I tried this on my amp and it worked a treat. No more crackling when I turn the knobs. Thanks!

Drain the caps, Play the guitar' keep playing while you power the amp off' play until you hear no sound and about 5 seconds past that for safe measures.

Nice informative video! I have a second hand Marshall MB15 with this issue, and am considering fixing it myself, as very few guitar techs here deal with amps (I only know of one and it is hard to get there from my office), and the fix is probably worth more than the amp itself. Might try fixing it tonight when I get home or tomorrow, but I wonder, does this fix apply to transistor amps as well as tube amps?

This will work on solid state (transistor) amps, too, yes. JUST BE VERY CAREFUL not to touch any electronic components. You can still get zapped really hard by an amp that isn't plugged in.

@@stringedaz Thanks! When I get the time I'll try it, carefully of course

Nice vid!!! I have the same issue on my hot rod deville 410. Is it the same if I just pour the cleaner through the top.. directly to the knob???? Instead of having to remove back panel etc.

I've done it on a number of amps, and it is usually the same procedure! Good luck!

Turn the amp off, unplug the amp. Run a jumper wire between ground and pins 1 or 6 of any preamp tube. Turn the amp on. Wait two or three minutes. The capacitors will be drained of any harmful voltage. Check with a voltmeter on DC to be sure.

Good show. 🙂👍I'm currently getting static here on KZbin with slow video loading that sounds just like a dirty pot. Damned You Tube.

No, it’s not the same thing. You have to get contact cleaner.

@@stringedaz you mean after ? I see only old electrolitics there
@stringedaz11 ай бұрын
@@fredericnoel5794 No. The old caps were hollowed out and the new ones were put inside so the circuit would appear original.
