The performance at Sonisphere 2014 is known among Babymetal fans as "The Miracle at Sonisphere" because it became one of the most important performances of their career. It their first big international tour in the west, and Sonisphere was just a few weeks after Gimme Chocolate went viral around the world and they started to receive serious international attention. They were originally slated to appear on a smaller side stage at the festival, but after Gimme Chocolate went viral, and following an outpouring on fan support online, they were moved to the main stage in front of a crowd of around 50,000. Most of the audience didn't know who they were and they were worried how the crowd would react given that UK festival crowds are notoriously unfriendly if they don't like what they are seeing. In subsequent interviews, the girls have said that while there were some nerves, they were mostly excited to get in front of a big crowd and show what they could do. They played a 30 minute, five song set (Babymetal Death, Gimme Chocolate!! Catch Me If You Can, Megitsune, and Ijime Dame Zettai), and by the time it was over, the crowd was chanting "We want more! We want more!", they sold more merch than any other band on the bill that weekend, and they were the talk of the festival. They showed that they could deliver a real live metal show and win over a hardcore metal crowd; it was the moment that Babymetal arrived as a real metal act. Sonisphere was the beginning of a long and special relationship with the UK for Babymetal, who often call it their second home due to the warn reception they always receive when they go there. They have done a number of memorable performances in the UK and had some big moments of their career there.

Love your BM reactions, they are so fun and also insightful, thank you again! This set was a huge launching point for the band. They ended up opening for Metallica, RHCP, Lady Gaga, and also became the first Japanese band to play Wembley in the UK largely if not entirely from this performance. Skyrocketed from there. This is obviously hyperbole, but what they did at this festival was impossible. They were bumped up from playing a 1k-ish side stage where their fans would be -- to the 55k-ish main stage, where relatively speaking nobody really knows who they are. They are singing in Japanese, a trio of 16yo ish girls fronting the band. The crowd is there for metallica, iron maiden, anthrax, and similar. They get this kawaii japanese metal group set, and BM / Su-Metal just crush the performance from the first second to the final second of their set, win the crowd over, and leave to arguably the most rambunctious metal crowd in the west chanting for more. When Su-Metal waves to the crowd at the very end her stage-facade breaks for just a moment from the joy of it all, one of three times i've seen that across hundreds of live performances.

this song isn't performed much outside of japan. when i saw babymetal last year, i went to the final show of the u.s. tour. normally they end the show with "road of resistance" followed by the "we are babymetal!" yell, and "see you!", but that night they didn't do it. instead the stage went dark, and i knew we were getting an encore. the piano started, su came out singing the opening of "ijime, dame, zettai", and the crowd roared. it was the only time on the u.s. tour they performed it. i felt honored to be there.

Song is about anti bullying. I was bullied alot in school. So much I dropped out and finished with home schooling. Combining that with this is arguably the most important performance internationally ever for Babymetal makes this my favorite. Can you do Akatsuki UNFINISHED live version? I like both versions but unfinished hits me different emotionally Thank you!

I tear up every time I watch Su in Akatsuki Unfinished. As soon as her voice breaks when she is choking back her tears it crushes me every time. Lyrically, I feel it is perhaps Babymetal's most beautifully written love song. Who would have believed that a girl who turned 16 the day before this concert, could deliver a performance embedded with so much emotion and lyrical imagery. Just to experience the beauty of some of the lyrics: " ... In the silence, the two damaged blades stand face to face. Our loneliness and our uneasiness, slash even our hearts ...". Words from a girl about to lay down her life for the greater good. Damn, I am tearing up just writing this hahaha. Jaron, should you want to react to it, here is a good quality version of the song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKjWmqGjrbmrmNE

Excellent reaction & analysis, again, Thanks! I just wanted to remark that what you watched here was almost a "miracle", given how harsh that particular crowd can be if the artists don't match their expectations. Walking off the stage while the crowd was chanting for more is just an epic win. About the final section, we discussed it before and I believe that it's a separate outro which also includes a glorious key change. Personally, "IDZ" is one of my favorite songs and they rarely perform it live today. I traveled 400 miles each way just for the possibility that they did. It was totally worth it. 😁 🤘🦊

