £200 on a lid. More basic helmets will be better value for money obviously, but without all the bells and whistles they're not so interesting to talk about.

+Neo Quello WELL SAID! I feel like a lone voice when I complain about the cost of such things. Nice to know others share my view.
@andrewhood11028 жыл бұрын
+adriboff1 the price of the helmet includes a lot more than just physical production. clearly there is a lot of design and prototyping that goes into these. do you expect the people who do that work to do it for free? also, these are top of the line helmets. there are plenty of helmets that are affordable, but have technology that hasn't changed at all in 15 years. what would a video like that look like? get off your ass and go to your bike store if you want to learn about helmets
@CyclingSalmon148 жыл бұрын
secrate my arse!! The cost of meterial will be nothing, total production fairly low, but you have to thinking about the entire companys running overheads like marketing and paying the staff and faciltys ect...even then the cost is likely only 1/8th to 1/4 of the sale price but hay people pay it so they will charge it.

how about the Giro Synthe MIPS lid? this POC is really ugly and mushroom looking
@gnawershreth7 жыл бұрын
A lot of POC's products look great and seem to get good reviews, but to charge that much more than competitors who have been around since before POC founders were born seems ridiculous. It doesn't just go for their helmets either. Apparently POC managed to become top of the line in everything they sell in just 12 years (they're from 2005 iirc) surpassing companies who've been making helmets, joint protection, clothing, sunglasses etc. for 50+ years. Amazing, isn't it? I really do wonder what you're paying that much more for when buying their products, is it just yet another "Scandinavian design" marketing hype/scam thing as we see all over Scandinavia these days or what? I am Scandinavian and their stuff doesn't look anymore Scandinavian than Giro's, Bell's or what have you. lol

+gr0bbelaar says: "Yes, if they didn't, there would be a market for more aerodynamic/better ventilated/ lighter ones." == People often buy those stuff just for showing off, They buy it because that's what pros wear. While pros wear anything that's given to them by the sponsors. Have you ever heard of any race decided by the helmets they wear?
@andrewhood11028 жыл бұрын
+allgoo19 have you ever done a century on a hot day? having a well ventilated helmet will make your ride way more comfortable.
@allgoo19648 жыл бұрын
+Andrew Hood says: "have you ever done a century on a hot day? having a well ventilated helmet will make your ride way more comfortable." == Yes, I have. The heat never bothered me but the sweat running down on my face did. I solved the problem without changing the helmet. I've had only one of those racing helmet with many vents(than other helmets), I used only once and it stayed in the storage until the sponges started degrade. Has aerodynamics of the helmet helped you in anyway, by using one of those pointy back helmets? Have you ever tried any other types of helmet for long ride in hot weather? You must have very limited experience.
@allgoo19647 жыл бұрын
Maca says: "Better aerodynamics, weight, comfort, adjustability and safety are all aspects of helmets......." == Except the weight, how did you measure that? Maca says: "It's better to be 1st than 2nd...." == Cyclists actually use their helmet for the race are extreme minority in the market. I've been to some local racing events and had some talk with some of the racers about their equipment but nobody ever mentioned to me that the helmet decides the race, or one more advantageous than others. Before the use of helmet had become a mandatory by rule, nobody used it. I have seen Lance Armstrong came onto Oprah show and quoting he would wear any helmet he was given by the sponsor and that he's not a great believer of new technology (they say) put into the helmet that includes aerodynamics. I assume he believes more on the effects of drugs.