Excellent reaction again - you must have posted this just after I went to bed ... I expect I will be repeating everything you were already told. I apologise if that is so. This is one of the most important BABYMETAL performances (maybe even the most important). They still talk about Sonisphere 2014 in interviews today as being the moment they believed their music could break barriers and that they would be accepted by the metal community. This was their first "world" tour. They had played 2 small venues in Paris and in Cologne/Koln where Yui and Moa celebrated their respective 15th birthdays (Su was 16) and now they were in the UK for the very first time at their first metal festival, their first major event outside of Japan and the biggest crowd (over 50k) they had played to. Originally they had been booked to play a small side stage or a tent with maybe a couple of thousand people, but the video for 'Gimme Chocolate' had gone viral and they were attracting attention. They had a show booked for London a couple of days later that had sold out so fast it was moved to a bigger venue - and that sold out fast as well. With just a couple of months notice they were told they would be playing on the main stage as the second act at Saturday around midday. On social media some gatekeepers who had seen the first 30 seconds of the 'Gimme Chocolate' video were not happy - they didn't like that this "gimmick, joke, novelty, money-grabbing manufactured group" had been invited to Sonisphere at all. To hear they would be on the main stage had them foaming at the mouth, punching the walls in their basements, crying into their pillows and posting threats to throw bottles of p155 and boo them off stage ... fortunately that never happened. From back stage BABYMETAL couldn't see the crowd, they were worried what they would do if there was nobody at all there to see them. They walked on stage to a sea of puzzled faces - over 50k UK metalheads. Su saw the faces and thought to herself "This will be fun. let's knock it out of the park." They had about 25 minutes, just 5 songs, to try to impress this crowd. Su had some of them trying to sing along with her in Japanese in the second song - 'Gimme Chocolate'. 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' was the last song of the set ... did you see the smile on Su's face as she waved after her final "We are"? It is always so good to hear the calls from the crowd of "We want more!" and "One more song!" BABYMETAL had the biggest mosh pits of the weekend, their merch outsold every other band playing that weekend (among them were Anthrax, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Avenged 7fold, Slayer and so many more big names). IDZ was the second song they had ever played live - that was in 2011. It was not released until quite a bit later and not before another less "traditional" metal song or two had been released. The lyrics are deep too, talking about the bullies not being the only problem, but those who stand by and pretend not to notice, doing nothing to help or stop it, being just as bad ... they didn't start to get deep after starting with only fun songs for girls, they always had that mix.

Great reaction! That´s how to win over a 55k British Metalhead crowd, most of them never heard of BABYMETAL before, when you are just 16, 15, 15 years old. Without a big stage, without a hell of a light show, without any stage gimmicks. Just good music, and top notch crafts(wo)manship. This was their breakthrough concert in the West, often called "the miracle of Sonisphere". First festival performance outside Asia, and at the beginning of their first world tour. Some days before that, Yui and Moa did the first "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" performances by their own (second half of the song). Yui in Paris, France, Moa in Cologne, Germany. Both venues for about 1.5k people max. When they leave the stage in the IDZ video, Moa is first, Yui is last 😉

The chorus on this track is one of those choruses that gets better and better with each listen. It's not as immediately hooky as some other tracks because the melody dips into unexpected notes but on repeat listens it hits harder because it's not a typical melody. It's hard to put it into words but I love songs that leave room to grow on you. It's those songs that don't standout as much on a first listen but then you catch yourself thinking, "damn, this song is amazing" a couple weeks later, lol.

There used to be a separate video of the soundcheck that I could no longer find, it was a different kind of epic because they had problems with the tech and the show was almost cancelled but nevertheless the check was done by the Kami band and the crowd went crazy for some of their solos already. That was the moment the smartphones appeared and everybody was looking up BM.

Awesome! This was an incredible moment for Babymetal, as it was their very first time on a major international stage, and a true metal festival at that (Iron Maiden was the headliner that day). Unlike later in their career, the vast majority of the audience had no clue who Babymetal were. This was their closer, and they absolutely crushed their 5-song set and won over a big portion of the 50K+ confused UK metalhead crowd, leaving them cheering "we want more!". I can't imagine being able to pull that off at such a young age (14-16 years old). Actually, most Babymetal's officially mixed live performances have guitars to L and R audio. I do find that amazing as well! _Suggestions:_ *Catch Me If You Can (Budokan 2014):* Slipknot, but cute, with an awesome Kami East intro. *YAVA! (Legend MM 2024):* Fun and groovy ska-metal song about "being different". With an amazing Kami West intro. 🤘🦊

Here began world domination! First show outside of Japan I believe and they were scheduled for a side stage but ended up on mainstage, unsure of how they would be received by a UK metal audience - not always the most forgiving. As you see, they needn't have worried!
@autohmae3 ай бұрын
1st world tour, they had 2 shows before this, 1 to celebrate Yuimetal's birthday (France, a more anime focused crowd) and 1 to celebrate Moametal's birthday (Germany, a more metal crowd). First performance in the UK. It was the first metal festival outside of Japan and that 1st world tour is the first time outside of Asia. At the time their biggest crowd ever. Their first music festival outside of Japan as well. They had been to anime conventions in Asia, the closest thing to a festival outside of Japan. And they performed at Loud Park in Japan in 2013, basically the only some what large metal festival in Japan. And Sonisphere put Babymetal on the mainstage after their tickets for their own headline UK show had sold out fast and they actually moved venues to a larger venue and still sold out fast. From an interview (translated 81JAPAN 2015 Spring): Q: Then the UK. Sonisphere was one of the most impressive experiences in your life, Kobametal-San? Kobametal: It's so tough in many ways. Prosesses in a festival are quite different from Japan. There is usally no time for soundchecking. They just say "Do it," once settings are done. And they are very strict about time. We would get a penalty or they shut power down when we misses the time. So we were careful about it. Q: I was there. Were you guys did soundckeck a lot, right? Kobametal: We did it with having a lot of warnings. We had no idea what to do at first so Kami Band member did it by themselves but it was not allowed. Time counting started from the second when performers were on the stage so they told we already consumed ten minutes. Our set list had some margin so we managed to finish our soundcheck. Backyard was in emergency really. Q: You got trained through these situations. Kobametal: A lot. As an example start positions of Yuimetal and Moametal at the intro of Ijime, Dame, Zettai can't be determined until checking in a rehearsal. But we couldn't do the check so it was one-shot. Only we could do was we got pictures of the stage before, told the two their positions in these pics, then they positioned by themselves on the stage in their performance. We really learned a lot. We also had to check in-ear monitors in a short period of time. Q: On the stage Moametal got no sound from her in-ear monitors, right? Kobametal: Monitors of someone might have gotten no signal, I think it became all right in a middle of it. The same would have happened to Kami Band member, they said "performed by instinct." Q: Professional they are.

Oh, thank you very much for accepting my suggestion. Your channel is one of the best among reactors, thanks to its authenticity, objective, and precise comments. It’s a pleasure to watch your work. Given your success, I believe other viewers have noticed these virtues and qualities as well. That Babymetal performance is unforgettable for me (and for many others fans). It featured the original lineup of Babymetal, with Su, Yui, and Moa, along with the more personalized Kamiband lineup from Japan, with master Mikio on guitar. The Babymetal girls could have lived an ordinary teenage life, but they chose Rock, Metal, and hard work from a young age. They have been on the road for 14 years now. They continued to study alongside their career. At the same age, I was just watching cartoons and playing outside. I barely knew how to get around the city. They started traveling professionally abroad, away from their parents and friends. Even more so, at this festival, they faced a headbanging audience that had never seen a band with three dancing girls on stage singing in... Japanese! The risk of a negative reaction was high. The festival promoter reluctantly invited Babymetal because he did not recognize them as a metal band. The time slot and stage were improvised. Yet, they faced this huge challenge with courage and delivered that unforgettable performance! To me, it’s a great lesson and always moves me to watch. Anyway, thank you once again. A future suggestion: “Catch Me If You Can,” from the phase with Yui in the trio and master Mikio on the Kamiband guitar. I wish you success and happiness, always.

like other have said, this is the main break out concert that made people find babymetal outside of Japan. They had done other concerts before this, but us brit metal fans are notoriously critical of bands, and they owned this set. It was even meant to be a side show, but instead they got 60,000 in the audience. At the end the audience was shouting for more, and you can see for a moment 11:06 even Su-metal was on awe of what they had done . It was the last of 5 songs, the first "death" consisted of the audience watching with WTF. Then as the concert went on there was more and more buy in from the audience, by this last one, they had won over the UK. There was even a problem with the ticker for , I think, with the first song Moa and it was not working and so she had to wing it using the beat of the drum. What where you doing at at that age.

Might be able to save Grington's keyboard somewhat on this one lol. As someone has already said, the choreography shows a fight, which of course has lots of moving parts to it. The song title translates to Bullying, No More, Forever. Was practically the international stepping stone for Babymetal. Initially slated for a side stage, they were bumped up to the main stage relatively on short notice after their song Gimmie Chocolate went viral. As you saw, they won the crowd over and now consider the UK as a second home for their concerts. Maybe I will recommend one of the underrated and good Japanese musicians with the Math Rock & Progressive Rock genre, namely Sokoninaru.

1:30 the term you're looking for is 'crescendo' I think I agree that IDZ is a great closer, probably their best closer outside of special performances like Babymetal Death in the finale of Legend 1997. It's just a solid old-school power metal banger with lots of interesting variety in the songwriting and a good positive message. I'm still gonna recommend Headbanger (and Akatsuki unfinished and Babymetal Death if you're up for the full triptych) from Legend 1997 next, but there are obviously other solid options as well - the regular version of Akatsuki from Budokan Black Night if you want more power metal, Maya live at Babymetal Begins (from the official channel) if you want to check out another more recent song from them, Catch Me If You Can also at Budokan Black Night (a lot of the older shows get copyright blocked, which is why you'll mostly see recs for Legend 1997 and Budokan Black Night for their older songs) if you want more C H O N K

Some say this was the moment BABYMETAL put their feet in the door, this was the show where they entered the international heavy metal scene. I think they are wrong. Instead, this was the moment they kicked the door open, and they have never left the room since.

@@jarongeil-vocalcovers2484 As all of Babymetal's songs are choreographed, you find ver little variation in the performances. Even audience call and response are "written" into the songs (although not necessarily present in the studio releases).

If you want to see the origins of japanese heavy metal, you need to check out X Japan. They are THE grandfathers of Japanese metal and rock, and influenced Babymetal and a lot of the current Japanese music scene too regardless of genres. check out Kurenai from the Last Live.
